I can't insert certain symbols with the text tool. When I type "&" it inserts a "/" and when I type "/" it inserts a "-". I know for a fact it's not my keyboard because it works in any other text editor or text field. Is this just some new weird setting in photoshop cs6?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with getting quotation marks to display correctly, they look like 2 stacked >> symbols. They change slightly depending on what font I'm using, but they all ride at the base of the text. I cannot acheive normal looking curly or straight quotes at all.Â
I have tried switching smart quotes on and off in the preferences, restarting, etc. I've noticed this problem in the past, but I thought it was the font I was using. The same thing happens with Times New Roman. I'm running an up to date version of PSextended CS5, 64bit on win 7 64.Â
I recently requested assistance to find French accent keyboard shortcuts. This I received, but I can't seem to get these shortcuts to work using the Type Tool on a document in CS6. Is there a particular setting that I need? Â
 I am working with a PC.  I have even tried using a built in font to ensure the problem was not that the font of choice not having the accents I was looking for.
In Illustrator CS6 I established a keyboard shortcut of Alt+Shift+Ctrl+= to the command Type-->Change Case-->UPPERCASE (and Alt+Shift+Ctrl+- to Type-->Change Case-->Title Case). In Illustrator CC, these two keyboard shortcuts are not working. They are displaying in the Type menu correctly, and the menu commands themselves work correctly, but the shortcuts do not work.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've used Photoshop 7 for around a year now, using it mainly to touch up digital photos. I've just upgraded to Photoshop CS, but I've found that I'm having difficulties with my keyboard.
Usually, to zoom in, I can press CTRL + +. However, when I do this, nothing happens. Also, when I make a mistake with the magnetic lasso tool, I can usually press my Delete key to undo the last fixed point. Again, this doesn't work. All that is on on my keyboard is "Number Lock", which just allows me to use the right hand number keypad. Even with this off, the problems still aren't solved.
I have photoshop 5.5 and all of suddent the Type Tool stopped working. The font size is so small (I can only see a DOT where the insertion key is) regardless the font size. I even put font size to 200 points. It still gives me a little dot in the input box where I can type the text.
My photoshop was working for a while. Now it started acting weird.
Do I need to reinstall Photoshop or I need a new computer?
I am running PII 400 with 128 Ram. Windows XP Pro.
how do you type in a specific area? i dragged my cursor and formed a square but when i type, it appears out of that square. i'm using ps cs6
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe first thing I noticed was that I could not use the type tool to create 'live' text on a layer. With the type tool selected I get the following error message when clicking to begin typing:

I quit Photoshop then attempted to launch the application by opening the file. The application opened but the file wouldn't, giving the same error message.

I quite Photoshop again and relaunched the application from the Dock. The applicatiuion opens fine but displays the same error message (before I have attempted to open a file).

With a file open I checked the type palette, where the dafault typeface is shown as Myriad Pro, but the default settings are:

Some odd settings there. The type tool bar (at the top of my display) has blank fields. Typing desired values into any of these fields doesn’t resolver the issue.I have tried restarting, creating a new file but to no avail. The type tools in Illustrator and InDesign are working as expected, so it would appear to be a Photoshop problem and I’m stumped ..

Ever since I've installed CS6 my Text tool has not been working properly AT ALL. a Number of problems

1. I cant resize using the 00.pt at all. If I switch from 72 to 48 (or any other number) it will stay the same
2. manually rezising also causes issues, I don't get a full preview of the text even after sized. its cut off at 50%-75% height
3. the bounding box doesn't even go outside the entire object. its usually about 20% of the height
4. it often needs to "load" I've NEVER seen this before.

