Photoshop :: CS5.5 / JPEG (date Modified) Isn't Changing
Dec 12, 2012
Using CS5.5 / Win7 x64.
Â
We do a lot of stuff using smart objects - replacing logos etc. Load the template image, swap the logo, save a new PSD file with the new logo on it in case we need it again, then save a jpeg for the client.
Â
Oddly (and I think this has only started to happen since I've been working at home and saving onto a local drive on a laptop, rather than onto a server) the new PSD has today's date as its Date Modified, but the jpeg doesn't - it seems to use the original image's created date instead, which might be a few years ago in the case of some of the images. So when I'm attaching files to an email to send to the client, all the jpegs I want are all over the folder, instead of at the top with their associated PS files (sorted by date, newest first).

Photoshop CS5.1
Â
When I click on Open File, the window that comes up has several default columns (FileName, Date, Size, etc).
Â
I can right-click on the tab bar and add "Date Modified" to the tabs, but I would like to have "Date Modified" be a default column whenever I open the file selector (and no matter which folder I open up).
Â
I cannot find a way to do this. I want to know the last date I modified a file, not when it was created.
Â
Is there a way to universally set this column as a default?

I noticed that when we convert NEF files to DNG in it properties the Date Created and Date Modified are changed to the present date and not the original dates of the files in question. Is there any way to make such a conversion without changing these properties? Yes, I know 'Date taken' does not change--but this info does not show up when you hover a file only the info in its properties. Also am I correct in assuming that this conversion is 100% loss-less, nothing but nothing is lost in the quality and info of the file (besides the file size)?

I just found that renaming presets use the "Original/Digitized Date Time", which could differ from the actual Date Time when camera battery deplished and the time got reset, or simply when having DST/Time Zone issues. Is there a way to call the modified time? I mean... IMHO this should be the default case!

I just ran some file synchronisation software and it reported that a JPEG file had been changed on my C drive. I didn't remember changing it so checked. I have a trial version of Photoshop CS6. It seems that if a JPEG is opened into Camera RAW and then opened into Photoshop, then Windows reports it as modified, even if no changes were made.
Â
My question is does this behaviour result in the image being resaved with a loss of quality each time that it is opened this way?

I did a series of shots with an incorrect EV setting ( Exposure compensation) so I used Lightroom 4.3 to modify the exposure on these jpeg files. I then exported the modified images, and found that the file size was only 50% of the original.

When I am editing document and save it as a JPEG the date and the time of the jpeg are not the current date/time. What do I need to do to change this behavior? I would rather that the new image have the current date/time on the file.

I shoot raw and after developing and exporting the pictures to jpeg in OSX, the new files show the export date as the creation and modification dates. How can I keep the shooting date as the creation date to sort the pictures in the finder appropriately?

I am using PSE10 and I have just upgraded from lion to mountain lion 10.8.2. Previously when I clicked "write keyword tag and properties info to photo" it seemed to just do that. Since the upgrade to mountain lion when I click 'write keyword tag and properties info to photo" it also changes the date the photo was created to the date the info was written to the photo .
Â
How I can get it to write the keyword info *without* changing the date the photo was created?

There seem to be a problem with PSE10 and PSE11 on my computer when loading image files digitized on my film scanner. When loaded into the editor the image file immediate takes today’s date and time, and thus changes place on the timeline. However, sometimes the original image file date remains intact, for no obvious reason. I find this very frustrating.
Â
My setup is an HP computer running Windows7 Ultimate 64 bit, with i7 processor and 12GB memory. My film scanner is a Minolta Dimage Elite II working with a Windows XP-based computer, and data are transferred using memory stick.
It might be mentioned that I have made tests with a fixed set of image files on several computers running WindowsXP 32 bit, and several versions of PSE , including PSE10, without seeing this problem.

I have a bunch of .bmp files that need to be converted to .png files. Some of the .bmp files cannot be made into .png files without being converted to .jpg files first. The first action does the .bmp --> to .jpg. The second action finishes up the process converting the .jpg to .png. I would make the change over into one long action: Process1. But when I convert one file to another and save to another location, I need to open that same file name with the different extension and then run the second process. So I've got two separate actions now and run one after the other. Being on the lazy side, you know, one less click is a wonderful thing..., can I combine the actions or is there a way to do Process1 all at one time?

I have included both a text and a date as part of the photo caption on each of my photos.  When I have attempted to search for a specific date or year, however, nothing comes up.  For example, if I search for my photo on "Fido 1985", I can find Fido, but if I simply enter "1985", I get nothing.

I've got some 500 photos in a folder which were imported on two different dates. I've created a new album on the right hand side under "Organize" and just the photos I want are in there. When I look at the folder on the right, all the pictures are there. But I can't call up just that folder; instead what I get on my screen is all 2500 photos in all my photo albums! Not what I want! What I want to get is all the photos in the order in which they were taken on the actual day as all 500 photos were taken at the same day. And I want to be able to view just the 500 photos in that folder by the time those pictures were taken. But, when I imported the second batch of photos it showed the date the file was created rather than the date the photo was taken so, basically, I've got one batch of photos showing the date they were taken (which I downloaded via a link a few days later), and one showing the date they were copied!

I recently set up Elements 12. Prior to this I used elements 11. In that catalog I have more photos that I don't want. So I decided to export the ones I want then import into PSE 12. As I do this many of the dates on the pictures change from the date taken to the current date. I have tried several different ways and can't stop the dates changing. I am putting them into mobile albums in PSE 12 if that makes a difference.

All of a sudden I notice that when I open a file in Autocad Architecture, it shows the file creation date and not the actual last save date. Only thing I can think of is I reinstalled 3dsmax Design and I wonder if that changed something. I attached a screenshot for reference.

Why does the capture date in the metadata panel not match the capture date seen in the grid extra view and how do I fix it? The images that I have in my library are digitized negatives and I've corrected the capture dates and times to be accurate; however, the capture date and in the metadata window shows what I've changed it to and the date in both the grid extra view and the Metadata>Edit Capture Time... options both reflect the date the image was last modified. Not all of the images in my library are this way and some show the correct information. When sorted by Capture Time, all images fall exactly where they should in the proper order (based on the changed, corrected edit time and not the modified date). I saved metadata to the file with the new date but it didn't fix it.Â

I was trying to create a PDF with some modified TIFFs. The TIFFs were opened, manipulated and flattened in Photoshop to reduce file size. I then took a few TIFFs and tried to create a new PDF. When the PDF was created I zoomed into one of the pages.
Noticed that the Photoshop editing has shown thru (all of the good and removed editing). It was like all of the Photoshop editing had come thru, all though I had flattened the image at its final output.
Â
I then tried to create another PDF. I took the flattened TIFF images and saved them as PDFs in Photoshop. This worked. However, the file size was super huge. The 'reduce file size' destroyed the clarity of the pictures.
Â
Is there a way to create a PDF from flattened TIFFs without all of the Photoshop edits to come along?

I have a little problem. When the *.psd is transformed into *.HTML, for example, you may find an image on the HTML page acting as a button labeled as "Link1". and this image has the name templ_30.jpg. To change the text "link1" into, let we say, "Home", I have to reload the whole of the *.psd into ImageReady then go to the text layer which holds the word Link1 the change it into Home and finally do save optimized as again. By this I have got the image templ_30.jpg but with the word Home instead Link1.
What I want to ask, How can I just change the templ_30.jpg only or by other word How can I get a single image from the *.psd template where this image is an image of the HTML page produced by ImageReady.
