View 11 Replies View RelatedI am trying to place an EPS file into an illustrator file using Illustrator CS5 MAC.
The EPS file created in a CAD program uses the Garamond system font.
When I place the file, Ilustrator changes the font to bArial. Find Font doesn't show either Arial or Garamond.
I can open the EPS and see that it has Garamond.
How can i get illustrator to use the font in the EPS file when placed?
As the title says Illustrator will not let me change typeface or type size. I am working on CS6 and Windows 8 platform. When I click the type button, the type size and selection does not appear, it stays with the stroke and variable width profile selectors. Is there any fix without unistall reinstall?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy work involves importing in new documents and formating them correctly. We have a specific font style that is different than the original font. Illustrator cannot read those fonts, so it defaults to Myriad Pro in the original text size. Since it is changing it from Myriad Pro to Arial, I don't really have a problem with the global change that this would have.
I already have the [Character Styles] options set up for a template, but this does not work on new documents.
We are on Windows 7 with CS6.
I've looked and looked, and even Googled. how to change the default color profile when you start a New image file? In CS5 mine defaults to sRGB (Under the Advanced drop down) but my CS6 is ProPhoto RGB which means I have to change it manually nearly every time I paste an image copied via right click in a web browser.

View 10 Replies View RelatedEverything you read says that to change the default AI (CS3) startup document you use this path:
Users > (User Name) > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > New Document Profiles > *.ai
The problem is, under Mountain Lion that path doesn't exist. When I go to my user name, there is no "Library" folder at all. Under "Shared" there is an AI Library folder, but it has nothing of any value in it.
My AI startup document (that I've been using for ages) is found here:
HD > Applications > Adobe Illustrator CS3 > Plug-ins > filename.ai
However, if I navigate there and make changes, then quit Illustrator and re-launch it, nothing happens. I'm using the same old defaults as before. I know I need to upgrade to a later version of CS, but the prices have become so outrageous there's no way I can justify it as long as AI and PS are working. You need a mortgage to buy new Adobe products these days.
I have created a Document using sAIDocument->New().
Later I would like to change the title of the document, which I originally passed in on the AINewDocumentPreset.docTitle.
how I can do this programatically, or do you have to remove the document and start again?
When I add a logo to my artwork in illustrator, import the illustrator file to a word template and print, it changes the printed colours dramatically..(black to blue, green to black and yellow to pink). Do I need to change a setting for that imported logo to make it compatible to print? Without that particular logo, the document prints fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to make the active layer name the same as the document name. I know very little about scripting. I found this script:
var idoc = app.activeDocument;var ilayer = idoc.activeLayer;var filename = idoc.name;ilayer.name = filename;
It does almost what I need it to do. except that it also copies the ".ai" in to the layer name. Is there some way to modify this script to have it exclude or delete the file extension?
Apparently, in the CS3 is impossible to do any scripting and using any actions. Can it be done using plugins sdk, without creating a new document? I tried using the functions SetPageSetup and SetCropBox but no effect
View 6 Replies View RelatedI love the new versions of Illustrator, but get left in the dust with new innovations that I can't figure out.
I am trying to go to File > Document Setup and all I get is a new dialog box that completely leaves out page orientation and page size as well. I just want to have an artboard that is 11" x 8 1/2" but there is nothing I see in menus or in palettes that give the old comfortable page orientation change that you used to be able to do in older versions of Illustrator. How do I set page or artboard size and orientation?
document info / object can't chane units to mm, it show inch only....WHY?!?!?!
View 2 Replies View RelatedPC, Windows 7, AI CC..I have a document that displays units in points, and when I change the unit type to inches in the preferences panel and the Document Setup panel, the change won't apply.
I've tried saving as a new document, restarting, etc. I even tried setting the units to other units... doesn't matter what I have the units set to in preferences, it's always displaying points.
changing the file path for links in an Illustrator document?
For example, let's say my Illustrator document is stored at: /Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/designs/concept1.ai
and I have placed 2 linked visuals:
/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/big_retouch.psd
/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
When I open the .AI I noticed that the reference to the visuals is under a %DocumentFiles section:
%%DocumentFiles:/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/retouc hed.psd
%%+/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
I need to replace "/Volumes/Storage/Projects" with "/Volumes/Projects". (There are some more complex replacements I need, but let's start here.)

