PC, Windows 7, AI CC..I have a document that displays units in points, and when I change the unit type to inches in the preferences panel and the Document Setup panel, the change won't apply.

I've tried saving as a new document, restarting, etc. I even tried setting the units to other units... doesn't matter what I have the units set to in preferences, it's always displaying points.
document info / object can't chane units to mm, it show inch only....WHY?!?!?!

I am trying to go to File > Document Setup and all I get is a new dialog box that completely leaves out page orientation and page size as well. I just want to have an artboard that is 11" x 8 1/2" but there is nothing I see in menus or in palettes that give the old comfortable page orientation change that you used to be able to do in older versions of Illustrator. How do I set page or artboard size and orientation?

I need setting up the size of a new document. It will not allow me to choose a (Custom) size only the presets and there is not one there for a business card.

The problem is, when I call sAIDocument->GetDocumentFileSpecification, I get a NULL file path with an error code of kNoDocumentErr.
Is it possible to create an art which is present on the document but not on the 'Layer' panel(F7)?

My requirement is to create an art which is visible on the document, but could not be seen on the Layer panel and user is not able to select it.

Just like it happens in case of reflection, when we are creating a copy of selected art object, the reflected copy doesn't present on the 'Layer' panel but it is visible on the document and user is not able to select the reflected one, while he can only select the original art.
I have just reloaded CS5 onto my laptop with Windows 7 and I can't change the unit preference to inches. Every time I try to select it, it immediately reverts back to points.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to save a custom artboard setup with a custom document profile in illustrator cs5? I do technical illustrations and our page size is odd (7.19 x 8.96. It the size that our Framemaker layout is set to.). I have a custom document profile that I use, but I use the grids all the time so that my callouts are spaced out evenly around the art. I would like to have a way to set the artboard up so that the grid will align to the center of the artboard everytime I turn them on. Right now they always start from the top left and when I center art in the center of the page, the grid spacing isn't the same on each side of the art. I just want to be able to open my document profile, turn on my grids, have them start from the center, and I can get down to business. As it is now I have to go into my artboard settings and manually adjust the grid to the center. Small annoyance, but it still annoys me. I have tried to save it a few different ways, but nothing has worked. Maybe there just isn't a way.

first i am working in meters .meters is choosen under the drawing settings tab .i am trying to test print at 1:1Â a rectangle with 0.2 meters side that normaly will fit in a A4 sheet since the A4 is 0.21x0.297 METERS .
in the print dialogue i set the 1"mm" = 0.001 "units". the result is an image multiplied by 1000...arent the " units "Â Â METERS? METERS is what i use in the drawing so why i get a biger image?
if i set 1"mm"= 1 "unit" and NOT 0.001 i get correct 1:1 print .
what i am missing? c3d wants me to give 1mm=1meter?
where is the performance panel of the preferences dialog?

This panel setting is something very odd to me and coming from PC I never had problem changing panel settings. I'm trying to follow along with a video at Lynda.com on AI CS6.However, in the video, Deke McClelland is showing the TEXT "Align" on the top Control Panel.On my screen, it's not a text, but a small icon. When I click it, I don't get the same options he does.

I've searched and searched and can't find how to get MY screen to look like his. I have even tried to "Reset Essentials" (the workspace he's using) and still no luck.

Photoshop allows me to hide bounding box, and the rulers, I think, when having an effect window open, why does Illustrator not permit this?Is there an alternative other than canceling out and starting again with the view qualities changed?

Seems needlessly long winded to cut off these shortcuts just because an effects settings window/panel is open.
I want to change the default precision shown in my drawing from two decimal places to three. In my .idw file the "Units" tab does not seem to be there. I see Standard, Sketch, Drawing, Sheet. I could change each dimension one by one, but there's got to be an easier way.

It does almost what I need it to do. except that it also copies the ".ai" in to the layer name. Is there some way to modify this script to have it exclude or delete the file extension?
Apparently, in the CS3 is impossible to do any scripting and using any actions. Can it be done using plugins sdk, without creating a new document? I tried using the functions SetPageSetup and SetCropBox but no effect

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy work involves importing in new documents and formating them correctly. We have a specific font style that is different than the original font. Illustrator cannot read those fonts, so it defaults to Myriad Pro in the original text size. Since it is changing it from Myriad Pro to Arial, I don't really have a problem with the global change that this would have.

When I open the .AI I noticed that the reference to the visuals is under a %DocumentFiles section:
