I have three areas in an image that I want to select. Using the magnetic lasso, I select one, then when I move to the other one, the first selection disappears. How can I keep the first one and move on to two others?
View 1 RepliesI remember on Photoshop 7.0 (Which I had before CS3) you could select the area of one layer by holding Ctrl+Clicking on the layer.
But in CS3, when you hold Ctrl+Click on a layer it adds it to the selection such as Ctrl does in normal Windows and Mac use.
Does anyone know the way to select a layers area in Photoshop CS3?
When I have a masked layer and try to drag-select other items on other layers outside of it, it still gets selected if the image area happens to be located within the selection range. Or in other words: why would anything outside of the masked area get selected at all, when the point of a mask in not just to hide what's outside, but also to 'deactivate' it,so that the masked area is all we are working with. This didn't happen before, may be those were older versions of photoshop.

I would have thought that if I click on an object (in the document area) it should select the layer. But this does not happen. In order to select an layer, I have to select it from the Layers palette.

I am trying to create tilt shift effects. issue in selecting focus and blur areas. I do the following - Go to Quick Mask(Press 'Q') --> Select Gradient (Press 'G') --> Then I draw a vertical line to define the focus area. Usually a relatively darker red color used to appear as a band. But suddenly I see a very vague red color. And when I exit Quick Mask (Press 'Q') again the marching ants selects the entire picture and not the focus and blur areas.

This is what I have so far. You see that rectangle with the screw in the middle? There's my issue. I need to colorize the blue, but not the screw.
I know there is a tool where it everything is masked in red and it selects what isn't red, but that is too hard to use. I want to use the lasso tool.
I am trying to select the thorns/rose seperately in the attatched image, but because of the varying levels of definition of the borders, I cant see any way to do so other than by hand pixel by pixel. Are there any addons that make this task easier, or is there a simple function that I have just not seen.

My goal is to overlay it on three seperate colored layers, and "cut through" the lower layers with the top layer set on multiply, that way coloring the details while leaving the shading intact.

when the eyedropper is selected, and the 'Select sample' button is pushed, no marquee is drawn when selecting the area to be sampled.Actually, it will often leave an XOR artefact at the beginning of the rectangle where the mouse is first clicked. (At WM_LBUTTONDOWN) this would be fixed in update #2 as I use this feature all the time, and having no marquee makes it very awkward to use.It should be an easy fix as marquees are drawn successfully when selecting a rectangular mask area and the Rectangle tool etc., and it seems sensible to me to call the same subroutine for all rubber rectangle actions.
View 14 Replies View RelatedBasically for example (to make this easy to understand) I've got 4 squares with hatches inside and im trying to select one single hatched area in one of the squares (and delete it). But upon selecting it it's selecting the hatches in the other 3 squares (as they were added at the same time). I've carried out a few searches in google etc and experimented with "pickstyle" but with no avail, also I've looked at groups but there are none in the drawing(so I can't ungroup).
I can do it (which I've just realised) by deselecting the boundaries in "edit hatch" but just wondered if there was a quicker way?
I am having a problem with a delay in selecting an object and selecting a command.
When I select an object the pointer has at least a 3 second delay before it starts moving around normally again. It is the same with selecting a command. This has started to get tedious. It has worked fine in the past so I don't think it is a RAM/graphics card problem.
OK, today, or actually just this afternoon I've noticed it has become much harder to select items with the mouse.
Points, nodes, etc...anything where you'd typically hover the mouse over the item and it highlights for you to select it.
For example, lets say you want to project a point from another sketch, or select the center node of a line, etc.
Never really had an issue until this afternoon where now it seems I have to be right on top of the item and I cannot budge one bit or it won't select it. It is now taking me numerous attempts to select things like points (zooming in does not work, points scale accordingly).
Is there a setting somewhere? I can't seem to find such under Tools>Application Options and the like.
I've recently migrated from AutoCAD 2008 (non-industry specific) to AutoCAD 2010 so I don't know if this was an issue in 2009.
Back in 2008, when I choose the 'window' option when specifying a plot area, AutoCAD would show the workspace so that I could manually select a windowed plot area, and at the same time the whole workspace would be greyed out except the previously active window area.
This was handy, because we can have as many two dozen title-blocks (and therefore separate viewports) in paperspace, and knowing what plot area I last plotted or added as a saved page setup.
In 2010, it no longer does that. I now have to rely on the dashed border to know where the active plot area is/was (checked 'display printable area' in options>display tab) which I personally don't really like using.
How to changes the settings for the "Square Area" in mapcheck's closure summary. When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.

