Photoshop :: Type 1 Not Working On XP 64
Sep 2, 2008All other fonts work and all Type 1s work on other programs. What do I do to make it work? They worked on XP 32.

Photoshop :: Type Tool Isn't Working
Feb 20, 2004I have photoshop 5.5 and all of suddent the Type Tool stopped working. The font size is so small (I can only see a DOT where the insertion key is) regardless the font size. I even put font size to 200 points. It still gives me a little dot in the input box where I can type the text.
My photoshop was working for a while. Now it started acting weird.
Do I need to reinstall Photoshop or I need a new computer?
I am running PII 400 with 128 Ram. Windows XP Pro.

Mar 10, 2012The first thing I noticed was that I could not use the type tool to create 'live' text on a layer. With the type tool selected I get the following error message when clicking to begin typing:

I quit Photoshop then attempted to launch the application by opening the file. The application opened but the file wouldn't, giving the same error message.

I quite Photoshop again and relaunched the application from the Dock. The applicatiuion opens fine but displays the same error message (before I have attempted to open a file).

With a file open I checked the type palette, where the dafault typeface is shown as Myriad Pro, but the default settings are:

Linefeed (leading): 1pt
Kerning: 1
Tracking 1
Type height: 0%
Type width: 0%
Baseline shift: 0
Colour: black
Language: multiple
Type quality: none

Some odd settings there. The type tool bar (at the top of my display) has blank fields. Typing desired values into any of these fields doesn’t resolver the issue.I have tried restarting, creating a new file but to no avail. The type tools in Illustrator and InDesign are working as expected, so it would appear to be a Photoshop problem and I’m stumped ..
I’m running CS5.5 (Photoshop 12.1) on a Macbook Pro 2.5Ghz Core i7 with 8Gb RAM

Sep 25, 2005I've got CS2 and have been trying to learn all the new features. I was trying to add text (type) to a web layout last night and experienced a rather weird (at least to me) problem that I can't seem to figure out and from everything I've read isn't supposed to happen.
If I select any of the type tools (regular or mask, hor or vert), and then either click for point type mode or click and drag for paragraph mode, all of the text I enter is placed on top of itself. In other words, say I type an 'N' and then an 'O', then O will be placed on TOP of the N. This continues as long as I type.
Is there some setting that's been inadvertantly set? I'm able to use the type tools in Illustrator perfectly fine, but not a clue as to whats wrong with Photoshop.

Nov 12, 2012Ever since I've installed CS6 my Text tool has not been working properly AT ALL. a Number of problems

1. I cant resize using the 00.pt at all. If I switch from 72 to 48 (or any other number) it will stay the same
2. manually rezising also causes issues, I don't get a full preview of the text even after sized. its cut off at 50%-75% height
3. the bounding box doesn't even go outside the entire object. its usually about 20% of the height
4. it often needs to "load" I've NEVER seen this before.

Its also since caused problems to CS5.
Photoshop :: Why Do Arrow Keys Stop Working With Type In CS6
Sep 19, 2012I searched this issue and found many forums discussing the topic, but no solution. When using PS CS6, the arrow keys randomly stop working when navigating around in text. This is extremely frustrating. Per other discussions, and my experience, there doesn't seem to be a constant trigger. Saving the PS file when it happens SEEMS to fix it - at least temporarily. It's been happening off and on since I upgraded.

Adobe reps (they're say "employee") monitoring the photoshop.com forums suggested the fix is to close all other apps. No one works that way. Chrome (or other browsers) were speculated to be the cause. but I just had this happen without any browser open.

Photoshop :: Keyboard Symbols Not Working In Type Tool?
Jul 27, 2012I can't insert certain symbols with the text tool. When I type "&" it inserts a "/" and when I type "/" it inserts a "-". I know for a fact it's not my keyboard because it works in any other text editor or text field. Is this just some new weird setting in photoshop cs6?

Mar 9, 2014I keep having issues with the text tool so here is what i did. I opened a new document, clicked the "Type tool", drew a box with it and starting typing, now everything was working as it should, while typing when i would get to the right side of the "Type tool" box i had drawn, the text would stay within the box and the next line would begin sorte of like this (asume the imaginary box is four spaces long):

But then i started to do the same thing later in the project and the text would stay on one line and just disappear when it got to the end of the box, and i dont know how to get it working like it did before. When reshaping the box the text would stay the same size (was not a point type problem) but the text would basically just run off the end of the box and disappear, here is an example using the same text i showed above, but i'll use "b" to simulate the last four "a" lines which in this case the "b"'s will represent the invisible "a"'s. In this case the box is still four spaces wide and 5 spaces in height, but the text does not seem to acknowledge the box. And member i'm only using the "type tool", to draw these boxes, i'm not acutally drawing square shapes. Also i'm using Illustrator CC, and am using a mac.

Mar 5, 2014I have just recently downloaded InDesign CC (I use Mac OSX.9.2) and got the World Tools plugin to typeset in different languages.

However, I am having trouble using the selection and type tools. In about the first half of the file, the type tool displays the pointer/dashed box/I-beam icon and doesn't put the cursor in the text when I click on it. I can't click to select text as I should be able to, and if I try to click and drag, all I do is end up creating another text frame. But in about the second half of the file, the selection and type tools work the way they should.

When I click and hold on the type tool, the cursor changes to the crosshairs icon for creating text frames and the "W: H: " dialogue box for text frames appears.

Lightroom :: Import - Sort By Media Type Not Working?
Jan 19, 2012When importing media from my iphone I'd like to ONLY import jpgs, not the mov files. In searching, the sort option in the import dialog on "media type" should work so I can easily just select new jpg files, however this does nothing for me. Is this supposed to work? I'm running OSX 10.7.2 and LR 3.6.

May 22, 2013I run fbxexport from the file pulldown, and it does not ask me to select objects, and says none of the objects in the drawing can be exported.
I type the command and it works fine.This was mentioned in past posts on 2012.
I am thinking it has something to do the the bug where 2014 could not export shape files, so you had to get a new providers.xml.
My IMX-Export command is also acting funny where it does not ask a filename to export, it uses the current dwg name.

Nov 21, 2013In Illustrator CS6 I established a keyboard shortcut of Alt+Shift+Ctrl+= to the command Type-->Change Case-->UPPERCASE (and Alt+Shift+Ctrl+- to Type-->Change Case-->Title Case). In Illustrator CC, these two keyboard shortcuts are not working. They are displaying in the Type menu correctly, and the menu commands themselves work correctly, but the shortcuts do not work.

Feb 11, 2014I'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

Photoshop :: Type Tool Won't Type Anything...
Aug 16, 2009the type tool won't let me insert any type whatsoever in JPG or PSD files. I click the type tool and then click somewhere on the image and all it gives me is a dot but no flashing cursor. As I said, resetting my prefs/settings while starting up Photoshop did not help. Another weird thing it does is that when I go to Canvas Size for a medium sized image, it says that the width is 588 inches and the height is 288 inches.

Jul 2, 2012Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.

By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.

Jun 6, 2012I have a type layer with some text in it (a headline, let's say). I click on the layer, I click on the Character Panel, and first thing I see is the color in the Panel is not the color of the font in the layer.

I then click on any Panel property, and the text in this layer is replaced by text from another layer in my document ( a paragraph layer, let's say), but the color is not the same as the layer the text came from.
Illustrator :: Unable To Type Vertical Letters With The Vertical Type Tool?
Apr 15, 2013I choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.Â
