I am going to trace some shape and need it have in dashed strokes and differently colored. When I want to use color options for strokes it doesnt work. How to color it?
View 3 RepliesI've got a bitmap shape that I want to do a vector dash for. I've figured out how to do it, but is this really the best way Create selection> work path > EDIT >define custom shape, create shape on layer and dash.
is there shortcut to avoid creating the custom shape?
Why is the first dash shorter than the rest?
When I preserve the dash like this The first dash doesn't start at the beginning of the path...
So I looked up how to reverse the path and found this [URL] but my object options don't have the "reverse path" option
EDIT: I just realized that changing the direction of the path wouldn't work because it would mess up when it's too close to another path (although I still would like to know how to flip the direction regardless).
When drawing 'strokes' in CS6 with brush, the `Fill` color will keep reverting back to 'None' no matter what I previously set it to. I'd like both fill and stroke color to retain their values as I previously set it, but it appears that fill color will retain value only if I draw shapes that do have a fill. It seems as though illustrator responds to the fact that I am drawing strokes only by redefining the fill value to be 'none'.

How do you make a straight vertical dashed (dotted) line?
Something about paths and holding down the shift key, but that doesn't do anything, no line shows and it doesn't like "snap" to a vertical position.
I'm trying to make a dotted line to be line a guide line for cutting when you print the image out on paper. Like the perforated line on a movie ticket or boarding pass.
I want to make a curved/ wavy dashed line, picture the trail behind of a bumble bee [my first picture is an example]. The closest thing I have gotten was that I downloaded the dpyplugins6.1 and used the wavy text using the '-----' dashes but instead of the dashes following the curved line they are all parallel and in a wavy fashion [my second picture is a example.]

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Photoshop brush, pencil and Clone strokes are smaller than the cursor, which makes it very difficult for accuracy. Don't know what made them change, but want the cursor and stroke to be the same.
I've tried different settings in the brush dialog box, with difference tip settings, etc, with no results. Also, tried different settings in Preferences / Cursor setting.
I'm making a spaceship texture and I got rivets, bolts, nuts, etc. brushes from here

Is it possible to "stamp" these brushes at regular intervals across a straight line? Instead of manually pressing them down one by one?

He has used Buzz, as have I, to change photos into watercolor like images, now defunct and taken over by Topaz software, who now market Simplify in place of BUZZ.
After running the filter, he has added brush strokes to add texture without altering any color—just adding a texture looking like impasto or thick brush strokes.
I have searched everywhere and view lots of video but cannot find a technique to get the result I want.
I am sure there is way to do this, probably with brushes in CS6 and unable to find or create a way to achieve this effect.
In the usual painting, there is no mix color of brush, will be very difficult, how to solve?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have exported a dashed line from some CAD software (KASEMAKE) as a PDF. When viewed in acrobat and zoomed in, you can clearly see the dashes. When opening in Illustrator it comes in as one solid line. Corel Draw opens it correctly too. I cannot find any import settings for bringing in a PDF in Illustrator. I have uploaded the PDF file to a dropbox so that people can see it. [URL].
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I define a dashed line, then go back to edit a new dash, the dash/gap settings must first be deleted. Is there a simple way to delete these numbers without selecting and deleting each one? I happen to be using CS5 but this feature has not changed since AI was introduce, if I can remember right.
I know I should save multiple dash "styles", but even stroke profiles are saved for quick reuse. Why not dashed lines?

Ive made some digital bunting in Illustrator using a triangle shape with a dashed line to make scalloped edged bunting. I want to fill the shape with a paper that I made. I used a clipping mask with has worked fine except for it doesnt fill the stroke which means the paper doesnt go into the the scalloped edges and its just a triangle shape.
Any work-arounds for this in Illustrator other than taking it into another suite application?

View 6 Replies View RelatedInDesign CS4 has a "Corner adjustment for dashed stroke" feature which allows corners of a dashed stroke to have the dash part instead of a gap or a small part of a dash. Interestingly, I cannot find this feature in Illustrator CS4. I believe it is included in Illustrator CS5.Is this feature indeed absent from Illustrator CS4?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am creating a stitched leather look, and am able to get the black dots under one of the white stitches, but cannot offset my dotted path put a hole under the opposite end of the white stitch. So that I have 2 holes for each stitch.
This makes one black dots every 5 pts
This is the length of my white stitch
The file we generated is on the right side of the image, in both PREVIEW and OUTLINE views. You can see that letters "I" in the logos are boxes and the bottom horizontal stripe is a filled box. In the art file they received, the capital letters "I" in the art and the horizontal box have become paths with DASHES applied.

The standard symbol for an intermittent stream on topographic maps is a a blue line, with long segments interrupted regularly with a series of three dots. I can create a dashed line interrupted by two dots, but there aren't enough boxes for me to specify the third dot.
I need to output dashed paths to a 3rd party device that will draw/cut those dash marks on material. I have found methods in the AI SDK that describe what the dash marks look like (ie GetPathStyle, etc).
But this requires me to perform all the calculations of where those dash marks actually appear along a path which Illustrator has already done (since it displays those dashes to the screen).
Is there a method(s) that already exists that I can call and it would return me the start and end points of each dash mark that appears on a path? I have started working on the code to do this but can see that it is going to get pretty involved and was hoping that this was already available in the sdk and I just missed it.
I'm self taught on Illustrator, so I occasionally come across something that's probably really basic, but I am totally stumped. I think this is one of those things. All of a sudden, some of my Illustrator files have a dashed line running vertically down the center of the page. I can manually delete the dashes, but what is this and surely, there's a better way to get rid of it?

I use a 27" monitor and prefer large thumbnails in my fill and stroke palette in the toolbar - but is there no way to make Illustrator "save" the settings when I change it to large thumbnails?

I can do all this separately (objects, then grid, then artboard) but it would be nicer to scale everything at once.
Is there a way to make the color picker in the toolbar bigger?
I've been using Illustrator for some time now and find this part of the software to be annoying as I frequently mis-click this tiny area and the switching between foreground and background color is easily mismanaged and you end up changing the colour of the one you didn't intend and then have to make two clicks to remedy that.
Do any other users find this to be a badly designed part of the software?Also, when in the colour creation dialogue the 'preview' tick can somehow be switched to on as default.
I can understand that there are situations where it might be better not to see your colour change in the document in real time, but to have to click this (again very small) tick box again and again feels like bad design.
I need to make a postscript file with one color but 2 different LPI's. Is the positbale in AI CS3?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have no problem dividing objects using the "divide" tool in the Pathfinder palette, but I was wondering if there was a way to divide brush strokes?
For example, let's say you wanted to paint three brush strokes right next to each other, but not overlapping. Is there a way to select all three strokes and then divide them so no one stroke resides over another, they would be completely separate of each other.