I need to determine whether an area intersects with another area.The left case can be easily determined by Polyline.IntersectWith(Polyline...).But in the right case, the two polygons intersect/overlap each other while polylines do not intersect.
What would be the efficient way to determine the right case polygons are intersecting polygons?
After selecting the area type tool, I try to click and drag but I get an error message: You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text inside a path. This worked before but I must have screwed something up.Â

I'm trying to crop an image but when I use the marquee tool, it keeps jumping to different spots when I drag the corner. I recently had troubles with my computer mouse in that it was double-clicking faster than humanly possible and wouldn't allow me to highlight anything. I believe I have fixed the mouse problems because everything that I was having difficulty with before has been fixed - just not in Photoshop. I was wondering if it could be a problem with the program. I hadn't encountered this problem before anything was wrong with my mouse. As for the settings I'm using, feather is set to 0px and the style is normal.

I come unstuck right after clicking on the Add Mask icon. In the tutorial the mask appears with a black/white checkered edge. As the commentary says, "You can tell when the mask is selected by the dotted border."
Well no matter what I do I do not get that dotted border, not when I click on the mask, double click, right click. (Nor do I get the checkered border when I click on the Layer icon. Both the layer and mask have plain white borders.)
I can't get to a Refine Mask option, only Refine Edge. When I try to improve the selection it looks as though I'm using an eraser tool at about 20% opacity, it just gets steadily more transparent. So how do I get the mask selected?
Usually when I want to work on a different layer, I will select the layer in the layers panel first, or alternatively hold down ctrl and left click on the image in my actual design that's on the layer I wish to change to. However I must have done "something" because now no matter what layer I am on, if I click on a part of my design that's on a different layer to which I am working on, it will automatically select this image and change to this layer. This is highly annoying because every time I am trying to edit something or move something around I suddenly find I am on a different layer again!
I'm not sure how I did this or how to change it back. When I started this design a few days ago it was working normally.
I can't get Ctrl + Alt + ~ keyboard short cut to work which selects the highlights in an image. The problem is that on my keyboard I have to press Alt Gr to make ~ so can't use Ctrl + Alt + ~ . How can I change the short cut? I know that you can select the highlights by "Select -> Color Range.. -> Highlights" but the result is not as soft as with the short cut. Are there any other ways to select the highlights?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI edited a .jpeg in Photoshop, and removed the baground. I have a picture of a snowflake. It is on a blue rectangular background. I ONLY ant the snowflake in Publisher, so I edited the picture in Photoshop and now I have JUST the snowflake with softened edges in Photoshop. But when I go to paste it into Publishe, I always get an image with a white rectagular background, which defeats the purpose of the editing in the first place.. How do I get JUST the snowflake layer to paste into the flyer?

I can't select the original pic I created, it only selects the whole image. I can select the parts that I just added to the pic but I can't fill it with colour?
I want to alter a simple image from one color to another. The image is a gif image and I want to change it to color code #EF8216. Should be simple enough but when I type that in it gives me a color close to that but not that color (even though it says it is #EF8216). I have used CatchColor to test this and PhotoShop CS is not selecting the right color. I have tried using different ways of selecting the same color but none work. I need the color to match with part of my web site which is using #EF8216. When I use the bucket and save it, you can tell the diffence very easily with the naked eye.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having issues selecting my layers in CS2. The first thing I noticed is that i'm not able to select more than one unless I put them in a folder. The second issue, new tonight as far as i can tell, happens when i'm selecting a layer in the image by clicking on the graphic and and it doesn't select the one i'm on but rather a layer that is turned off in a folder above. Does anyone know if there is something i can do to reset my layer properties?
