Photoshop :: Modified Duplicated Layer But Orig. Also Changed
Aug 18, 2005
i duplicated a layer, and made the original layer invisible. i cropped the duplicated layer, and it's weird, the original layer also gets cropped. why is this isso? the duplicated layer is the one active, any ideas?i know this isn't supposed to happen, right?
I am learning to make an envelope and the tut calls for me to make little sewed rectangles around the edges which are to be colored red and blue every other rectangle.  Draw the Rectangle > Ctrl + T > Right click > Skew > and then  Ctrl + Alt + T to Duplicate > press right arrow key to move and repeat until the end of the envelope > and then  Duplicate Layer > change color from blue to red  Here is where I am lost:  I am suppose to select every other rectangle and delete them in order for the rectangles to be blue, red, blue red . How to go about doing this and I have been unable to find a solution in faq's or other posts within the forum(s). I'm not even certain how to ask the question so, that may be part of my quest denied  In Inkscape I would just ungroup them so that I could manipulate/delete them as individual shapes and then (if needed) use the rubber band to recollect them and click a regroup button. I cannot seem to find anything similar to this in PS.
I'm trying to paint over a picture but I'm painting over it with no opacity (which means yes, I'm painting over the picture invisibly) because I want to be able to see what I'm painting and the paint would block out some parts or "shadows" and contrasts of the image that I might've missed. So the problem here was how bothersome it was getting to constantly switch the opacity bar from 0% to 100% (I need to also see where I'm painting and check over any mistakes). So I thought I could just duplicated the painted layer so I would only have to click the duplicated layer instead of using the opacity bar to switch. But the duplicated layer is only left off to when it was first duplicated. It doesn't show the recent parts that I painted over. I remember taking Computer Graphics once and the teacher mentioning something about duplicating a layer and having that duplicated layer constantly updated to match the original layer (from every mark that is placed on the original layer).
So basically how would I make a duplicated layer update to its original layer every second?
It's a common practice when building layers to duplicate existing layers as a start. Additionally, it is good practice that layer names be meaningful.
Suppose I start with the following layer: layer 1
If I duplicate that layer, it seems reasonable I'd get: layer 2. Instead I get: layer 1 copy
Then if I duplicate again I get: layer 1 copy#1, even though this is copy #2.
I propose the following: An option be available whereby user is queried for name of any layer which is to be generated. This is easier than having to edit automatically generated layer names. If automatic layer names are to be generated, code first checks if previous layer name ends in a sequence of digits. If yes, then these digits are incremented as an integer until a unique layer name is generatedIf the layer name does not end in a sequence of digits, then "#1" is appended to the layer name, and the "1" incremented until a unique name is generated.
So with this algorithm:layer 1 would become layer 2 for a first copy, then layer 3 for a second copy, etc.background would become background#2 for a first copy, then background#3 for a second copy, etc.
The problem with using "copy" in the layer name is that it is probably only in the substantial minority of cases that the newly generated layer is destined to be a true copy, so the automatically generated layer name is very likely inappropriate. Better is to use a simpler, shorter name which applies in a greater fraction of the applications.
I placed an element in the bigger picture, then I tweaked it, distorted it, used perspective etc. etc. Now I've decided to alter the original of that element and I want to place it in the bigger picture again. And i really want to use all the transformations that I used the first time. Is there a way to capture the transformations and apply them to the replaced element?
it's all image, pixels, no text, paths or even layers in this element I'm placing.
After making several adjustment layers, the layer merge is performed. However, it is observed that the colour changed after layer merging. It is confirmed with the histogram. This phenomenon also happens in layer flatten.
I want to put type on a perfect circular path. But first I need to stretch the type so it is longer vertically.Stretching type and using it as normal is easy. But how in the world do I use the stretched type on a path?
I recently upgraded my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 installing a new hard disk in the process.  Before starting I used PSE 6 to backup the catalogue.  I installed Windows 7 on the new disk and copied all my data files (including pictures) from the old HDD.  I then restored the catalog on the new drive after installing PSE 11.  All seemed fine, so I carried on working on my pictures.  Now some weeks later I notices that the restore created duplicates of ALL my pictures, so for example, as well as _MG_0876.CR2, there is also a copy of it called _MG_0876-1.CR2 which is the one that is actually in the catalogue.  This seems really silly at best. If I restore the catalog, the restore should ASK what to do about duplicates, not just create thousands of duplicate files willy-nilly.  The ONLY easy solution to this mess I could find was to delete the entire fiolder structure and restore the backup again, which has resulted in my loosing at least two weeks worth of work in the form of image editing. Going through and manually deleting files in Windows Explorer just wasn't an option.  The manual doesn't mention that this will happen at all.  1. What is the recommended procedure?  2. Why isn't this described in the manual?  3. Why doesn't the restore ASK what to do with duplicates?
