Photoshop :: Unable To Scale Shape Layers Layer Mask Independent From Shape
Sep 25, 2012In Photoshop CS6, when you have a shape layer with a layer mask, and the two are not linked together, and the layer mask is selected, you should be able to scale the layer mask independently of the shape. What actually happens is the shape gets scaled and the layer mask stays untouched. In fact, even if you option-click on the layer mask to show the mask by itself, and then try to scale it, you still end up scaling the shape instead of the mask. Even if you go as far as to make a pixel selection of the layer mask and attempt to scale the pixels, the shape still gets scaled and the layer mask still stays put! Unbelievable!
This works correctly in CS4, but not in CS6 (don't know about CS5).

Nov 13, 2013All of a sudden when I save a psd there are no layers when I returned thist AM on any of the saves I made yesterday. They appear to be all merged layer saved as a psd. I have also been having a problem that when I try to save as - say a jpeg the above option such as iff (which is above jpg on the list) will come up instead, so I have to type in the jpg command. This anamoly starts on BMP.

Apr 9, 2012I'm using Photoshop CS5 for Mac, and when I try to save files as TGA or GIF, the Layers option is not available and the result is a flattened, single layer.
• Files I am working with are 8bit RGB.
• Photoshop is set to 32bit, not 64bit.
• There are no extra channels other than RGB.
• Switching files to indexed color doesn't work because it asks to merge all layers.
• I can open Gif files containing layers, but I can't then Save or Save As with layers.

Photoshop :: Actions Save As For Individual Layers
Aug 25, 2012how to make an action that can export individual layers within a PS document and rename each layers in the process.
I have set up a 320 x 180px canvas and have 'Placed' in about 20 images that all need to be exported with the Save for Web option.
Problem is, when I set the action to Save for Web and choose the destination, Photoshop names my newly exported image as the document's title (for example, 320x180_Canvas.jpg). But as soon as I try to make it move on to the next layer, it will automatically replace the first exported image with the new one, renaming it the same way, and so on and so on for the next 2 layers...
So essentially, I can only export one layer at a time - unless I make an action to Save for Web for individual documents and not layers (so instead of having one document with 20 layers, I have 20 documents with one layer)...
I must be missing a crucial point here.

Oct 19, 2013I am unable to save a completed project as a jpg file even after carefully merging the layers. The only way I can do that appears to be to use Save for Web - and I do not want to compress the images as web images. Also, in Elements 9 I could open a PSE file in layers and continue to edit - in 12 I cannot do that. I'm really very discouraged and wish I had my Elements 9 back.

Sep 4, 2013I downloaded a .psd file that is a catalog mockup. The document contains a smart object that looks like a catalog lying on a table top and I want to take my catalog art and place it in this smart object so that it looks like I've taken a nice photograph of my design work. That is the easy part!
What I want to do now is duplicate that smart object, put it underneath the original so it is peeking out and tilt it a bit. Then I want to put the back side of the catalog art on it so that it now looks like I've got both the front and back showing. Only problem I keep running into is that now when I click on the 2nd, duplicated smart object and put the different art (back of catalog) on it, it updates the original, first smart object that I want to show the front of the catalog.
Basically I want the two smart objects to not link and update each other when they are in the same document. I can't find anything online so far and am running out of time. I even tried calling Adobe and that WAS A MESS.

May 13, 2008I have a psd file with lots and lots of separate layers. I want to export only some of these layers as individual image files. I am aware of the Export Layers to Files option under the Files>Scripts menu. However there are some issues I have had with this. One, this exports every single layer in addition to some random white backgrounds. Two, when it exports a layer to an image, the image is not the exact size of the layer, rather the size of the whole psd canvas.
Third, there is no option to save as a .png file. Finally, sometimes it has trouble with a layer name and just cannot save it at all. So basically, I am looking for a way to save individual layers in a single .psd file as images, with the image sizes being the same size as actual layers. And preferably to be able to save them as .png files.

I've tried uninstalling, resetting preferences, and reducing the file size, but when trying to save a GIF, all I get is a frozen screen that says "Export: Save for Web and Devices". The screen looks like it's trying to save, but never does. I've made much larger GIFs with no trouble at all, but I can't even make one with 5 frames now.

I realize if I want to rotate the pattern I'd need to convert it to a smart object, but if I only need to adjust the pattern location there must be some way to do that without moving the vector mask along with it. A traditional layer shows the vector and raster mask layer with a lock icon, but fill pattern layers are different for some reason.

Nov 16, 2013Basically I am making a new pattern of stars, so I created a 1000 by 1000 document, filled with black, added noise, then added an adjustment layer to thin out the noise and make it look like stars in space. It looks great!
How to save it without the effect changing. I tried flattening the image, and it messed up how I wanted it to look. I tried merging visible, that didn't work. I tried just saving it as a PNG, like I do with all my projects, but that didn't work. And defining a pattern did the exact same thing. I just want to have what I physically see on the screen save as is so I can use it with other things.

Nov 10, 2012I am a Creative Cloud member and I have been using PS CS6 for several months with no problems. I have been using previous versions of PS for many years and have never had this problem. PS CS6 suddenly will not allow me to save any images. I get a message saying that either another application is using the file, or that I do not have permission to save it in which case I should allow permission in "Get info".
I have checked under "get info" and the image is not locked. I have tried saving it as an administrator also... I have even tried saving it to many other files on my computer with no luck. There is no other application running on my system which could be using the file. I have tried saving Jpegs, Tiffs, and PSD documents, and none of them will save, whether I perform minor adjustments on the file or whether I perform many adjustments.
I use a mac and I am running OS 10.7.5. I recently started using a Wacom tablet and installed that software. I also installed some Photoshop filters that came with it. I uninstalled the filters because I did not like them. I have checked in the plug-in folders to see if any lingered there and where causing a conflict but the plug-in folder is empty. The other thing I did recently was I removed all of the cookies from my Chrome browser but I can't see how this would affect Photoshop. I have checked for updates using the adobe application manager and have updated everything.

Aug 6, 2013I have layers for different possible end picture effects. eg text in different colors some of it on slopes etc. I would like to send the client a few different choices without having to flatten or "merg visible" layers. If I do that then I loose the possibility of changes that the client might want.
