Dec 19, 2008I am trying to paint in photoshop using a mouse and I realized that I can not make the mouse do what I wanted it to do. For example the mouse makes my brush strokes too jerky and I don't get smooth lines and the textures don't come out right either. Is the mouse a good tool for painting in photoshop or should I go with something else?

Photoshop :: Painting / Blending UV Seams Using 3D Paint Tool In CS4
Mar 5, 2012I am having a tough time blending seams on 3d objects in CS4. I create textures for 3d figures used in Poser, and Photoshop is my preferred 2d painting tool. Sometime ago, I bought CS4 pro thinking that the 3d paint feature would enhance my workflow when developing textures.
Unfortunately, I find the capabilities of CS4 to be somewhat rudimentary at best, so I am stuck using Deep Paint 3 to do blending. For example, when I try to paint over a UV seam with 3d paint on a wavefront .obj model the seam will not take paint. When I paint over the seam, a stripe is left several pixels wide - whats up with this? Do I really need to go back to the2d texture map to blend my seams/edges? This seems somewhat useless as I originally bought CS4 to improve my workflow for blending edges and maps together. Is there a workaround that will allow the paint to actually be applied to cover the edges / seams, and preferably a number of pixels beyond?
Another thing I noticed is that the blur/sharpen/smudge brushes do not work to blend edges either, in fact, when I try to smudge across an edge, I just contaminate image with stuff beyond the edge from the texture map. - if the pixel just beyond the edge is black, smudging just drags some black into my image. Is this really how this is supposed to work? Even using a normal brush seems to cause contamination too.
below is a simple example of the painting problem on a simple cylinder I loaded. The original texture map I was painting on was gray.. to demo the problem, I flooded with red, which left a gray line at the seam. then went to a green paint and and did a couple of strokes with a brush. You can see that even simple brush strokes dragged some gray into my image.
Photoshop :: Smudge Tool Stuck On (finger Painting)?
Mar 13, 2012I was coloring skin textures on a drawing using a spatter brush with flow at 25%. Then i switched over to the blur tool to smooth it out. it was ok.. but not quite what i was looking for, so i switched to the smudge tool. Using that tool with the "sample all layers" box checked, made it look really nice-- so i drew some freckles on the face and the smudge tool really blended them into the skin without making them look blotchy.
So here's the problem: I clicked on the "finger paint" box to see what other effect it would give but it seemed to pick the foreground colors and smear it across the drawing. I didn't like it so i unchecked the box. it was still smearing across the drawing. so i checked and unchecked again... nothing. I searched the internet and all i could find was if any weird behavior arises and persists, restart Photoshop, and while its booting up, hold Ctrl, Alt & Shift to clean out the Preferences. So i did. Same thing.
How to get this tool to function as it was initially. The smudge tool seems to be 'stuck' on the "finger paint" option or feature no matter if the box is checked or unchecked.

He has used Buzz, as have I, to change photos into watercolor like images, now defunct and taken over by Topaz software, who now market Simplify in place of BUZZ.
After running the filter, he has added brush strokes to add texture without altering any color—just adding a texture looking like impasto or thick brush strokes.
I have searched everywhere and view lots of video but cannot find a technique to get the result I want.
I am sure there is way to do this, probably with brushes in CS6 and unable to find or create a way to achieve this effect.
Photoshop :: How To Remove Arrow Pointer In Painting Tool Circle
Apr 9, 2012I'm running Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in Windows 7 Virtual XP mode, since the program won't run in Win7 64-bit mode. It used to run fine in 32-bit mode. It runs OK in the virtual XP mode, but I find that the circle tool in the painting or clone stamp functions always has an arrowhead in the center of the circle. It never used to, just the circle for painting or cloning. How do I get rid of it? Changing the settings in the Preferences menu does not work. Also, the virtual mode doesn't seem to allow updating program files, although it updates XP files. I tried to download a Photoshop update file. There was a prompt asking where it should go. But when I selected a place, and clicked OK, the Next button did not come on.

Nov 16, 2012So normally when you hold the space key and drag, it just moves the canvas, but every now and then, seemingly randomly, it zooms way out and shows a little box which is the size and shape of the area of canvas I was previously looking at. If I move the box and let go of space, it zooms to that location, but all I wanted was to move normally. I don't think I've ever wanted the zoom out, move, then zoom back in behavior.

Oct 14, 2012How do i reduce the color index of a vibrant painting in successive stages (specifically from 100->50->25->16->8) in order to (hopefully) maintain good quality as its palette limits down, instead of just subjecting the orig to 'Color Index: 8' and get horrible results. What are common methods in doing it: a) with the entire image at once b) using specific selections of particular color areas at a time (a little section of oranges here, a little area of greens there) and then 'mixing' the results with a reduction done to the whole image and c) common methods, tricks, etc. working in 'reverse' by reducing an image's color manually using filters, br/contr., hue/sat. toggles, etc. I only have Ps7 and am not too skilled in using layer blending modes, gradients, paths. I get satisfactory results so far just using mostly Normal layer blend and adjustment layers using custom-mask selections.

Sep 3, 2013I have the brush and the layer set to 100% opacity and the layer is set to normal but it's not coming out normal.. I choose a pink color and stroke somewhere and it comes off as a highlighter yellow and looks like it's about 20% opacity in other places on the layer the color doesn't even show up.. I take a pink color and color over a black and it turns red.. and other places it's completely normal.Also i can erase a color and then paint in that spot but if i don't erase first it won't let me paint there.
Btw I've tried checking my layers brush settings and opacity all fine. I'm using photoshop CS6

It seems as though illustrator responds to the fact that I am drawing strokes only by redefining the fill value to be 'none'.

Feb 8, 2012I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7 (32 bit) and installed CS5 on it. Everything seems to be fine, but using my wacom intuos 3 tablet i found that when making curved brush strokes every so often it came out as a straight line, the straight line being where i start and finish the curve (see pic below. The S stroke is what should happen. The straight line is what happens every so often with the same motion).
At first i thought it was the tablet and reinstalled the drivers to no effect. Since then i've discovered that the same thing occurs with the mouse. The problem occurs once every five or so strokes (i'm doing digital art, so there's a lot of strokes). It never happens if i do a stroke slowly, but will almost always happen if i do a fast stroke.
Testing other painting programs i've found them all to be fine (i grabbed trials of open Canvas, Sai and Gimp and had no such issues). However, getting out my old copy of CS2, i found it had the same problem. The problem does appear to be Photoshop + my computer based. I've since reinstalled them both but had no success there either. (My computer is a intel i3 btw with 8gb of ram, so i wouldn't believe it to be a performance issue)

Aug 25, 2008I use Win Pro with 3 RAM, lots of storage on 3 discs plus an external drive. Recently my 'Bridge" began to act strange. It wouldn't open up from the photoshop. Then the top half of the screen wouldn't show and everything behaved very stubbornly. So today I tried to reload the CS3, etc. I successfully loaded only one component but not the Adobe CS3, or the 'Shared Components'. I was informed that the original installation had moved for each of the components - the second one saying something about 'bridge start meeting. Etc. I have no idea how this came about, To correct it I am wondering if I simply removed the entire CS3 Systems,Namely delete them. Then I would install them again??? If this makes sense will i likely be able to retain the folders in the CS3. By the way the CS3 is still working apparently okay.
