I am drawing water pumping stations for my company, and they are wanting to do a "Bill of Material" for each job. But they are wanting to do it through the block attribute system in autocad. This actually seems more time consuming than just counting the parts and inserting the new quantities in a table.
I am drawing these with 2 and sometimes 3 views.....the problem with that, I would draw 3 views of a valve (3 blocks), and It counts it as 3 different valves.
I am using AutoCAD 2014. We were recently asked if there is a way to automatically update bill of materials if you change or add materials in a drawing. Bill of material is not necessarily in the same drawing? Do I need to create a table?
We normally just create a bill of material separately from the rest of the drawings in AutoCAD. They also want to be able to export it to exel
When i use the BOM feature, i get a list but cannot get panel sizes as dimensions in a table. I can get a part ID and other not so important in for for a BOM but dimensions and sizes should be key.
How can i get a detailed BOM to include panel sizes (like a cut list).
I am seeing this "varies" message on certain items in my BOM but can't tell where the incosistencies are. The strange thing is that my part number LCVINYL is showing the correct length of material while the Unit Quantity is showing "varies". Normally this would make me think that the inconsistency is in the name only. Where should I be looking to correct this?
BTW all of these LCVINYL parts were created in the frame generator if that matters.
I changed the names and locations of my parts in an assembly, opened the drawing, and found all of the parts and names. I then looked at the parts list on the assemblies in the drawings. Even though the assemblies updated, the part name did not update. How do I update the BOM to match the assembly (I thought it would do this automatically?)?
I have tube and pipe subassembly in my assembly. When I see my BOM, each route is a subassembly but some not, and went I add balloon on pipe from "this not subassembly but in realy is one" it give me the same item number for each pipe generate in this route.
How can change this "fake" part to assembly for BOM?
How & where I can add fields that I require for my equipment. I see I can add it to the bill of materials in the assembly but that doesn't carry through to the drawing.
I see that I can add to the parts list in the drawing but i don't want to have to add the information into my drawings every time I use one of my machines.
Basically I am busy creating a library of all the machines I use. This library will then be used for numerous drawing for many different clients. I need the required info to be in my drawing from the beginning without me having to add it to every clients drawing.
I have an iassembly with iparts in an .iam file and I went to make a shop drawing of this assembly. When I go to do this, I get my parts list showing all versions of the iparts, even the ones that are not used. It will show a 0 in quantity.
This is under the "structured" view and I do not see a "pars" tab, which is what I've read I need to look for.
I've read that I have to be very careful with the way that I create iassemblies and iparts, How to make a drawing with a BOM that only shows the parts currently in use.
I have a problem with Bill Of Materials in drawings.
I want to show a structured list of the top level components in this general arrangement. But whenever i select a view for inventor to create the table it only gives me to option for 'Components Only.'
I have edited the assembly and switched off the 'Components only' option in the IAM, but it still will only let me put a parts only BOM into the drawing. I have right clicked the node in the IDW browser and selected 'bill of materials' and here i have also switched off 'parts only' but still the same.
Im trying to generate a list of parts and assemblies that has all the quantities included in it.Ive found that if i use the structured view it does not multiply the part count by the number of assemblies, so if i export the bill of materials i wont get the actual number of parts that i require.
If i use the parts only list then it wont include the sub assemblies.the job that im working on has hundreds of sub assemblies and thousands of parts so manually adding them up is not an option.Using Inventor 2014 Pro.
I am using Autocad Architecture and am attempting to use 3-D for the first time. The program opens and runs fine, and it allows me to create objects with no issue. However, when I try to apply materials to an object, the materials do not show up. The materials/textures tab is turned on, I can see the loaded materials, and the style is set to realistic. Even when I choose the material option "select objects with this material", it selects them as if the material is applied. The material does not show up either on screen or when rendered.
When I try to open the materials browser, a window opens that says "The AutoCAD Materials Library is not installed." Helpfile says it's included in the product. The texture maps search path in options is looking at the materials folder on the hard-drive. How do I load it without having to uninstall/reinstall autocad? Is the materials folder on my hard-drive no the materials library?
