I require an equally spaced fine line shading in an extrusion. I will take you through my process and then get to the problem.
I create an object (usually curved text), extrude it and break the extrusion apart; then I use the fill tool and open fill color dialog, change to palettes and select black, 20%; next I click on options and select Postscript options, from there I select line and an angle and frequency. This produces exactly the fine line shading I need, when I print it on my postscript printer.
The problem is that when I save the file as an .eps or .ai file to send to another prepress, the screen in their file always show up as dots not lines. I have not been able to find a way around this, the other fill types use tiling and that does not produce the same consistent shading.
can i print from adobe illustrator cs 6 to a non postscript printer?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI produced a colour map and colour gradient legend as a postscript file (.ps) using generic mapping tools software running under linux. When I import this file into illustrator (in windows 8) the colour map is fine, but the colour gradient does not display properly. It appears as a bunch of white spaces and vertical colour bands of random colour. When I then try to export the file as a .pdf the colour gradient appears as solid blue. I've also tried producing a .pdf instead of .ps but it makes no difference.
It's worth noting that I have done this in the past with no problems. This particular problem first occurred a few months ago and is now persistent.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm working at a screen shop, printing .ps files for film. Most of the art is provided from the client on seperate artboards of varying size. In the print dialog box I select "custom" from media size options. This sets my page size to the size of the selected artboard. The problem is each page needs to be a different size so I am forced to print each page one at a time. Is there a way for illustrator to change the media size per artboard?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to print color separations as a Postscript file from Illustrator CS5 and the halftone areas keep showing up as grayscale instead of the specified frequency and angle. I've tried usiing multiple PPDs and options but I'm having no luck.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI've recently picked up Illustrator CS5, when I save a file (or print) as a PostScript file. My aim is to convert the file to a PDF using Distiller and in the Print dialogue box, the PPD field in past versions says something along the lines of Adobe PDF 8.0. In CS5, I do not have the option to select that from the PPD drop down menu (Nor can I find the file to add to the list). Additionally, I can't make a 'custom sized pdf,' only preset paper sizes. I've had to resort to opening my files in CS3 to convert them to PostScript files. I forsee this becoming a problem once I start diving into some of Illustrator CS5's new features.
I get the feeling the program didn't install with an Adobe PDF plug-in and I can't seem to find a substitute online that isn't from 1999 (!). Is there a way to get that plug-in file that my copy of CS3 is using into my CS5?
In our drawing office we use Inventor in a mining materials handling environment. Our output is mainly structural drawings where we require a bill of materials as part of creating a drawing. Whenever I insert a BOM in the drawing environment I get this table which is labeled in a foreign language (it looks like an Eastern European language) and the format is not as per the standard Autodesk installation setup.
How do I either revert back to the standard setup or do a BOM setup from scratch?

How can I setup screen resolution in CS6 Illustrator, so I can setup to view my artwork at 100% of printing size when I select View/ Actual Size ?
I was expecting a screen resolution setup like such, but nothing there at Preferences / Units or other preference tabs .
How do I set up a custom document profile in Illustrator CC and save it for future use?
I do not see any way to save it.
All previous Photoshop versions did come with a folder of EPS PostScript patterns that could be used for tiled backgrounds and such. Now in CS4 these EPS patterns seem completely gone? I did search the Photoshop CS4 directory and the Photoshop CS4 DVD with various search words and saw nothing. The Photoshop CS4 subfolder Presets/Patterns doesn't offer the EPS patterns (as it did before). They are also not in the free download to bring back some features that were omitted in CS4.
Are the PostScript patterns lost indeed?
Btw, to me it seems there are also other directories with provided patterns and such missing:
- Photoshop installation subdirectory Plug-Ins/bump maps? (sorry, i don't have English CS4)
- Photoshop DVD subdir "Textures for Lighting effects" (or so) and "RGB textures in hi-res" (or so)
I need setting up the size of a new document. It will not allow me to choose a (Custom) size only the presets and there is not one there for a business card.

