Revit :: Determining Angle From Project North To True North?
Apr 23, 2013
I have a text file of several surveyed ponts throughout my model. I can select one of these points in my model and specify the coordinates of East/West, North/South, and elevation from this file, but how do I determine the angle from project north to true north from these surveyed points?

I have a drawing which crashes out of Revit 2013 SP2 as soon as I want to Rotate to True North. In fact if I use any tool under the Manage -> Location area.
I had a closer look at the drawing and I cant find the Survey and Project Base points.I assume this is related.
I turned on their visibility in Visual Graphics. I tried turning them on by using the Reveal Hidden Objects. Typed ZA and I then selected all the info ( Crop View off ) and looked at the filter. No Survey or Base Points. I also tried setting the View Range very large but I still cannot see these Points.
I know these points have been hard coded into the RVT files and I tried deleting them from another drawing as a test but couldn't.
Is there any way I can find them quickly? or getting them back?
I have cleaned up the drawing and I can upload the drawing (27MB )?

I have been able to publish information to Google Earth without problems, but when I change the Orientation of True North in the project, the results in Google still have the project north as North.

I created a project with multiple linked Revit files in it and I'd like to rotate the models in their own files to be "North/South". I understand choosing between True North and Project North, but I can't tell which I'm supposed to rotate because when I rotate the actual model and bring it into the host file, it's not accurate. Am I to bring it in to the host and then rotate and move it into position and then publish the coordinates? I have tried that, but then when I go back to the linked file and import a AutoCAD background drawing by it's origin's, it doesn't line up.
Is there a tutorial online somewhere that describes the process for rotating a linked project file in its own file to be North/South and then import it to the host file and establish (publish) coordinates so everything works? Do I just need to re-export to AutoCAD to modify the origin point for the DWG file?

I am making use of some of the building models created using CAD. Since the models are added to virtual earth, I would like to get clarified for few of my doubts,
1) say, when the buildings of true representation on ground is made, whether any reference axis with respect to ground is considered to build the model?
2) How the scaling is made for the same model with respect to ground?

I have an autocad drawing that has a building floor plan.
I need to "rotate the building 90 degrees" or "rotate the USC 90 degrees" in order to line the building up to TRUE project north (architect has a Revit model oriented to true north that I need to match when we combine our files in Navisworks)
I have tried DVIEW > Twist.. which I thought was it, it rotated my drawing, but the USC rotated with it. I tried the USCFOLLOW with no luck.
Also tried going into UNITS > DIRECTION and tried VP with no luck.
I understand that I can just select the entire floor plan and manually rotate it BUT, the building is not easy "shape" to work with, so it is next to impossible finding the "center" of my drawing to rotate it (I need this to be brough into Navisworks WITHOUT rotating the file again)
You would think this would be very simple to do and take 30 seconds. I have googled everything with no luck. I just need to change my True north
- doing this in modelspace
- needs to be align with a Revit model already oreinted to true north
- just need to rotate the drawing OR UCS 90 degrees, but can't find the "center" of the drawing

If I want North (top) to be my Zero Degrees point (rather than east - to the right) then I go into FORMAT / UNITS which takes me to DRAWING UNITS..I then have a button called DIRECTION...Here is says:
East 0
North 90
West 180
South 270
Other pick/type
Now logic tells me that currently East (to the right) is currently set to 0 degrees (which it is)And that clicking North, should then make North (up) Zero degrees.
I click North, the button shows North has been selected, but none of the values change, and East is still zero degrees. From what I found on these forums, doing this should set North to zero, but it makes no difference.

How to get them back?

I am currently working on a project and i created a land plot and set each level line to the proper elevation but not all of the level lines appear in every view. In the North view all of the level lines and the walls i have created appear, but the walls don't show up in any of the other views. Also the North, West, and South views show all of the level lines but the East view does not.

Want to know if there is a better way to have multiple north points in a drawing with out having them on their own layer
I produce drawing along the length of a road so use viewports to cover the length so when the viewports overlap I have a cut line and this often means at the end of one viewport you see the next viewports north point.
Currently I have the north point block drawn on its own layer then I end up creating 2 or 3 move layers to put the blocks on so I can freeze the new layers in different viewports hiding then from the previous if that makes sense.

In some templates I can't load a custom North arrow. AutoCAD can't find block.
The built-in north Arrows works fine. In a standard template from Autodesk there is no problem.
Wich settings should I change so I can select a block?

The building plan has been drawn according to North, etc. When I try and draw a rectangle, for example, the rectangle is angled according to North and not vertical and horizontal in the MS.
How do I turn this off. I tried changing VPORT to 0,0 and it rotated the whole drawing with North at the top.

I'm having trouble creating a map book where north is rotated in the view. I've tried using ucsfollow, and the ucs command to rotate the map correctly, but when I try to create the map book the map doesn't show up in the main viewport.
How to rotate the map when creating a map book?

North arrow is a block and tried with base point and alignment parameters, unless i have missed something in the block creation? How do i create a north arrow block that will align with the layouts in plan production?

I made a model of a small house and I've been trying to figure out how to render it in the best way possible,
I got some good results messing around with the sun location settings.
I've set the location using an google earth file and the house is facing direct east.
when I make a render from the south side with date something like 04-04-2012 at 12:00.
its pretty cool(still a bit dark ish), but if I render from the north the walls are just black.
I've but a simple light bulb in side to see if that would reflect some how but thats no good.
p.s. render time was for each image was about 5m.

I'm using C3D 2014.
When I create layouts using the "All layouts in the current drawing" option, the north arrow does not align to the viewport rotation.
But when I use "Number of layouts..." and "All layouts in one..." options, the north arrow block aligns correctly.

I am using the Dynamic North arrow that is linked to the viewport. It doesn't matter if I use an OOTB block or a custom one they all have a rotation of 355.4016.
The viewport is type "Plan", Dview twist is set to "0", USC is World. If I change the rotation on the block it rotates the viewport (as expected). The default block is not rotated.
BTW, It works fin in the default NCS, so it's something in my template.

I am making a template file having title block with fields. I use this template for creating layouts and sheets using Sheet Set Manager and the fields will be updated from the data of SSM. Now i would like to add a dynamic north block to my template. The block could be rotated (i have this block in file itself) and rotation angle could be inserted. Now how can i add a custom field to SSM so that i could set a rotation angle for the project and thus every new layout or sheet created using the template has the north block rotated with the angle mentioned in SSM.
Here is the file...........