Its also since caused problems to CS5.
I keep having issues with the text tool so here is what i did. I opened a new document, clicked the "Type tool", drew a box with it and starting typing, now everything was working as it should, while typing when i would get to the right side of the "Type tool" box i had drawn, the text would stay within the box and the next line would begin sorte of like this (asume the imaginary box is four spaces long):

But then i started to do the same thing later in the project and the text would stay on one line and just disappear when it got to the end of the box, and i dont know how to get it working like it did before. When reshaping the box the text would stay the same size (was not a point type problem) but the text would basically just run off the end of the box and disappear, here is an example using the same text i showed above, but i'll use "b" to simulate the last four "a" lines which in this case the "b"'s will represent the invisible "a"'s. In this case the box is still four spaces wide and 5 spaces in height, but the text does not seem to acknowledge the box. And member i'm only using the "type tool", to draw these boxes, i'm not acutally drawing square shapes. Also i'm using Illustrator CC, and am using a mac.
every time I try to type a number or symbol, the blinking line suddenly switches over to the left side of whatever I'm type, and it's like everything is in reverse. I can't type numbers on symbols with the text tool normally at all.I literally just installed it and this problem appeared.also, unless, I make the switch, the blinking line will stay on the left side of the text no matter what. this is really weird. everything I type is in reverse.

View 20 Replies View RelatedIf I use the create new layers panel and click on the make a square with the dashed lines to then fill it in with black or color and the deselect the shape with cntrl+D it will render a perfect polygon, but what if I use the pen tool to draw curves and connect the first anchor point with the last anchor point
How I know there might be a way to turn that shape into a type that I can also select it and fill with color but not asking to make or stroke path. I try to fill in shape with color through the menu task bar on top of the canvas window pane.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?

Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.

By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
I just installed Photoshop CS2 and it's crashing as soon as I press any key on the keyboard. The stuff is still working as long as I use the mouse.

- Reset Text tool.
- Make sure type preference is on default.

View 9 Replies View Relatedthe type tool won't let me insert any type whatsoever in JPG or PSD files. I click the type tool and then click somewhere on the image and all it gives me is a dot but no flashing cursor. As I said, resetting my prefs/settings while starting up Photoshop did not help. Another weird thing it does is that when I go to Canvas Size for a medium sized image, it says that the width is 588 inches and the height is 288 inches.

I use a Mackbook Pro (with Lion) my keyboard sometimes stops working when I use Photoshop (CS6, but happened the same thing with CS5) (mainly when I do digital painting with a Wacom, but just happened now, when I wasn't use it), and it doesn't work at all (not just with Photoshop)
Sometimes it starts working again on his own, but sometimes it doesn't so I need to restart the computer. Is there any Terminal command I can use to try to do like a restart to the keyboard?
I have Photoshop CC through Creative cloud. My keyboard shortcuts stop working, then Photoshop really slows down, then crashes. I've been through Adobe support five times now, and it works for about 1/2 hour, then acts up again.Â

When creating a new document or saving a file, I cannot type anything into the document name field. Same happens when trying to create a new folder to save in.No tool shortcuts work (M for marquee, B for brush, V for move, etc.). On-canvas brush changes ([ and ] for size, { and } for hardness) also do not work.Most regular shortcuts do work (Cmd+Z, Cmd+S, etc.) but "advanced" shortcuts do not work (Cmd+Alt+Z, Cmd+Shift+Z, etc.).

I used Photoshop CS4 before with no problems. Other Adobe programs (Dreamweaver, Flash, Acrobat, etc.) are working normally.
I want Ctrl+Shift+S to do SAVE AS. I set it as such in the keyboard shortcuts, but when I do that key combo, all I get is this: The mouse pointer changes to this. I can move it around and draw a box (in the background of PS, outside any open images). I want it to go away and do SAVE AS instead.Â

Restart PSRestart MacDo something else for a bit and jump back into PS praying it might now be ok.The problem exists using the laptop keyboard alone, and while using a bluetooth(apple) keyboard.
Keyboard shortcuts will work for a little while, then suddenly stop. I can still select tools 'manually', clicking the icons, but pressing P for the paint brush tool or E for the eraser will have no effect. So far as I can tell this happens at random. It has also been fixing itself at random, after some undetermined amount of time not working, but then it just happens again.Â

I've got like 580 gigs of free disk space, and 8 GB of RAM...
Some of the keyboard shortcuts are not working. Specifically, I'm talking about the shortcut to increase/decreases the brush size.
I found a sheet with all of the Photoshop keyboard shortcuts and it says that the "[" and "]" keys increase and decreases the size of the brush. But it does not work. I made sure the cheat sheet of shortcuts I found were for CS2. So I'm wondering how to fix this problem.
Most shortcuts of mine are working. But some, like print, color settings are not bringing up the appropropriate boxes. And the strange part is that the correct keys are listed in the menu.