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use this command to change the colour of objects inside of a document using applescipt but i keep getting an error "adobe illustrator "can't get color"" the colour exists and is active on a document. I have read the manual on variables and i'm a little lost on what i'm doing wrong, heres what i've got so far:
tell application "Adobe Illustrator"
if color is "C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=90" then
set color to "C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=90"
end if
end tell
i understand this is quite basic but its all i have to start with at the moment

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if it's possible to change the decimal place accuracy to default to only rounded numbers i.e. 1mm instead of 1.325. I want EVERYTHING to snap to the nearest mm (Axis, Dimensions etc.) rather than 1.233 for example.
Yes, I can manually type into the dims / axis boxes everytime but thats a chore.
I open PDFs in Illustrator that were created in Autodesk Inventor. The default of Myriad Pro is applied and I would like to change that. I have made a new document profile and a new workspace, but the profile is only good for a new document. The workspace does not change the default type. I could save lots of time if I could change this behavior! I am working in CS6 on a 64-bit Windows machine.
Perhaps it is only a question of getting Illustrator to recognize Arial?

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery new document seems to open with a default text size of 12 pt. (or 0.167 inches). I am a sign maker and my typical artboard size is often 120" x 120" or larger.
Is there a way to change the default text size so that new documents open with a text size of, say, 1 inch (or 3 inches, etc)?
This is probably a basic question, but in the control panel area, where it shows the measurements of an object created, the default measurement is in inches. Can I change that to display milmeters? I am aware that it can be changed in the rulers, but up where it says X, Y, then width and height, it shows inches. I want to view it in milimeters, because I am doing a project in milimeters. How do I do that?
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe default for the save as pdf is Acrobat 6. Problem just started of my artboards not translating correctly in the PDF. Preview of the document is also very strange. Saved PDF will open correctly in Ai, but not in anything else including Acrobat and Apple Preview. Changing the compatibility to 8 fixes problem.
I get that I can make a custom preset, action or script, but I really would like to just keep it simple if possible.
how and if i can change the default color model in illustrator (in the color panel), which is RGB to something else ? (i think colors in HSB and it's a bit annoying changing that every time) i looked it up and couldn't find out.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on MAC OS 10.7.4, I'm using CS6 and I want to change the substitution font. But I don't want to do it manually to each line of text.. I have 2000 single page pdf files that use gotham font and I need to change 1 word. I do have gotham font by on my computer it's called gotham-htf. Same thing really.. but illustrator changes all the layout to myriad, and breaks it into 300 mini lines of text per file. I don't want to manually rechange everything 2000 times.
There's gotta be a way to set the default substitution font no?
When converting from LAB is it possible to change the default look up library from PANTONE Solid Coated to the Pantone+ Color Bridge Coated? Example: Set up a new job using all Pantone+ Color Bridge Coated. This creates all swatches as "Process Color" in CMYK Color Mode.
Client request is to have some Spot Colors.EXAMPLE: I take the "PANTONE 7408 CP" and rename it to "PANTONE 7408 C" change the color type to Spot Color and then close the window. Reopen the spot and change the Color Mode to book. All good now I have a PANTONE Solid Coated.
Client now decides to remove the Spot Color so I add the "P" back in the name and change the color mode back to CMYK.
Now the break is;
C: 2.49%, M: 25.93%, Y: 100%, K: 0%
NOT
C: 0%, M: 29%, Y: 100%, K: 0%
I open an older document from an unknown source. A warning pops up that I have no substitute for the font, which is Helvetica90ms-RKSJ-H. I go to the "change font" window but am unable to substitute this font for the one on my system, which is Adobe Helvetica. If I try change the character style options default, it defaults right back to Helvetica90ms-RKSJ-H. If I manually change each bit of text (there are dozens in each document, and 200 documents), then copy/paste the fonts into a new document, the new document becomes corrupted and I can no longer choose the font on my system (Adobe Helvetica).
I have even tried an interim method of copy/pasting, by copying to the Windows notepad. That should lose any and all formatting. But when I copy it back to the Illustrator document, it becomes corrupted with Helvetica90ms-RKSJ-H.
