Photoshop :: Painting The Selection
Feb 21, 2004Is there a way to create selection just the same way like you may paint with brush (instead to draw with color to "draw with selection")?

View 4 RepliesI want use a layer mask to paint onto a selected portion of my picture. But the selected portion was obtained via a channel mask for highly detailed accuracy. I haven't been able to get the channel mask to work with the layer mask.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm using phothsop and i'm trying to give an existing picture a border.
what i do:
ctrl-a
select->border->2px
edit->fill->forground colour(white)
the 2px white border appears ok, however, the border goes beyond the selected area (dotted lines) by about 1px. The extra, unwanted part of the border was a semi transparent white border.
I've noticed that in the past, there have been times where i've selected a part of the picture and used the brush tool to paint in that specific part, but i always ended up painting a bit beyond the selection outline with a semi-transparent colour
I'm trying to make the edge of this image like the colors on a soap bubble, I've looked at tutorials for doing soap bubbles. It's not usually included in it. Sort of a blurred shiny transparent coloring if that describes it at all.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask.
Â
The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far.
Â
I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?
If you look closely in the attached picture, there is a spot of light blue on the player's helmet, that looks like a mistake (think it should look like the grass behind it)...though it actually may be part of his helmet.
Â
Regardless, I'd like to take it out. My idea was to select the blue with the quick selection tool, then bring that selection out to the grass, select the grass with that size/shape of selection, copy/paste and then bring the grass selection into the blue part so it looks like grass in what was the blue part.
Â
The problem is I don't seem to be able to move the selection without taking the blue with it (so it's not an empty selection and therefore can't select a piece of the grass.)
I have Photoshop CS5 on a Mac OS 10.7.4 My problem is that when I am using curves or a slider, my selection does not stay in the same place. For example, I chose the number 8 on a slider, after I release my selection it will either go one number after or before my selected number. I have had this problem since I got my computer, December 2011, but it has only recently started to frustrated me because of having to use Photoshop a little more than I usually do.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a project open in a 3d view to paint on a 3d mesh. Everything is fine until I save, close, and reopen. When I open the file to resume I can no longer paint on the model. I can still go to the UV (flat) view for any of the materials on the model but I can't paint on the mesh in 3d view.
Â
I can open a new 3d layer, re-import the mesh, save and reapply all the previously painted texture to the new mesh layer and keep working but this seems not a very efficient work-flow.
Â
I don't think many 3d pros actually use this piece of PS for texturing.This is the first time I've tried the 3d functionality of PS so I may just be overlooking something.
I was painting on top of a picture I took, with the Art History brush one day adding an oil painting look to it (I was working on a new layer and not the layer with my photo on it), at end of the day I saved my work I had done so far and quit the program. The next day, I went to continue my work. When I loaded my work, added a new layer for a new section of the painting I wanted to do. The Art History just painted in white instead of adding the oil painting effect I got the previous day. I picked the same brush presets and the colors on my palette were set to the default colors (the way they were the day before). so that I can continue on with my painting?

Any good way to make cartoon characters using photoshop.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a new truck that I'm building and I've seen some places that have some kind of javascript that allows them to just select different colors for the vehicle. I however have no idea how to do this short of heading at it with a the paintbrush tool. I'd appreciate insight into this and if not is there a possibility that someone has a single color photo of a 96 s-10 pickup that I could use the paint bucket on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to paint in photoshop using a mouse and I realized that I can not make the mouse do what I wanted it to do. For example the mouse makes my brush strokes too jerky and I don't get smooth lines and the textures don't come out right either. Is the mouse a good tool for painting in photoshop or should I go with something else?

I'm creating a 3d Avatar (human model) and getting tired of fixing seams when applying textures to my UV space. I HATE seams around the hairline, sides of shirt and pants, etc. Clean up can either be a pain or it looks bad.
I need a Photoshop plugin were you can paint in your UV areas and it will automatically "tile" your brush strokes so that there are no seams on your 3d model. Is there one out there?
Were you load up your UV layout in photoshop, define the UV areas and paint away without having to worry about seams when I apply it to my 3d model.
Is there such a plugin/script for Photoshop?
Who all has one? Who doesn't. How necessary are they for someone who uses photoshop everyday? What is the going price for a basic tablet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to paint with a pattern I created but I'm having trouble doing so. I'm trying to follow the instructions in the photoshop manual but it almost seems as though they missed something (but it's probably me who's missing something). To create a pattern, it says to use the rectangle marquee tool to make a selection, setting feather to 0, choose edit -> define pattern, give it a name, and hit OK. So when I do that, nothing seems to happen after I hit OK. If I try to use the paint bucket tool, I still get the same monotonous color. How do I actually use the pattern I just created with the paint bucket tool?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been seeing 'OPT' (over processing technique) around flickr, but I still don't get how it really differs from HDR, or how to pull it off in photoshop. I'm already familiar with lucisart and photomatix (but not well versed with either), and neither seem to be able to pull it off.

I am painting with the brush tool, (using the brackets to adjust the diameter of the brush) when the screen diameter of the brush becomes larger than about 60 pixels the cursor begins to disappear on the bottom right. More of the cursor disappears as the brush diameter increases.

I'm trying to create a oil painting feel to a project I'm doing. Before I start I wanted to ask around first about the best brush to use, or a brush that I have to play around with the presets to create a good effect for the project. Any tips for this type of look is welcomed. As a reference point I'm using a jpg of planet Earth for this project if it helps out in describing the effect I might come out with.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to learn how to spray paint my car for the concept car contest... I just tried spraypainting at 10% opacity and 45% flow.. It seem to be working, I'm able to build layers tones ok..?. Are there norm or standard setting to get the best out of the spraypaint tool? Maybe a brush setting something? Or a mode? Normal / screen something.
I'm sneaking up on this spraypaint stuff,.. but if somebody can head me in the right direction, I'll officially thank them in my acceptance speech..
how to "drop out" the background from this photo (I have loads to do which are very similar). Thus far I have tried channel selections and the calculations tool + all the normal quick selection tools and I just cant get it to work without spending hours adjusting things. The end effect I need to achieve is a perfect white background without loosing any of the detail if possible. On a side note I have also tried taking the photo on blue, green, black and white backgrounds but due to the number of colours present in the products its just not working for me.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI created a layer mask that includes a person's face and a mask of a computer chip, so I can selectively paint parts of the chip onto his face, with the goal of making it seem as if the person is a robot. I am able to successfully create the mask and paint back from the mask, however, it does not look at all convincing. It just seems like the effect is sticking on the face.
Â
1. next steps to make it look more believable?
2. I'm playing with layer blending modes. Should I be selecting the image or its mask when applying the blending mode.