I am trying to go to File > Document Setup and all I get is a new dialog box that completely leaves out page orientation and page size as well. I just want to have an artboard that is 11" x 8 1/2" but there is nothing I see in menus or in palettes that give the old comfortable page orientation change that you used to be able to do in older versions of Illustrator. How do I set page or artboard size and orientation?
I had actions set up on an old computer to create diametric and isometric illustrations. The old scale, shear, rotate trick.I should have backed up. But I didn't, and through moving things from computer to computer to computer, I no longer have the actions. And now I need them.
I found what I need for Isometric in this thread here -URL...- specifically, Jet's image right down the bottom. Which is just what I need and have set up a new isometric action. is the numbers I need to draw a dimetric illustration.
PC, Windows 7, AI CC..I have a document that displays units in points, and when I change the unit type to inches in the preferences panel and the Document Setup panel, the change won't apply.
I've tried saving as a new document, restarting, etc. I even tried setting the units to other units... doesn't matter what I have the units set to in preferences, it's always displaying points.
My old Xerox PS printer gave up the ghost, so I'm looking for a new Black and White Postscript Laser Printer.
One factor that is important to me is replacement cartridge cost.

Quick question about the postscript fill in CorelDRAW x4. I have a shape which I am filling with a hatch from the postscript fill menu. Corel recognizes that the hatch is there, but I cannot see it on screen. I have my screen set on "Enhanced" view and still cannot see the fill. Just wondering if there is something I can do to make the PS fills viewable on screen.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat is people's preference in regards to TrueType or PostScript fonts? Is one that much better than the other? I have read a bit on both these formats to understand the techincal stuff behind them, and there doesn't seem to be much between them. I understand you have to have Adobe Type Manager installed to use PostScript fonts, but i read that it's better to use them when having work professionally printed. However, i am not sure exactly why this is, and if the advantages of PostScript fonts in this regard is worth the expense of purchasing Adobe Type Manager. I have always used TrueType fonts (as do most people), but as i'm getting more work printed professionally, i got to wondering about PostScript fonts.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new HP Laserjet M712 B&W printer to replace my aging HP 5000 printer. I'm using X3 & X5 and have installed the HP Universal Postscript driver. The printer is Postscript 3 emulation capable. I have all the settings in the print dialog of Corel the same as the settings from my HP5000 printer, but the new printer fails to print halftones or "dots". The halftone areas are still printing as a solid although I have my screen frequency at 45lpi. Is this a Corel issue or is it a Windows 7 problem, or some kind of user error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI set up films for screenprinting for remote clents, so work at 35, 45 and 55 lpi a lot. The best way, of course, is to save a pdf with postcript halftones and angles set correctly and have the client print to film through their RIP. Most of my clients don't have RIPs and never will. So I end up working with the bitmap/halftone settings in Phtoshop a lot. It takes a long time. If I could print photoshop or Illustrator seps to hi rez .tiffs (I know they have to be 1200 ppi, but we can work with that) through a RIP via a virtual printer or some other thing, it would save me a lot of time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI run a little print shop as part of our Charity and we produce T-shirts, sublimation mugs and coasters as well as some paper based goods.
I've read a lot about color management but what is the best way to to set up to print to our postscript printers (one OKI 821 & a Ricoh 820DN)
Currently I have the default workspace set to CMYK, sRGB & coated Fogra39 profiles, color engine as WCS, preserve black off and the rest as defaults.
My question is how to set up for printing to postscript? I've read that this is best for color accuracy and allows for different colour spaces with in the same document. We print a lot of cards for local artists whose images are edited in Photoshop and output as srgb jpegs. We then import these into corel and add writing using the standard CMYK palette.
At the moment when we print we have corel set to manage colours, output colours as native as there is a combination of of RGB & CMYK elements. Within the printer driver we set either CM off or ICM managed by host, depending on the driver.
Is this correct? I did have a thought that this combination may mean that effectively there is no color management happening at all!?! It is useful for us to keep the jpegs as RGB because some customers will require their artwork on sublimation items as well which require transfers being produced on a non-postscript device. For these we use a sublimation ICC profile and a PCL driver and it works well.
With postscript I have found that outputting the file as cmyk rather than native dulls the image considerably. However, using native output gives different results from both of our printers.
I'm unable to print halftone on postscript printer.

Is there a way to save a custom artboard setup with a custom document profile in illustrator cs5? I do technical illustrations and our page size is odd (7.19 x 8.96. It the size that our Framemaker layout is set to.). I have a custom document profile that I use, but I use the grids all the time so that my callouts are spaced out evenly around the art. I would like to have a way to set the artboard up so that the grid will align to the center of the artboard everytime I turn them on. Right now they always start from the top left and when I center art in the center of the page, the grid spacing isn't the same on each side of the art. I just want to be able to open my document profile, turn on my grids, have them start from the center, and I can get down to business. As it is now I have to go into my artboard settings and manually adjust the grid to the center. Small annoyance, but it still annoys me. I have tried to save it a few different ways, but nothing has worked. Maybe there just isn't a way.