I recently had my computer reformatted and notice that following Photoshop Elements reinstall and catalog restore all my photos have been duplicated in the Adobe/digital photos folder. I have read that this is due to my computer tech restoring all photos in the original folder structure prior to me executing the catalog restore (I should have done my research first). My question is what can I do now to eliminate the duplicates? Do I delete all photos and the Adobe folders or is there an alternative?
Can an item of 1 Bit depth have layers which can be copied or duplicated. My 1 Bit item is partially locked and the layer menu does not permit any operations.
I've been making a video with about 400 photos on it and am using various transitions.
What I can't work out what to do is how can I edit a transition then save or copy that edited version of the transition off somewhere so I can use it multiple times? It seems I get the 'base' transition, can add it to the timeline then have to edit each and every transition - it takes hours!
All of my 20,000 images in LR 4.3 were suddenly duplicated. All the adjustments, ratings, just as if I had selected all and clicked "Create virtual Copy". Is there a way to eliminate duplicate images or undo this mystriuos process? In checking, the second image is a copy of the JPEG image which I exposrted to another location. How can I handle these to somehow get rid of them or do they really not do anything except clutter up the content?
After upgrading to 3.6 I noticed that LR is creating duplicated folders if the name contains international characters, but only in the database -Â in the file system there is still only one folder. Â In this case I had an existing folder "Ã¥re". I dragged some photos into it, but instead of them being added to the existing one, another folder with the same name showed up. It is impossible to move photos between the two "Ã¥re", as there is only one folder on disk and LR detects that the file is already there..
I have started getting duplicate geometry in my dynamic blocks. I have a strech feature in a block and it works fine. I go in block editor and make a change, and save it. I then see duplicate geometry, in the old position, and in the new. I erase the block and re0insert it. I still have the double geometry. I open the block in block editor again, and all od the geometry seems to be copied (double geometry).
In Civil 3D we can create several new sample line groups and their sample lines can have the same name in other sample line groups.e.g
SLG_1: Â Â
Sample line names:
1 2 3 4
SLG_2: Â Â
Sample line names:
1 2 3 4
However, If I create a new sample line group with API and after new sample lines, if other sample line name(of other SLG) has the same name, Civil 3D throws Exception.
My staff is starting to get the following fatal error when opening AutoCAD ACA 2010:
FATAL ERROR: Duplicated Service Name: SERVICE_VBA
We think taht this is happening after oening a session of AutoDesk Impression and then closing the Impression session and starting AutoCAD. We have corrected this by deleting the username directory under the C:documents & Settings directory.Â
I'm running into a problem with my symbols, they seem to be going out of sync in my animation. I'm using multiple instances of the same symbol. See below link for the .html file for example of what I mean. The wings go out of sync after awhile, even though they're the same symbol.
Is Photoshop able to determine whether a particular image has previously been modified in some way? Or are there other pieces of software that allow you to do that?
I was trying to create a PDF with some modified TIFFs. The TIFFs were opened, manipulated and flattened in Photoshop to reduce file size. I then took a few TIFFs and tried to create a new PDF. When the PDF was created I zoomed into one of the pages.
Noticed that the Photoshop editing has shown thru (all of the good and removed editing). It was like all of the Photoshop editing had come thru, all though I had flattened the image at its final output.  I then tried to create another PDF. I took the flattened TIFF images and saved them as PDFs in Photoshop. This worked. However, the file size was super huge. The 'reduce file size' destroyed the clarity of the pictures.  Is there a way to create a PDF from flattened TIFFs without all of the Photoshop edits to come along?  Acrobat 10 Photoshop CS5 Windows 7 HP x64
I just ran some file synchronisation software and it reported that a JPEG file had been changed on my C drive. I didn't remember changing it so checked. I have a trial version of Photoshop CS6. It seems that if a JPEG is opened into Camera RAW and then opened into Photoshop, then Windows reports it as modified, even if no changes were made. Â My question is does this behaviour result in the image being resaved with a loss of quality each time that it is opened this way?
