Revit :: Light Fixtures - Controlling Visibility Graphics

Jun 12, 2013

I am trying to figure out why the light fixtures are giving me these thick heavy black lines.  The same fixtures in the arch floor plan are close to what I want (see arch1).  However in mech1.jpg there isnt a way I can find to make the lights more like arch1.jpg.  I dont want to use an architectural view template on a mechanical plan, which seems to be my only temporary solution.  This is not an issue of Thin Lines (TL) setting and I have tried object styles and VG, although I must not be looking in the right area. How I can control this?

Revit :: Unable To Create Arrays Of Ceiling Light Fixtures

Having trouble creating arrays of ceiling light fixtures in Revit 2013? It gives me this error message;

'Can't place inserts outside of hosts. These elements won't be copied'

I've adjusted all manner of settings to make sure the copies don't fall outside the limits of the host ceiling but without success. It only occurs with linear arrays on ceilings not radial arrays for ceilings or linear or radial arrays for walls?

Revit :: No Tag Loaded For Lighting Fixtures

Am just starting to explore Revit and was trying to add some lights to my building to play with some renders.  When I try and load anything from within the 'lighting fixtures' however, I am met with the message:

"There is no tag loaded for lighting fixtures, do you want to load one now?"

I have explored a number of other family types, walls, doors, windows, kitchen and bathroom etc and never had this message/error occur.

Revit :: Visibility Graphics / FilterRule Cannot Make It Work

Jun 14, 2012

When I try to create a filter, I cannot get the Filter Rule to work.  Under Filter by there is an option to select More Parameters  which then directs you to Project parameters.  When I select a parameter, it does not show up in the 'Filter by' box so I can create the rule.  I have used this feature in 2011, but I cannot seem to make it work in 2012.

AutoCad 2D :: Controlling Visibility Of MLEADER Frames

Mar 21, 2013

Working in 2012 (but saving to 2007 DWG format), I created an MLEADER text box with a frame and background masking on. Everything seemed to be OK onscreen in 2012. But when we opened the drawing in 2008, the frames did not show on screen or in the plot. Is there a simple way to fix this, e.g., via a system variable?

I’m attaching a test drawing containing an example of said MLEADER. While not new, this is a new technique for us. BTW, the masking part seems to work, though it does not perfectly match the frame.

Revit :: Walls Hiding Fixtures When Plan Printed

Oct 9, 2013

I have some Plumbing "Fixtures" that aren't showing up when the plan is printed. In the view they are visible, but in the print they disappear as if to be covered up by the wall. Unless the "Fixture" is slightly outside of the wall then it will show up. What could be causing this? The fixtures that we're using are simply model lines that form a circle since they're only there to hold a place in a schedule for its info.

So as you can see the dots are visible but when I go to print they disappear...

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 - Controlling Weld Visibility In IAssemblies

Nov 30, 2012

I have made a family of weldments.  I am having trouble controlling the visibility of the weld symbols when I place one of these members. On some members the welds are shown and on others they are not.  I know that I can turn off all the welds (View>Object Visibility> Weld Symbols) but there are other weld symbols in the assembly that I need/want to leave visible. In the image below all three weldments have the same welds, but the weld symbol of only the one is shown when I place it in an iam.

In each member of the iassembly, I have unchecked the visibility under the Welds node, but some are still visible when i place them, so that must not be controlling it. Sure would be good if visibility of welds were controlled by view representation.

Revit :: Controlling Contour Lines

Feb 28, 2013

I have a small residential project with corner lot sloping up diagonally from the intersection. The client wants to raise 'usable' surface of the site by introducing terracing - 3 retaining walls 3' high and 3' apart.

All is interrupted by a driveway and series of steps leading to the main level. I'm trying to modify existing surface, but the topo seems to have 'life of it's own' . I've tried to Split some surfaces to make life easier. That worked to some extent. How to make the topography cooperate? Is there a way to 'turn off' triangulation? ( not the visibility ) . I'm certain the contours I'm creating can be built, but Revit is 'changing' them to something else. Some points that I place are simply ignored.

Revit :: Controlling Linked Layers

Using Revit 2014, I link in a dwg file.  I open a view and using V/G overides for Imported Categories, I turn off the Acad layers I don't want to see.  Then the next time my dwg file is updated, the V/G will remain the same and I won't have to reset the layer views. Now I duplicate this view for additional views I need in my project.  But I need to apply a different View Template to each view.  This destroys the original V/G settings that I had set up for the dwg file.Is there a way to set up my linked file so that it retains the layer on/off settings through each update and lock it.  Then I can apply different View Templates to introduce other characteristics without altering the desired layer settings.

