How does the Cost parameter in materials work in Revit? I know you can set a value for a cost. But what amount of that material is the cost associated with? For example, if I set a cost 3.00 for Common Brick, is that 3.00/unit, 3.00/sq. ft., etc?
View 1 RepliesUsing Revit 2012 Architecture (64-bit) and Revit 2013 (full version, 64-bit) both gave the same problem.The problem is as follows.I have gotten a Revit file from my university and I need to make a schedule for two type of windows that consists of Family, Type, Count, Cost, and Total cost. This is not really a big deal, just add the parameters to a schedule, sort by family and type, uncheck "itemize every instance". Then create a calculated value called "total costs" with formula "cost" and type set to currency. Then in formatting go to the just created "total costs", check calculate totals and click ok.
Now there should be a schedule with the family, type, count, costs and total costs. But costs stays black and therefore total costs is 0,00.To my knowledge windows have a certain cost associated with them that comes from a database that has values for all structures in revit. So my guess is that database isn't there or for some reason it doesn't work.The file is 100% reliable, since my university supplied it to me and it works for others using the same version of Revit. Also this problem does not only occur with this file or just windows, the cost fields always stay blank. As mentioned the problem occurs on both Revit 2012 architecture (64-bit) and Revit 2013 (full version 64-bit).
When I try to open the material browser in Revit 2014, the screen opens. But suddenly Revit in totally doesn't work and it says 'Does not respond'When i try to close the material browser the whole program closes and my work is lost unsaved.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues getting a shared Volume parameter to work and report in a tag correctly. I can get the tag to report a value, but it is reporting the a value based on default values of the column (9*2*2) and not the value of the actual column (shown in the properites). Also, the tag I create reports a question mark, not the volume calculated. I've tried this a million times so it could be I have crossed up a parameter somewhere.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI created schedules inc. cost for Light fixtures, Lighting control etc. For each of the 3 schedules I was able to add the cost (based on the cost I put into the family). The problems I'm having are:
if i show the cost in the schedule view, it will show up on the sheet set. i just want to use if for cost estimating, but not show on the plans (i don't want to manually hide/un-hide all the time when i want to see the cost) - i could duplicate that schedule and hide the cos columns on the one i put on the sheet. but that seems archaic and doubles the number of schedules i don't see a way to combine the cost. Right now I only have 3 schedules and can add those up in my head, but like to automatically do that for many schedules. i know i could export to Excel.. but that takes away the whole "Revise instantly" idea and I want to be able to see right away what cost changes when I add or delete items.
I recently downloaded Revit 2013, and when I try to add materials, Revit crashes immediately.

I need to create a custom material appearance for the carpet and paint to show exactly what the room is going to look like with the clients finish selections. I know there was a way to create custome materials and assign them custom appearance jpg and/or png images in Revit Architecture 2010. Is there a way to do the same thing in 2012?

I think that it has something to do with the installation, and am wondering how to fix it. When I am editing the model, in the properties pallete I choose the browse button next to materials and this is what comes up:
How do I set up the materials so that they are available to choose from? I have no other materials issues with walls, etc.
When creating custom materials and utilizing them within your Revit project, are the image files embedded within the RVT file and thereby increasing file size? I was needing to know before we load down the project file (.rvt) with many custom materials. Hopefully it is just a pointer to a separate material file.

Does this bring the entire image file, and therefore it's size, into the Revit project file. Can this create a file size and performance issue when fully utilizing many custom material images? I'm having difficulty placing a pattern type on my materials. When I select the pattern from the list that pops up and I click "OK," the pattern selector pops back up and won't let me exit. View 1 Replies View RelatedThe attached DWG contains a big block with a visibility parameter which can make the red hatch invisible. This block also contains some dynamic blocks which have automatic attributes and it also contains one attribute (value = 7777).
There are some more blocks for testing in the drawing, some have a visibility parameter, some don't.
All attributes have the same name LAENGE.
Now use ATTEXT on all blocks with the attached template. You will get all attributes, but from the big red block you get only "7777".
Now open the block editor and remove the visibility parameter from the big red block and save it. Then use ATTEXT again - and now you will get all attributes from the dynamic blocks.
How can I get all attributes from blocks with visibility parameter?
(I am using ACAD LT 2010.)

The problem is than we cant assign materials to the solids, once that we had opened on Revit.
None instance material parameter exist in order to drive the material whit a family parameter, and assignin the material by category is not enought couse we had different components in the same category. sub category assigment is also imposible cause none Subcategory parameter is shown to assign the solid to on sub category created.

I want to make my windows so they are quick and easy to create new ones without having to add in new information like if the glass is tempered or if its an egress window. I would like to set up formulas for these. I am stuck at my egress window parameter. I have included an image of what I am working on and the calculations and formulas I have so far. I would like to have my egress check box to say yes if the Opening Width is greater then 20", the opening height is greater then 24" and the opening sf is greater then 5.7 Sf. How would I set this parameter up?

I have succesfully changed the direction of the beam system under the floor, but cannot change the direction of the floor panel. I have tried the folllowing:
1) Going into sketch mode and changing the beam support direction.
2) Changing the pattern in the materials fsettings from horizontal to vertical.
Is there a way to get the default wall/roof/floor materials to appear transparent?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is the first time I experience a major problem with Revit 2012. I created a duplicate of an 8" concrete masonry wall for my student project. Then I selected the Edit option in the Structure to change the rendered material to concrete masonry. Suddenly the program freezes and crashes. A window pops up stating that Windows has detected a problem with Revit and must shut the program down. I've everything since my last save. As of now, I recreated a duplicate of the masonry wall I need and started drawing some of the walls for my project but I'm afraid to experiment with other materials. Background Information about my computer: I downloadeda free version of Revit 2012 student software to practice at home. I have Windows 7 64-bit, 6GB of Ram and Intel (R) Core i7 2.20GHz...(I checked all the software requirements before downloading the correct version of Revit 2012)
Do I have to uninstall the program and reinstall it again? Would the problem go away?
How I can get the finished floor material from the floor in the room tag? The only way I know is to manually write material via Change Parameter Values in the tag.
