Photoshop :: When I Greyscale A Photo The Entire Program Locks Up.
Jul 30, 2008
All other controls work fine until i use the grey scale tool. All other options/controls become inactive including close and minimize. I have to use ctrl+alt+delete to exit.
The main reason I use grey scale is to be able to use the arbitrary rotation tool. Is there away to use arbitrary without using grey scale?

Whenever I use this to convert a colour image (or even a black and white one) to greyscale, the image takes a leap in brightness (gamma?), despite the Preview showing otherwise. I've used the default (set at 15% dot gain), even taken the sliders down to -200%, it makes no difference. How do I maintain the brightness when converting?

I've been printing out a lot of black and white photos on photopaper on a HP Photosmart 7510e.
The printouts are very dark so I've had to boost the brightness levelsin GIMP prior to printing. The problem is that this takes extra timeand I also don't want to save these levels in the XCF file. I would say that (going by the Gamma Display Filter) the printouts are around40% of the brightness they ought to be.

I'm using P&G 2013 to generate SVG floorplans for some data visualization on one of our servers, and I've used the product in the past with no issues at all.
However, I have a file that I cannot export to SVG. I have narrowed down the issue to one layer, which is composed entirely of about 1600 simple rectangles with dashed lines. I have also tried using a standard solid line for the shapes, with no luck.
When the export process starts, the program becomes unresponsive, and the status dialog shows it very slowly prepairing to export. When it switches to exporting the document, the counter never moves past 0%.
After an hour or two of not showing any progress, windows auto forces the program to close. Before the program is killed, task manager shows P&G using 100% of one core, and the memory usage increases up until the auto kill.
To try to determine if it was some layer properties causing the issue, I moved a small subset (maybe 15 - 20%) of the rectangles to a new .xar file and tried to export, with the same behavior.

When I double-click on a photo file (e.g. jpg) Elements 12 opens but the photo isn't in the Editor window. Double-clicking on the photo again opens the photo in the Editor window.
On all the other versions of Elements I have used, one double-click on a file opened Elements and the photo appeared in the Editor window. Is Elements 12 different or is there something I need to change to make this work as it always did?

While editing a photo in CS3 the program shut down and will not reopen my psd file. The error message reads "cannot complete your request because of a program error" -- it is a very large file (I have been saving it all along) and I had just "flattened layers" and went to open up a new, blank photo file when it shut down. Is there anyway to get this file to open?

I am unable to minimize or close Photo Paint by mouseclick in W7. The program bar (is that how it is called?) is missing, so it is impossible to toggle between draw and photo paint. Coreldraw does show the program bar. Changing monitor resolution did not work, neither did reinstalling. On another computer of mine, with W XP there is no problem.

Any program which can be used to change the EXIF data.In particular, I want to change the shutter speed. Photomatix
apparently reads the EXIF data to determine relative UV.
The Screen and Multiply blend modes seem to change EV by about one. Naturally, this can't recover pixels at (0, 0, 0) or (255, 255, 255) but it comes close with most other values.

I am converting a photoshop doc to greyscale and saving it as an eps. when I place that eps into illustrator and try to print separation the eps is coming out in 4 color instead of just black. if I save that same file as a tiff and place it in illustrator it prints in just black. if someone else in my office opens the eps in photoshop and saves it again then it will print in only black. is there a setting somewhere in photoshop that i am missing that will fix this and allow me to save the greyscale eps correctly.
I am running photoshop cs.

I have several greyscale masks that I've downloaded. The only way I know to get the greyscale mask into a photoshop document is a method I found on about.com:
1. Open mask, select all, copy
2. Activate Photoshop document, Q for quick mask mode, paste from step 1, Q to exit quick mask mode, then click the layer mask mode icon in the layers palette.
This works fine, but is there ANY other way to get a save greyscale mask into a Photoshop document?

Every time I convert an image/psd/tif to greyscale inside photoshop or in ACR my levels sliders and curves are inverted such that whites are on the left and blacks are on the right and everything is upside down (raising the curve on the black side lowers the blacks, lowering curve on white side raises the whites etc). This never happened to me before but happens every time now, I'm not sure what button I've hit to make photoshop do this.

I have a picture, and I want it to move smoothly from full color to full grey scale.
When I combine to pictures, I add a layer mask, and use a gradient to make the opacity move smootly from 100% to 0%
Can I use the same technique, with a gradient, to smoothly remove color from one side of a picture?

So... what I want to do is give every player a yellow-red shirt. What I did with the palyer on the right: I just re-brushed the red and yellow on a new layer above the shirt and set the layer-style on "color" and the opacity around 80%. So far so good...
Then I wanted to do the same for the other players... But I just can't get it right. Ofcourse the problem is that the greyscale-values behind the color-layer are different every time.

Newbie question but couldn't seem to find the answer using the search fxn.
With the pic below, I want to have a greyscale background but have a colourful blue colour for the bunch of grapes. I am able to create the greyscale background by using:
Image > Mode > Greyscale
but I don't know how to add realistic colour to the grapes. The colour I add seem to look cartoon-like.