Revit :: Controlling Visual Styles Through Linked Files?

Feb 24, 2012

I am trying to control the visibility or visual style of the model but through the linked arch file. Everything is wireframe or simple black and white lines and I can see all my devices and equipment for the entire length of the building when I only want to see the devices in the room or where the camera is.  It seems when I switch to hidden only my devices change no the linked arch model nor do any of my devices on the other side of the wall go away.  I am sure for some the answer is simple but it is escaping me entirely.  where I can better control the visual styles in my views of not just my own stuff but the other disciplines as well.  Do I have to do anything to the linked files?  Going through the Visibility Graphics Links tab doesnt seem to work either.

Revit :: Visibility By Level In 3D View?

Mar 9, 2012

Is there a way to set the visibility of elements in a 3D view according to the Level they are associated with?

The VG tab which opens the filter dialog provides a check box for the "Levels" category, and the relevant parameters are made available.

But I can not seem to create a filter rule which evaluates any of those parameters (name, elevation, etc...) to then isolate the visibility of those elements in the 3D view that either meet, or do not meet the criteria. Nothing seems to work.

To achieve a "similar" effect in a 3D view, I can use a Section Box, but that is a very clunky and imprecise way.I can also create a Shared Parameter for "Level" and perhaps filter successfully that way, but that seems redundant with the Levels intelligence already established.

Revit :: Roof Visibility For Underlay

Jul 18, 2011

I've attached a couple images of a visibility problem I'm having. The ROOF image shows the underlay view I'm using in the NO ROOF view in my revit project. I modeled all four of the dormer roofs the same, in place roof components, and they show up in the roof plan, but not when I use the roof plan as an underlay for my framing plan.

They don't show up when I toggle on the hidden elements tool either. I checked to make sure I didn't have coarse scale visibility turned off as well as if I had not visible in plan unchecked. These things seem fine, plus, as you can see, it shows up in it's own view. View range seems to be fine too. I can't figure out why these elements don't show up.

Revit :: Family Creation Visibility

Dec 13, 2012

I know I must just be missing this somewhere, but I would like to shut off the geometry inside a family that's associated with a specific parameter.  This is while I'm editing the family.

Specifically, the family I'm creating is for an appliance that has the option of an arched, or rectangular opening.  Once I associate the geometry for the arched opening with a parameter, I'd like to shut that off, so that I can create the rectangular opening.  Similar to how the family behaves once it's brought into a project.

Right now, I'm just kind of using the temporary hide functionality to shut them off, but if I turn them on, then have to go back to make edits, I have to select the individual geometry all over again to hide it.  I've also noticed that some geometry, even when hidden, can still be selected.

Revit :: Light On Sloped Ceiling

Dec 31, 2012

I read a 2009/10 thread, "Rotating lighting", describing how to work around the problem of family lighting fixture members not rotating. I would hope there is a better solution today.

I simply want to place a lighting fixture - std 2x4 flourescent, on a 7 deg sloped ceiling. The axis of rotation is the long run of the light fixture. Is this not possible in Revit 2013?

Or, do I have to dredge up the work around from 3 releases ago and attempt to discern how to make it work?

It seems like I should just be able to set the family to use a work plane-based assignment and then place it with the correct work plane active. That is not happening. The light fixture doesn't want to rotate the 7 degrees to align with the work plane.

Revit :: Visibility Of Topographic Surface Edges

May 20, 2013

In Revit LT 2014, I've tried unsuccessfully to override the color of topographic surface edges in my model to white, so the edges don't show up in plan views.  I've tried through the Object Styles menu, Override Graphics In View By Element, and Override Objects In View By Category, but nothing has worked.  These overrides have worked for me in the past in previous Revit Arch versions, so I don't know if LT just doesn't have that capability, or it's a bug.

I can't simply extend the topo surface past the view window edges (I only want to show contour lines on my site, since they've been surveyed, but the neighboring site has not been surveyed, so I don't want to guess at them).  I really just want to hide the toposuface boundary edge.

Change the size of the text to match, easy enough. Now I want to place the text along the open door in the floor plan view, but the tag always jumps to the center of the door frame. Can this be modified to do as I want? is there an alignment parameter I can alter? Perhaps tagging the  door family and aligning it in the family editor? Does Revit is capable of doing this. Until then, I have to place the text for each individual door.
