Revit :: Create Light Fixture With A Head That Rotate In Two Axis
Nov 16, 2011I am trying to create a light fixture with a head that can rotate in two axis so that the light can aim up or down and left or right.
I have been unable to create a light fixture that can rotate up and down as shown in the Revit help files.
Here is a resume of my two attempts at creating this and the reasons why they failed:
Embedded family solution: The embedded family will not rotate vertically even as a face based fixture hosted on a line reference. If you rotate the line reference in the horizontal axis, the hosted embedded fixture ignores the rotation and does not follow.
Unique family solution: The light source will not move even if it is locked to a reference line, it evokes an error.

Is there a way for the same label to flip along the main horizontal reference plane of a section tag?
We do not use the traditional circle head and when the head needs to rotate or flip the 'pointer' lands on top of the label.
I think I have exhausted all combinations of checked/unchecked boxes for 'Keep readable' and such.

Feb 18, 2011I've been working with Inventor 2011 - Pro and have not had any success with utilizing a bolted connection (blind hole) in an FEA stress analysis. I have reviewed and one suggestion involved a using a bolt placed "as custom" instead of "as standard". It appears however that there is a default setting that I currently have which doesn't allow this as a selection.

Nov 22, 2013I just spent thousands of dollars on a new cintiq 22hd touch and now people are telling me that touch zoom and rotate are not supported in photoshop when running it with a windows platform (only works with MACS)???!!! are you serious???!!! I just tested this out and its TRUE!!! You can pan with touch but not zoom or rotate. The zoom and rotate functions work in all my other programs BUT NOT PHOTOSHOP. I even have the latest version of photoshop (CC), latest patch and all and nope! no multitouch support!
I dont know who im more pissed with WACOM or ADOBE. Wacom's touch advertising was supposed to be their selling point! if you cant even use it with the most popular graphics program...err what's the point?And Adobe should have provided support like what...AGES AGO...the touch tablets and cintiqs have been out for almost a year now!

After installing 2013, the %ReportDir% variable for 2011 is pointing to the 2013 install, where the reports have NOT been customized. So when you run a report in 2011, it is using the XSL files in the 2013 location.
So the long and the short of it is the 2013 install broke our 2011 custom reporting ability.how to control the %ReportDir% variable in 2011?

May 23, 2012Working in a assembly and just edited an existing note in the Engineering notebook. Clicked the "X" to close the assembly.... what? no prompt to save the file?
Just checked adding a note to a ipt and it doesn't dirty the file either, so if you only add a new engineering note, you have to save it, cause it won't prompt you before closing.

Oct 27, 2011In my part, there was already an existing Engineering note.
I wanted to add another note. I added my new note, but it does not show up in the browser. I can right click on the note note > Display note and both notes are shown in the engineering notebook. When I exit out of the notebook and go back to Inventor, still not there. Here is a short video of what I am seeing.
[URL]. The "Rev B" noteis the original one and Note 2 is the one that I just added.
Now I if I add another note, then all of them will show up in the browser. This is not the first time that I have seen this, but just thought I would bring this up.
This part was just made with a copy design from Vault. What is weird, is that if I go to the part that this was copied from and add the note, it shows up correctly then. Its like something is getting hosed in the copy design process.

1. If I user ColorIndex the colors are transfered from RGB => Color Index 0-255 giving slightly incorrect colors, this is what I use and have a VBA match the colors in AutoCAd, but unfortunatley I have a family where some objects are "correct" colors, but some object in the family just get wierd color and whatever I do I just can't get all of them to have the same. This uses the layers and properties file to define some colors.
2. If I use TrueColors in the export only the objects that have true colors set in the override, everything else is white. This does not as far as I can tell use the layers and properties file to define colors not set in the view manually.
I would like to have the Exported DWG use the same TrueColors as in the drawing with in the Revit Drawing, but apparently it is not possible.

Mar 13, 2013I'm trying to migrate from AutoCAD into Inventor while maintaining my companies standards - and I need to change the way section marks show.
Is there a way to create a custom section mark routine (in AutoCAD it was a LISP routine) to make section marks as shown in the attached picture?
In the AutoCAD version, it took 3 clicks, and then prompted for text inputs - 1st was the end of the line with the circle, 2nd was the other end of the line, and 3rd was the direction of the section. Then there are 2 text prompts - first the section label, then the sheet humber.
Is this possible to do in Inventor? I figured out how to make the circles with prompted text but can't figure out how to make the lines and arrows to go with it without being fixed length and position.