I have a student version of AutoCAD 2011. When I render, I can see the materials in the materials browser. However, when I try to attach them by layer, the images of the materials disappear. I only see black boxes. I also get a completely black image when it renders. There is no image at all even though I have lights and cameras on and in place. I read online that I might need to reinstall the materials library. I followed the instructions exactly and reinstalled it, all three sections. Still, I'm getting the same results when I try to render.
How to get the all the materials back in the materials palette? When I switch to 3D Modeling and go into the Render Tab in the Materials section, I do not have any materials loaded.
I have just downloaded AutoCAD Architecture 2014 and am finding the materials editor difficult as I am used to using the 2010 materials editor. Is there a way of changing the editor back to 2010 or is there a basic tutorial available on how to use the 2014 material editor?
I'm working on creating some blocks for our office. Basically it is a simple block with a few lines that remain and then a couple attributes you can click on and change. I have added the attribute and all is working well.
My only issue is I would like to make the text in the attributes to be bold. For some reason I can't see to do this. Is it not possible.
Basically I want to try and get some of the attributes to stand out more than others. I tried changing the color and the lineweight of the attibute (which worked the color is different) but when it prints it doesn't change at all.
I have a client border that is attributed, however, when I open the attribute editor, some lines appear in red, while others are black. Turns out the font "FRACTION.SHX" is not on my system. So, I reset one of the problem attributes to a ROMANS. Saved, closed and reopened the drawing and still, the attribute editor displays them in red lettering, as if there is still something not right.
I've attached it. Note that drawing title texts seem fine, but "DRAWN DATE" and a few others are the ones showing up in red..
I have a drawing containing over 100 blocks with 8-10 attributes each. I want to align all the attribute text without rotating the associated blocks. I can select individual attributes by holding down the Ctrl key while I select each attribute. Then I can change the text angle in a pop-up dialog. Is there a quicker way to select all the attributes without having to click on each one? Remember that I do not want to rotate the whole block, just the attribute text.
I have a terminal from Phoenix Contact(their p/n 3031429) it's a 2 level terminal - sttb4. When I associate two terminals (one on the top points, and one for the bottom points), it ends up putting the wrong terminal number on the top line. It does not matter what order i click as "master terminal" or not. And When I am dealing with a PLC, I use multiple 2-highs and it is a pain to constantly go in and manually force it to switch. I will always have one terminal with the wire number(based on rung number) and one based off from a PLC address. Is there a way when associating these terminals it will alway look at the PLC address as the top point?
After working several hours on a drawing with many attribute blocks, all the text in all the attributes disappeared. Block outline remains as defined but text is gone. Have been using this version (Autocad 2012) about five months and this is the first episode. how can I get the blocks to appear as originally drawn?
I have a large amount of P&ID drawings that have blocks with attributes. One of the blocks is missing an attribute field that I need so I recreated the block using the same name and added the missing attribute. When I reinsert the block and say "yes" to updating the block's definition within one of my P&ID drawings everything seems fine except when I try to edit the block to fill in that field.
The newly added attribute doesn't show up but when I right click one of these blocks and select Block Editor the new attribute field does shows up so the redefine did work I just can't use that attribute. Is this a bug in AutoCAD? How I can use this attribute?
I have a ton of blocks with attributes. Sometimes when I insert them, AutoCAD (2011) prompts me in the command line (perfect). Other times, a prompt box appears to insert attribute definitions (annoying).
What setting do I have wrong, or am I setting the blocks up incorrectly?
i have been trying for an option called auto numbering of attributes. i have a drawing of floor plan in every room there are 5 to 6 switch boards.I have to give a code and numbers to switchboard like SB1, SB2.......SB42 etc. there are like some 150 switchboards, so i have made an attribute with code and number. problem is when ever i have to add or delete some switch boards some where in the middle. again i have to start renumbering my switch board attribute blocks again from starting. It is very time consuming. is there any command renumbering all attribute blocks in one command.
I have just added all my attributes to the main template, but the default for the attributes is four dashed lines ----
so if the attribute has data it puts it in, but if it does not it just uses these dashed lines and I cannot seem to remove them. I don't want to make them invisible and don't particularly want to have to use code, but I have never come across this before .
