Photoshop :: When Painting With Hand Tool / It Zooms Way Out Instead Of Just Moving Canvas
Nov 16, 2012
So normally when you hold the space key and drag, it just moves the canvas, but every now and then, seemingly randomly, it zooms way out and shows a little box which is the size and shape of the area of canvas I was previously looking at. If I move the box and let go of space, it zooms to that location, but all I wanted was to move normally. I don't think I've ever wanted the zoom out, move, then zoom back in behavior.
The other day the hand tool stopped moving the layer that is active. The spacebar still changes the current cursor to the hand tool but when I click and drag nothing moves. I can still select the move tool and move the layer but it's like hitting a speed bump in your work flow.
I've clicked though the PS options but haven't been able to find a "move tool function the way it's supposed to" on/off switch. Could anyone offer any insight?
I tried to install the latest pacth but that doesn't fix my problem. (photoshop CS5 12.04 MAC) As i said in the title: when I'm under hand tool mode or when I hold the spacebar down to get the hand tool, the image mouves around and just continue to glide as if it wears ice skates!
When I try and move a corner of my open document with the hand tool to the center of the document window in CS5 when zoomed out, it stops at the edges and will not move inward any further. It is sometimes more convenient to be able to work on a zoomed in corner of a document when it is centered in the document window. If I go to the rotate tool and set a slight angle, I can then move the document anywhere in the window at any magnification! Is there a setting that is locking the document at the edge of the screen when zoomed out?
The CS6 mixer brush stops painting and turns into a hand icon, with only the index finger out, when I paint near the top left of my screen. It's about 3 inches from the left and 2 inches from the top.
I don't have this problem in CS5.5/CS5.1 or CS5 . what the hand icon with only index finger out is for? It's not the move tool icon. I should also add that I'm using Win7 and a Cintiq. and I should add that the standard brushes don't have this problem in CS6.
I was just wondering for photoshop how much pixelsfor canvas size everybody is used to using?
I use photoshop (previously 7, CS3 in office, recently upgraded to CC) to draw comic strips, and quite often I just keep expanding the canvas vertically as I draw more panels. Now, of course common sense would dictate that the larger the file the slower your photoshop gets. I just noticed today that one of my files is getting sluggish, and yup, the height has gotten to 14000 pixels. Better crop that thing before it gets to the point I can't even open the file anymore. So I was just wondering if there was any rule around as to how big a file can get before it's too big to operate on photoshp.
I'm trying to clean up an image for a friend. He's a painter and his photo shows all the hatch marks of the canvas. I have tried noise removal but it doesn't remove enough. I have tried despeckle, destripe, deinterlace and antilais. The option that works the best is the oilfy filter but to achieve a good result I lose details in his painting.
I tried to do heal selection but it tells me Error: eval: unbound variable: plug-in-resynthesizer. When i go to the registry i find resynthesizer scripts URL.... I install the scripts but still get the message.
Any other tool or script that will be useful besides healing sections of the photo with the healing brush.
When I add a image to my background my background shrinks to the top left hand corner of canvas. I have been trying to do this every night for a week now and held out posting until I gave up. Also when I try to paste an image I get a message saying I don't have enough memory (I have 20 GB of memory free). I tried to find Pleska plugin for adding from file but could not find it.
I'm having trouble with my zoom tool. If I have multiple Photoshop windows open, when I go to either zoom in or out of the top window... ALL the other windows mirror what's happening to the top window.
I can choose any tool either by menu or by shortcut, but only the hand icon remains visible and active. Reopen Photoshop and rebooting mac doesn't work, only solution I have found is: Repair Disk Permissions.
my entire system locks up.It seems to work fine at the start, but it will lock up on me on random. I tried finding out what the exact problem was, and it seems that moving about the canvas in any way always seems to be the cause. I also often get this while I try to save, in the saving process I would move my canvas around, and it would lock up on me. Thus making my .psd-file corrupt/unreadable.
I tried different methods to approach this, but no luck. One is installing the latest video driver, but it already seemed to be up-to-date. Second would be disabling certain plugins in Photoshop, like the FastCore and the MMXCore ones.
I don't know why, but PS is a BEAR to deal with when drawing out shapes up close (to get pixel perfect position)
As I draw it I have to move the cursor "off the screen" to get it to start creating the object while it's moving the canvas over.
But it moves SOOOOO slow! I mess with 1400px wide images and I'm zoomed in quite a bit, and it seems to move by 5 pixels a second. Is there some trick to speeding this up? There's only 20 or so layers.
I am trying to paint in photoshop using a mouse and I realized that I can not make the mouse do what I wanted it to do. For example the mouse makes my brush strokes too jerky and I don't get smooth lines and the textures don't come out right either. Is the mouse a good tool for painting in photoshop or should I go with something else?
In Indesign CS6 using Mountain Lion, the hand tool appears and I can't select or work with any other tool. All I can do is move the document around. After trying the space bar and other key commands I restarted and it worked for a while. Then it happened again. I work on a Macbook pro, so when I removed the mouse and worked only with the trackpad there was no change. When I quit and reopened, no change. I then deleted prefs and restarted and it worked, but it's been happening from time to time. Any other fix without restarting or deleting prefs.
i have recently upgraded my computer with a new mb, 8gb ram, clean install of vista 64 bit and cs4. after initial problems with screen lag i installed a new graphics card and all seems to be working fine. problem is using the hand tool. i was accustomed in cs3 to comparing two files side by side, let's say the same image with two different levels of sharpening. i was able to view both images at 100% and using the hand tool move each image independently. this made comparing particular areas of the images easy. in cs4 when i open two images and use the hand tool it moves both images at the same time.
i'm working on something that the hand tool is constantly selected? You know the white hand tool (H). If I try and select any other tool..I can't select it as the hand tool wont change
My cursor is showing the hand tool no matter what tool is selected. And the tools of course do not work then. PS restart does not help, I have to restart the PC (Vista 32 Ultimate).
I read about this problem many time in the web. Why isn`t there any solution? Even CS4 11.01 has this bug.
way to use the hand tool (or spacebar) even if the entire image is visible, like you could do in previous versions. One might wonder why you would want to pan if you can already see the entire image. This comes up when one of your layers is bigger than the main image. If you try to Transform the layer, but the transform handles are off the edge of the screen, you need the hand tool. Otherwise you have to zoom out even further to get at the handles.
My hand tool quit working. I looked in the forums. I've closed all browsers, restarted, rebooted, and removed the prefs.psp file. Not sure what to do now?
I have just purchased Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium. In Photoshop, the hand tool is not working. The hand icon shows but does not pan the open image.
Have been working on some images over several days, when suddenly I can no longer change the tool. It seems locked on the hand tool even thought I haven't even used the hand tool and I don't know what its for...
I start up the program (Photoshop CS) the hand tool is selected. No matter what I try I can not select any other tools at all. I've been trying to self teach myself this program for about 6 months and I've never chosen to use the hand tool at all, so I never intentionally set anything to make it default or anything like that.
In Photoshop CS3, the hand tool is the only tool I can now use: no matter what tool I click, the hand tool stays, nothing else happens. I tried restarting Photoshop and that didn't work.
I just got my new computer, which is much better then my last comp. It Had Vista Pre-installed un like my last computer that had XP. Photo shop runs perfectly fine until I use the Hand tool to move about the image. After that the Brushes lags a good half second behind where i make the mark. If I minimize then maximize photo shop the problem is gone. But i Use the hand tool ALL the time and minimizing and maximizing repeatedly is not a viable solution.
