I have just downloaded AutoCAD Architecture 2014 and am finding the materials editor difficult as I am used to using the 2010 materials editor. Is there a way of changing the editor back to 2010 or is there a basic tutorial available on how to use the 2014 material editor?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Autocad Architecture and am attempting to use 3-D for the first time. The program opens and runs fine, and it allows me to create objects with no issue. However, when I try to apply materials to an object, the materials do not show up. The materials/textures tab is turned on, I can see the loaded materials, and the style is set to realistic. Even when I choose the material option "select objects with this material", it selects them as if the material is applied. The material does not show up either on screen or when rendered.

The adobe site video called "3D object and property editing" was no help in answering the following.
Does it have a procedural texture generator?
If so, then does it have some procedural texture presets?
Can you modify and save procedural texture presets?
If there are no procedural textures.
Then what are the materials, vectors graphics? bitmap?
Materials do not show-up in either Iray or Mental ray Compact Material Editor mode.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen working on materials in Slate's "View" panel it's easy to shift/drag to make a copy of a material component. However, that operation makes a copy, not an instance, and it does not provide a prompt when drag/copying as the Compact Material Editor does. Is there an intuitive method for instancing material components within the View panel in Slate? Sure, I can switch back to the Compact Editor, but it would be better/more efficient to stay in the same material editing work environment.
Regarding Shift/Dragging materials in Slate, there's another odd behavior I'm getting. If I press Control while in the View Panel, a plus sign shows up near the cursor, which I intuit to mean it is in "copy" mode. But, Control/Dragging a material component produces no visible effects (nothing happens). what that plus next to the cursor is indicating?
We've just started using an attribute in a dynamic block and I'm curious if there is a faster way to edit the text, like how you just click outside the dtext or mtext editor to save and exit. the editor.
We only need to edit the value field, not any of the other attritubes. I really like how the dynamic block is saving us some time, but the outdated editor is really irritating, and it's not always convenient to hit Tab then Enter on the keyboard.
Is there perhaps an alternate editor, or a way I can edit the value text in the mtext editor by default rather than opening up the Enhanced Attribute Editor?

I'm having difficulty placing a pattern type on my materials. When I select the pattern from the list that pops up and I click "OK," the pattern selector pops back up and won't let me exit. I think that if I go back to my original pattern, it will go away. I've tried restarting Revit and various other matierals in other projects on different types of families in both the surface and cut pattern prompts.How do I chage my patterns?

View 5 Replies View RelatedHow to make the name of a material show up in the Compact Material Editor? For instance, if I double-click on a standard material, and put it into the first material slot, the name stays "Default-01" instead of "Concrete_brown_stucco" (for instance).
This isn't a BIG deal but it's just one more thing to slow the workflow down !
Getting bizarre display in the Section Editor of the 3D Polylines that are in the drawing. The green line is the EG ground section.
In 2013, this same drawing displays normal, we don't see the 3D polylines in the Section Editor.

But in 2014 it is gone. Can not find it in the application options. How can I change it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI put a new material in the material editor. However long later, I save the max file and when I come back to it, the material editor does not have the material I previously created in there.
The get it back I have to 'eyedrop' the mesh to retrieve it.I've not seen this before in any version, and I use the compact material editor.
Is this another bug with this version, or is this a strange new feature added?
What have happened with the material editor(slate?) in 3ds max 2014, its takes years to render a material compared to render the same maps and material in 2013.
Problem does not stop there, quite often the whole 3dsmax dies to when it stucks on a material?
I am drawing water pumping stations for my company, and they are wanting to do a "Bill of Material" for each job. But they are wanting to do it through the block attribute system in autocad. This actually seems more time consuming than just counting the parts and inserting the new quantities in a table.
I am drawing these with 2 and sometimes 3 views.....the problem with that, I would draw 3 views of a valve (3 blocks), and It counts it as 3 different valves.
When I try to open the materials browser, a window opens that says "The AutoCAD Materials Library is not installed." Helpfile says it's included in the product. The texture maps search path in options is looking at the materials folder on the hard-drive. How do I load it without having to uninstall/reinstall autocad? Is the materials folder on my hard-drive no the materials library?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a student version of AutoCAD 2011. When I render, I can see the materials in the materials browser. However, when I try to attach them by layer, the images of the materials disappear. I only see black boxes. I also get a completely black image when it renders. There is no image at all even though I have lights and cameras on and in place. I read online that I might need to reinstall the materials library. I followed the instructions exactly and reinstalled it, all three sections. Still, I'm getting the same results when I try to render.

When i try to add materials to the "My Materials" library i get the following error :
Changes to the library cannot be made.
The library file is currently locked or missing.
I'm using autocad 2012 as an administrator and am the only ony using the library file on this computer.
Have just installed Revit 2014. Material editor will not open with icon (Manage>materials) or Type Props>Edit Assembly>Material. Additionanl Setings>Material Assests is greyed out. I have gone back to a project where I know the Asset Library is loaded as well as trying in one of the new sample files. Additionaly means I cant add or change any layers in Edit Assembly.

This crashing of ACA 2014 on start-up is getting old.
A few times we thought we had it fixed only to have it return with a vengeance.
Seems to crash after loading Project Navigator files. Error log attached.
I am currently running Building Design Suite Standard 2014. I have always used several of the tools on the express menu. Convert to mtext, arc aligned text, are 2 of the tools that are not working for me at this point.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen Autocad is started, it appears to be in a maximized window (it covers the entire screen and the windows maximize icon in the upper right corner shows maximized, but if I click on the top of the screen I can still drag the location of the Autocad window as though it was not maximized. Clicking the windows button to show in a window reduces the Autocad window as it should and re-clicking to maximize APPEARS to maximize Autocad, but it can still be dragged from the top of the screen.
This is not a windows problem, because all of my other programs (internet explorer, MS word, etc.) will maximize as they should.
I am running windows 7, 64 bit and Autocad 2014.

How do I configure dwg to pdf output to version 5, many customers do not have Reader 7 and have no intention of downloading the newer reader. I see no area in the Plot Configuration Editor??

how to get the annotative scale to work with schedule tags.When I use attributes in blocks I draw the attribute definition with a height that I wish it to display in PaperSpace. Then when defining the block I select the annotative scale so that the block and text display correctly in any viewport.
However when I create Scheduling Tags using the Create Tags button on the Annotate/Scheduling tab it shrinks the text by 1/8" as soon as the tag is created. I've made sure that the scales are set to 1:1 when I create it. I guess I can just enlarge the text 8 times before I make the Tag.
