I remember on Photoshop 7.0 (Which I had before CS3) you could select the area of one layer by holding Ctrl+Clicking on the layer.
But in CS3, when you hold Ctrl+Click on a layer it adds it to the selection such as Ctrl does in normal Windows and Mac use.
Does anyone know the way to select a layers area in Photoshop CS3?
I have three areas in an image that I want to select. Using the magnetic lasso, I select one, then when I move to the other one, the first selection disappears. How can I keep the first one and move on to two others?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I have a masked layer and try to drag-select other items on other layers outside of it, it still gets selected if the image area happens to be located within the selection range. Or in other words: why would anything outside of the masked area get selected at all, when the point of a mask in not just to hide what's outside, but also to 'deactivate' it,so that the masked area is all we are working with. This didn't happen before, may be those were older versions of photoshop.

I am trying to create tilt shift effects. issue in selecting focus and blur areas. I do the following - Go to Quick Mask(Press 'Q') --> Select Gradient (Press 'G') --> Then I draw a vertical line to define the focus area. Usually a relatively darker red color used to appear as a band. But suddenly I see a very vague red color. And when I exit Quick Mask (Press 'Q') again the marching ants selects the entire picture and not the focus and blur areas.

This is what I have so far. You see that rectangle with the screw in the middle? There's my issue. I need to colorize the blue, but not the screw.
I know there is a tool where it everything is masked in red and it selects what isn't red, but that is too hard to use. I want to use the lasso tool.
If I select the vetor mask of a layer, then easily I can use the "add to shape area" feature, and as such, two different shapes will behave as one.Of course I must first select the vector mask.But, is there a way I can go the other way?

I am trying to select the thorns/rose seperately in the attatched image, but because of the varying levels of definition of the borders, I cant see any way to do so other than by hand pixel by pixel. Are there any addons that make this task easier, or is there a simple function that I have just not seen.
My goal is to overlay it on three seperate colored layers, and "cut through" the lower layers with the top layer set on multiply, that way coloring the details while leaving the shading intact.

Working through CS4 Classroom In A Book. Page 257 tells me to sellect the Subtract From Shape Option or press either the hyphen or minus key. There is no Subtract From Shape Option on my tool box and pressing the hyphen or minus key does nothing.

(At WM_LBUTTONDOWN) this would be fixed in update #2 as I use this feature all the time, and having no marquee makes it very awkward to use.It should be an easy fix as marquees are drawn successfully when selecting a rectangular mask area and the Rectangle tool etc., and it seems sensible to me to call the same subroutine for all rubber rectangle actions.
View 14 Replies View RelatedBasically for example (to make this easy to understand) I've got 4 squares with hatches inside and im trying to select one single hatched area in one of the squares (and delete it). But upon selecting it it's selecting the hatches in the other 3 squares (as they were added at the same time). I've carried out a few searches in google etc and experimented with "pickstyle" but with no avail, also I've looked at groups but there are none in the drawing(so I can't ungroup).
I can do it (which I've just realised) by deselecting the boundaries in "edit hatch" but just wondered if there was a quicker way?
Is there anyway I can undo "add to shape area" effect. I am not talking about the case where I can go back with step backward. I am talking the case where I have saved my work, closed Ps, reopen it, and then undoing the "add to shape area" effect.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI love Paint.net. It's the only image editor I use now and has pretty much every feature I need in an image editor. But today I'm attempting a project I can't seem to find the right tools for.
I'm trying to copy and paste a rectangle onto another image. But the object in the image I'm pasting to is tilted slightly. So I need to find a way to change my copied rectangle into a trapezoid that will make it look natural on the new image.
Under LAYERS - ROTATE / ZOOM, I found some tools that seem to work. But now I need to select only the trapezoid to paste to the new image. The only cropping tools I can find only allow a rectangular selection. I can't find a tool to choose a corner to corner irregular selection. Does Paint.net have such a tool or is there a plugin I can download for this process.
I need to place a circle selection around a ring shape in a gif graphic and then delete the background outside of the ring shape. The gif I am working with is a square shape with a green background and on that is a white circle shape with lettering going around it and a small pic inside the circle shape. I want to only use the white circle shape with the text going around it and the pic inside and discard the green square background appearing outside the ring.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with a delay in selecting an object and selecting a command.
When I select an object the pointer has at least a 3 second delay before it starts moving around normally again. It is the same with selecting a command. This has started to get tedious. It has worked fine in the past so I don't think it is a RAM/graphics card problem.
OK, today, or actually just this afternoon I've noticed it has become much harder to select items with the mouse.
Points, nodes, etc...anything where you'd typically hover the mouse over the item and it highlights for you to select it.
For example, lets say you want to project a point from another sketch, or select the center node of a line, etc.
Never really had an issue until this afternoon where now it seems I have to be right on top of the item and I cannot budge one bit or it won't select it. It is now taking me numerous attempts to select things like points (zooming in does not work, points scale accordingly).
Is there a setting somewhere? I can't seem to find such under Tools>Application Options and the like.
I've recently migrated from AutoCAD 2008 (non-industry specific) to AutoCAD 2010 so I don't know if this was an issue in 2009.
Back in 2008, when I choose the 'window' option when specifying a plot area, AutoCAD would show the workspace so that I could manually select a windowed plot area, and at the same time the whole workspace would be greyed out except the previously active window area.
This was handy, because we can have as many two dozen title-blocks (and therefore separate viewports) in paperspace, and knowing what plot area I last plotted or added as a saved page setup.
In 2010, it no longer does that. I now have to rely on the dashed border to know where the active plot area is/was (checked 'display printable area' in options>display tab) which I personally don't really like using.
How to changes the settings for the "Square Area" in mapcheck's closure summary. When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.

I need to determine whether an area intersects with another area.The left case can be easily determined by Polyline.IntersectWith(Polyline...).But in the right case, the two polygons intersect/overlap each other while polylines do not intersect.
What would be the efficient way to determine the right case polygons are intersecting polygons?
After selecting the area type tool, I try to click and drag but I get an error message: You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text inside a path. This worked before but I must have screwed something up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn Photoshop CS6, when you have a shape layer with a layer mask, and the two are not linked together, and the layer mask is selected, you should be able to scale the layer mask independently of the shape. What actually happens is the shape gets scaled and the layer mask stays untouched. In fact, even if you option-click on the layer mask to show the mask by itself, and then try to scale it, you still end up scaling the shape instead of the mask. Even if you go as far as to make a pixel selection of the layer mask and attempt to scale the pixels, the shape still gets scaled and the layer mask still stays put! Unbelievable!
This works correctly in CS4, but not in CS6 (don't know about CS5).
I want to make a vector shape from a path. Is there a way to bypass having to define a new custom shape? I just want to quickly add the vector shape to a new layer, but I don't need it defined as it'll just be used once.
