View 4 RepliesI have the following function that opens the File "Save As" dialog box. It gets fed a drawing number and allows the users to browse to a folder where they want to save it. The problem is when a file already exists with the same name. A message box pops up letting the user know that the file already exists and do they want to overwrite it. The can pick yes to overwrite, but it doesn't really overwrite the old file, it seems like it opens it and then crashes when the rest of the program tries to run.
What I want to do is create a loop to determine if the file already exists. If it does not exist, then save the path and drawing name as usual.
If the drawing exists, I want to pop up a dialog giving two options; Overwrite, or Rename the current drawing. If they pick Overwrite, I can have the program delete the old existing drawing and then just save this one. If they pick Rename it will loop back to the "Save As" dialog giving the user the ability to change their drawing name (like add a "-1" to it.
Public Function GetFilePathAndName(ByVal dwgNumber) podDWG = ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument podDB = podDWG.Database podEd = podDWG.Editor podPSO.InitialDirectory = "W:Work_in_Process" podPSO.InitialFileName = dwgNumber podPSO.Filter = "AutoCAD DWG Files|*.dwg" podPFR = podEd.GetFileNameForSave(podPSO) Select Case podPFR.Status Case EditorInput.PromptStatus.OK SaveDwgName = podPFR.StringResult Case EditorInput.PromptStatus.Cancel MsgBox("User Cancelled.") End Select Return SaveDwgName End Function
how to modify the options in the save dialog?Every time I save a file and have to choose the file type, I have to scroll through obscure and obsolete file types. Sure, I might need someday to save Scitex CT, or Photoshop DCS, but the chances are very slim. Some people surely use PIXAR and TARGA, but I don't. What the hell is an IFF? If I ever need a Portable Bit Map (really?) file it would be great if I could find it in a user defineable option pull down. I can pretty well guarantee that the file types I need are PSD, TIFF, JPEG, PDF, PNG and once in a blue moon, GIF.

How can I set Inventor's Default to "144-Trimmed" so I never have to mess with it again?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a large infrastructure project with numerous of drawings. On quite a few layout drawings I need to have the same base set of references, however I need to change the layer settings (colors, lineweight etc.). This cannot be done in the base reference itself as it is used by others. As the layouts I work with includes other references as well, it is time consuming to filter and change layer settings on each base reference.
My concept is to have a master reference file to manage all layer settings and add/remove base references. When the master reference is referenced into the layout, all layer settings on the base references should stay as set in the master reference. In this way I can easily control all base references with one file and make sure all changes will be the same for all the layouts.
New illustration of concept:
When I am setting the plot sheets I have to switch off Sections and section boxes, Ref planes, window tags, door tags or planting, objects that or not required in views. I seam to do this quite a lot.
Is there a way to set the state drawing so that at the things you want switched off are or if needed go back to how it was before.
I have a small residential project with corner lot sloping up diagonally from the intersection. The client wants to raise 'usable' surface of the site by introducing terracing - 3 retaining walls 3' high and 3' apart.
All is interrupted by a driveway and series of steps leading to the main level. I'm trying to modify existing surface, but the topo seems to have 'life of it's own' . I've tried to Split some surfaces to make life easier. That worked to some extent. How to make the topography cooperate? Is there a way to 'turn off' triangulation? ( not the visibility ) . I'm certain the contours I'm creating can be built, but Revit is 'changing' them to something else. Some points that I place are simply ignored.
Using Revit 2014, I link in a dwg file. I open a view and using V/G overides for Imported Categories, I turn off the Acad layers I don't want to see. Then the next time my dwg file is updated, the V/G will remain the same and I won't have to reset the layer views. Now I duplicate this view for additional views I need in my project. But I need to apply a different View Template to each view. This destroys the original V/G settings that I had set up for the dwg file.Is there a way to set up my linked file so that it retains the layer on/off settings through each update and lock it. Then I can apply different View Templates to introduce other characteristics without altering the desired layer settings.

However in mech1.jpg there isnt a way I can find to make the lights more like arch1.jpg. I dont want to use an architectural view template on a mechanical plan, which seems to be my only temporary solution. This is not an issue of Thin Lines (TL) setting and I have tried object styles and VG, although I must not be looking in the right area. How I can control this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to control the visibility or visual style of the model but through the linked arch file. Everything is wireframe or simple black and white lines and I can see all my devices and equipment for the entire length of the building when I only want to see the devices in the room or where the camera is. It seems when I switch to hidden only my devices change no the linked arch model nor do any of my devices on the other side of the wall go away. I am sure for some the answer is simple but it is escaping me entirely. where I can better control the visual styles in my views of not just my own stuff but the other disciplines as well. Do I have to do anything to the linked files? Going through the Visibility Graphics Links tab doesnt seem to work either.

I have looked through the discussion site and done everything suggested -- Adobe is up-to-date, as is my graphics card; I have changed the "Drawing Mode" from Basic to Normal to Advanced. I am facing problem while using Save / Save As / Save for web options in my Photoshop. On clicking Save / Save As commands, my photoshop gets closed abruptly and I am losing all data. If I choose Save for Web option, the file Save dialog box appears and when I click on the 'Save' button, the application gets closed abruptly.
It was working fine yesterday. My version is bundled in the Technical Communicator suite 3.5 and I faced some problems with Adobe Acrobat, for which my IT team took support from Adobe and got it resolved just two days ago. (Case ID - 184809966)
when I open my revit file, I got the following information.
once I close the up diagram, revit diliver the next message.
So I just saved my project and closed it. It created a .001 version of the file but there is no non 00X file. Is there a way to recover my work or did Autodesk just waist yet anouther hour of my life.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing autocad LT 2008. I am working in the constriction field. Usually I receive a drawing from the architect , than I need to create my version of his drawing , meaning I need to emphasis the important construction geometry. AutoCAD speaking, im using the CTB file to control this color request
1. I set all 255 pans to gray (architect plane fade out)
2. I set random color to blue (emphasizing my geometry)
When I view a file in CS5, the colors are vastly different than when I view the same file from any other program on my computer. My issue is that all of a sudden my view control bar is located so far to the left in the view window, the project browser almost covers it. I know that I can move the project browser window so that isn't all that critical. My concern is that when I want to look at a schedule it also is so far to the left of the screen I have to move the other windows to see it.

I now want to have a variation with the door opening inwards (same frame etc) and if I was doing it with Autocad 2D would do so by having a flip grip and selecting only the frame, door panel, swing etc to flip about a certain centreline.
This doesn't seem possible in Revit, flipping seems to all or nothing?
How do you control texture mapping. Review the attached PDF for illustration on this problem.
My goal is to predictable create geometry in Revit that when a material is mapped to it the desired result will be achieved. My industry has a lot of objects created out of veneered wood, and solid wood forms. Revit is not giving me the texture mapping I am looking for.
We have numerous families to create, but the ugliness of the UVW mapping .......
Is there a way to control topography triangulation in Revit 2013? I did number of surfaces in Civil 3D and when I brought them as a contour lines in Revit I got not very correct surface.
I wonder how Revit could deal with complicated grading if even simple one is wrong.
I added some polylines for site but it didn't work. Revit tends to smooth, smooth too much I would say. It gave up only when I added extra points within footprint.
I'm facing a problem dealing with visibility formulas... My situation that im dealing with is, I have 2 yes/no visibility parameters, one that is called Right side clearance and another one named Left side clearance. I want to create another yes/no visibility parameter that's called Clearance. I want to link the Right and Left clearance parameter to the Clearance parameter where if it is off, then there will be nothing that shows.. But if I want it on then I would have to select either right or left without them both showing up?