I have a little problem. When the *.psd is transformed into *.HTML, for example, you may find an image on the HTML page acting as a button labeled as "Link1". and this image has the name templ_30.jpg. To change the text "link1" into, let we say, "Home", I have to reload the whole of the *.psd into ImageReady then go to the text layer which holds the word Link1 the change it into Home and finally do save optimized as again. By this I have got the image templ_30.jpg but with the word Home instead Link1.
What I want to ask, How can I just change the templ_30.jpg only or by other word How can I get a single image from the *.psd template where this image is an image of the HTML page produced by ImageReady.
i have an already existing selection. i would like to add to it. once i have drawn the new additional selection and selected the ADD TO SELECTION command how do i apply it?
I started with a points file which I created an existing surface called EG. I then used a number of feature line to create the gradings, grading surfaces and associated volume surfaces (compared to EG) also had other drawing elements and aerial photo in place. I had a lot of grading scenarios to do and it was all in one file. It was getting out of hand, so I duplicated the file, deleted the gradings (retained the EG surface) then added another set of new gradings and volume surfaces against EG. I did this in 4 files. So now I have multiple files that contain duplicates of the same EG surface and other features, but have unique gradings and surfaces referenced to those individual EGs.
Files all have similar structure:
+Various features (duplicated in all files)
 - base aerial photo
 - other drawing elements
+Surfaces
 - EG surface (duplicated in all files)
 - Grading A-1 surface
 - Grading A-2 surface
 - Grading A-1 volume surface
 - Grading A-2 volume surface
+Site A
 - Grading A-1
 - Grading A-2
I recognise now that I should have data shared the EG surface from 1 file (and xrefed the other common drawing elements??) but given my situation now, what is the recommend way of putting it all together?  Civil3D 2013 (infrastructure suite) ANZ & UKIE Self-built i7-3930K, 16Gb RAM, P9X79 m/board SSD(system), HDD(data), GTX680, Win7Pro64
Using CS5.5 / Win7 x64. Â We do a lot of stuff using smart objects - replacing logos etc. Load the template image, swap the logo, save a new PSD file with the new logo on it in case we need it again, then save a jpeg for the client. Â Oddly (and I think this has only started to happen since I've been working at home and saving onto a local drive on a laptop, rather than onto a server) the new PSD has today's date as its Date Modified, but the jpeg doesn't - it seems to use the original image's created date instead, which might be a few years ago in the case of some of the images. So when I'm attaching files to an email to send to the client, all the jpegs I want are all over the folder, instead of at the top with their associated PS files (sorted by date, newest first).
I recently upgradedfrom "Elements 2" to Version 11. I previously saved all my edited work in JPEG format and to the "My Pictures" folder. I was then able to open all modified photos and share them with another computer without resorting to any specialised program. I wish to continue to do the same using Version 11. Having made several attempts without success to save modified photos using my well tried and successful method and having read the Manual to see why the process is not successful with Version 11 I am now exteremely frustrated. Each attempt to save a modified photo results in a Thumbnail icon being loaded into the "My Pictures" folder with the elements 11 logo. I then are only able to open the photo (which incidently does not carry the modified file name from the original) by way of the elements 11 program.Â
Have PSE 9 and over the years have found have duplicated categories and subcategories and wish to know the best way to Merge and organise them. Also have a huge list of 'Imported Keywords' and not sure how they are formed and how to mege them with the existing categories, sub-categories etc?
Photoshop CS5.1 Â When I click on Open File, the window that comes up has several default columns (FileName, Date, Size, etc). Â I can right-click on the tab bar and add "Date Modified" to the tabs, but I would like to have "Date Modified" be a default column whenever I open the file selector (and no matter which folder I open up). Â I cannot find a way to do this. I want to know the last date I modified a file, not when it was created. Â Is there a way to universally set this column as a default?
I have been trying to save images from one file to a final modified one. Two problems:Â
1) Some images are unedited and save sometimes but not always. Why?   2) Some are a combination of an original plus a transformed close-up from another image. When the finished edited image saves, it is much smaller than the few unedited images that did successfully save. Why?  The images are digital photos of my jewelry. In order to decrease the number of pages on my impending website, I am attempting to transfer, when one is available, a resized close-up to the other shot of the full set (close-ups are what sell the work!). Some of the images show 25% on the top bar but that doesn't seem to make a difference as to whether it will save or not. Others (I notice they seem to be more horizontal images) are 16.7% ? I tried to upload example images to illustrate what I am trying to do but kept getting an error message.Â
