View 3 RepliesI've recently picked up Illustrator CS5, when I save a file (or print) as a PostScript file. My aim is to convert the file to a PDF using Distiller and in the Print dialogue box, the PPD field in past versions says something along the lines of Adobe PDF 8.0. In CS5, I do not have the option to select that from the PPD drop down menu (Nor can I find the file to add to the list). Additionally, I can't make a 'custom sized pdf,' only preset paper sizes. I've had to resort to opening my files in CS3 to convert them to PostScript files. I forsee this becoming a problem once I start diving into some of Illustrator CS5's new features.
I get the feeling the program didn't install with an Adobe PDF plug-in and I can't seem to find a substitute online that isn't from 1999 (!). Is there a way to get that plug-in file that my copy of CS3 is using into my CS5?
I'm trying to print color separations as a Postscript file from Illustrator CS5 and the halftone areas keep showing up as grayscale instead of the specified frequency and angle. I've tried usiing multiple PPDs and options but I'm having no luck.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI require an equally spaced fine line shading in an extrusion. I will take you through my process and then get to the problem.
I create an object (usually curved text), extrude it and break the extrusion apart; then I use the fill tool and open fill color dialog, change to palettes and select black, 20%; next I click on options and select Postscript options, from there I select line and an angle and frequency. This produces exactly the fine line shading I need, when I print it on my postscript printer.
The problem is that when I save the file as an .eps or .ai file to send to another prepress, the screen in their file always show up as dots not lines. I have not been able to find a way around this, the other fill types use tiling and that does not produce the same consistent shading.
I have a postscript .PS file (not psd!) from my boss, which contains the cutter set-up for some packaging I am designing. I have no idea how to load the guides and margins into photoshop?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI produced a colour map and colour gradient legend as a postscript file (.ps) using generic mapping tools software running under linux. When I import this file into illustrator (in windows 8) the colour map is fine, but the colour gradient does not display properly. It appears as a bunch of white spaces and vertical colour bands of random colour. When I then try to export the file as a .pdf the colour gradient appears as solid blue. I've also tried producing a .pdf instead of .ps but it makes no difference.
It's worth noting that I have done this in the past with no problems. This particular problem first occurred a few months ago and is now persistent.
I'm working at a screen shop, printing .ps files for film. Most of the art is provided from the client on seperate artboards of varying size. In the print dialog box I select "custom" from media size options. This sets my page size to the size of the selected artboard. The problem is each page needs to be a different size so I am forced to print each page one at a time. Is there a way for illustrator to change the media size per artboard?

I use a 27" monitor and prefer large thumbnails in my fill and stroke palette in the toolbar - but is there no way to make Illustrator "save" the settings when I change it to large thumbnails?
I am going to trace some shape and need it have in dashed strokes and differently colored. When I want to use color options for strokes it doesnt work. How to color it?

I need to make a color wheel, like the attached, but with 24 segments. Start with a circle, obviously, and then what?
Is there a way to make the color picker in the toolbar bigger?
I've been using Illustrator for some time now and find this part of the software to be annoying as I frequently mis-click this tiny area and the switching between foreground and background color is easily mismanaged and you end up changing the colour of the one you didn't intend and then have to make two clicks to remedy that.
Do any other users find this to be a badly designed part of the software? Also, when in the colour creation dialogue the 'preview' tick can somehow be switched to on as default.
I can understand that there are situations where it might be better not to see your colour change in the document in real time, but to have to click this (again very small) tick box again and again feels like bad design.
I already have a document created in CS6, now I want to make the background color bleed to the edges of the document.
Is it a problem that I started the document already and now want to make it bleed to the edges?
Can Ill CS6 do a Trace on a photo and make them editable to change color?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAs you now can make EPS documents from photoshop and keep the vector shapes as vectors, it would be nice to be able to use old logos you have that are in eps or illustrator format and make shapes out of them so they also can be included in a Photoshop EPS.
But I can not see that there are any options to add eps ot illustrator files to the Shapes, and once a eps is opened in Photoshop it is rasterized.
how to convert eps files to Shapes?
get a solution on compressing the pdf file which is created by illustrator.
The case is, i got a pdf file and then i am using illustrator to edit it and then save as pdf.
After that, i found that the pdf file size is quiet large. Someone know how to make the file become smaller but not using those compress software such as winzip and etc.
How to make the grid (the file grid - not artwork) translucent. I'm working on icons, so I'm zoomed in very close, and I'd like to have a translucent grid over top of my artwork. An opaque grid is far too cumbersome and intrusive and I can't see my work, but don't want something totally transparent - I'd like to see it. Just maybe 10% translucency. Any better way to go about something similar?
View 6 Replies View RelatedEvery day at least a dozen times I print spot color separations for film through the print dialogue to pdf, and every single time I have to either print the spot colors one at a time, or open the multipage pdf in Acrobat and use the clunky extract page function to get separate files. Is there any way to just get it to print separate pdfs?
Then I have to rename each sep to have the color in the file name. If there was a way to automate that?
In Photoshop you can take a design, change the hue and make a total blue image a red one.
See the image below. This is an AI file. So what I want to do is just change it from any color I want like you can do in Photoshop. Is this possible?
When I save my AI file, it saves in the correct color scheme but when I go to look at it on a different computer, the color is off. The blues are greener etc.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a ps file in illustrator some objects change color when I move them and are displayed correctly in preview and Photoshop. Also the object seems to be duplicated. It should have the same and only the colors of the scale bar. In another file the image part is correct and the scale bar is incorrect.
