I am trying to paint in photoshop using a mouse and I realized that I can not make the mouse do what I wanted it to do. For example the mouse makes my brush strokes too jerky and I don't get smooth lines and the textures don't come out right either. Is the mouse a good tool for painting in photoshop or should I go with something else?

I'm trying to use a gradient to paint with but I don't see the option in my tool options for any painting tool.

I am having a tough time blending seams on 3d objects in CS4. I create textures for 3d figures used in Poser, and Photoshop is my preferred 2d painting tool. Sometime ago, I bought CS4 pro thinking that the 3d paint feature would enhance my workflow when developing textures.
Unfortunately, I find the capabilities of CS4 to be somewhat rudimentary at best, so I am stuck using Deep Paint 3 to do blending. For example, when I try to paint over a UV seam with 3d paint on a wavefront .obj model the seam will not take paint. When I paint over the seam, a stripe is left several pixels wide - whats up with this? Do I really need to go back to the2d texture map to blend my seams/edges? This seems somewhat useless as I originally bought CS4 to improve my workflow for blending edges and maps together. Is there a workaround that will allow the paint to actually be applied to cover the edges / seams, and preferably a number of pixels beyond?

Another thing I noticed is that the blur/sharpen/smudge brushes do not work to blend edges either, in fact, when I try to smudge across an edge, I just contaminate image with stuff beyond the edge from the texture map. - if the pixel just beyond the edge is black, smudging just drags some black into my image. Is this really how this is supposed to work? Even using a normal brush seems to cause contamination too.

below is a simple example of the painting problem on a simple cylinder I loaded. The original texture map I was painting on was gray.. to demo the problem, I flooded with red, which left a gray line at the seam. then went to a green paint and and did a couple of strokes with a brush. You can see that even simple brush strokes dragged some gray into my image.
In the usual painting, there is no mix color of brush, will be very difficult, how to solve?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was coloring skin textures on a drawing using a spatter brush with flow at 25%. Then i switched over to the blur tool to smooth it out. it was ok.. but not quite what i was looking for, so i switched to the smudge tool. Using that tool with the "sample all layers" box checked, made it look really nice-- so i drew some freckles on the face and the smudge tool really blended them into the skin without making them look blotchy.

So here's the problem: I clicked on the "finger paint" box to see what other effect it would give but it seemed to pick the foreground colors and smear it across the drawing. I didn't like it so i unchecked the box. it was still smearing across the drawing. so i checked and unchecked again... nothing. I searched the internet and all i could find was if any weird behavior arises and persists, restart Photoshop, and while its booting up, hold Ctrl, Alt & Shift to clean out the Preferences. So i did. Same thing.

How to get this tool to function as it was initially. The smudge tool seems to be 'stuck' on the "finger paint" option or feature no matter if the box is checked or unchecked.
I'm running Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in Windows 7 Virtual XP mode, since the program won't run in Win7 64-bit mode. It used to run fine in 32-bit mode. It runs OK in the virtual XP mode, but I find that the circle tool in the painting or clone stamp functions always has an arrowhead in the center of the circle. It never used to, just the circle for painting or cloning. How do I get rid of it? Changing the settings in the Preferences menu does not work. Also, the virtual mode doesn't seem to allow updating program files, although it updates XP files. I tried to download a Photoshop update file. There was a prompt asking where it should go. But when I selected a place, and clicked OK, the Next button did not come on.Â
View 10 Replies View RelatedSo normally when you hold the space key and drag, it just moves the canvas, but every now and then, seemingly randomly, it zooms way out and shows a little box which is the size and shape of the area of canvas I was previously looking at. If I move the box and let go of space, it zooms to that location, but all I wanted was to move normally. I don't think I've ever wanted the zoom out, move, then zoom back in behavior.

I tried changing the color to a pink, but all I got was a lighter shade of grey.

I'm trying to make the edge of this image like the colors on a soap bubble, I've looked at tutorials for doing soap bubbles. It's not usually included in it. Sort of a blurred shiny transparent coloring if that describes it at all.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a project open in a 3d view to paint on a 3d mesh. Everything is fine until I save, close, and reopen. When I open the file to resume I can no longer paint on the model. I can still go to the UV (flat) view for any of the materials on the model but I can't paint on the mesh in 3d view.

I can open a new 3d layer, re-import the mesh, save and reapply all the previously painted texture to the new mesh layer and keep working but this seems not a very efficient work-flow.

I don't think many 3d pros actually use this piece of PS for texturing.This is the first time I've tried the 3d functionality of PS so I may just be overlooking something.
I was painting on top of a picture I took, with the Art History brush one day adding an oil painting look to it (I was working on a new layer and not the layer with my photo on it), at end of the day I saved my work I had done so far and quit the program. The next day, I went to continue my work. When I loaded my work, added a new layer for a new section of the painting I wanted to do. The Art History just painted in white instead of adding the oil painting effect I got the previous day. I picked the same brush presets and the colors on my palette were set to the default colors (the way they were the day before). so that I can continue on with my painting?

I however have no idea how to do this short of heading at it with a the paintbrush tool. I'm creating a 3d Avatar (human model) and getting tired of fixing seams when applying textures to my UV space. I HATE seams around the hairline, sides of shirt and pants, etc. Clean up can either be a pain or it looks bad.
I need a Photoshop plugin were you can paint in your UV areas and it will automatically "tile" your brush strokes so that there are no seams on your 3d model. Is there one out there?
Were you load up your UV layout in photoshop, define the UV areas and paint away without having to worry about seams when I apply it to my 3d model.
Is there such a plugin/script for Photoshop?
Who all has one? Who doesn't. How necessary are they for someone who uses photoshop everyday? What is the going price for a basic tablet.

I'm trying to follow the instructions in the photoshop manual but it almost seems as though they missed something (but it's probably me who's missing something). To create a pattern, it says to use the rectangle marquee tool to make a selection, setting feather to 0, choose edit -> define pattern, give it a name, and hit OK. So when I do that, nothing seems to happen after I hit OK. If I try to use the paint bucket tool, I still get the same monotonous color. How do I actually use the pattern I just created with the paint bucket tool?

i've sort of hit a road block. smudging colors together isn't getting it done for me anymore.
I am painting with the brush tool, (using the brackets to adjust the diameter of the brush) when the screen diameter of the brush becomes larger than about 60 pixels the cursor begins to disappear on the bottom right. More of the cursor disappears as the brush diameter increases.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to learn how to spray paint my car for the concept car contest... I just tried spraypainting at 10% opacity and 45% flow.. It seem to be working, I'm able to build layers tones ok..?. Are there norm or standard setting to get the best out of the spraypaint tool? Maybe a brush setting something? Or a mode? Normal / screen something.
I'm sneaking up on this spraypaint stuff,.. but if somebody can head me in the right direction, I'll officially thank them in my acceptance speech..
