Illustrator :: Change Default Text In CS6 Permanently For Every New Document Or Import?
Feb 27, 2014
My work involves importing in new documents and formating them correctly. We have a specific font style that is different than the original font. Illustrator cannot read those fonts, so it defaults to Myriad Pro in the original text size. Since it is changing it from Myriad Pro to Arial, I don't really have a problem with the global change that this would have.
I already have the [Character Styles] options set up for a template, but this does not work on new documents.
I am trying to change my default import location on my MAC Pro Tower, to one of the internal HD's. I have named the HD Photo Location, and have created a folder in it called it "My Lightroom Photos". I have been able to create this, but cannot seem to ber able to make it my default when I open LR 3.5. I have to manually go in and change it. Is there a way that this can be changed to make it my default?
where the preferences are saved for items like in the postscript tab. Automatically increase Flatness
Auto increase Fountain fill steps. Optimize Fountain Fills
Confirm to DSC
As far as I can see the default behavior for these should be ON, it used to be this could be saved as the Defaults until after version 9, now they turn off. However is there any reason to ever have them off? I think not but just in case there is I will allow as to leave them there for people to turn off.
Yes I am aware I can save those settings as Print styles and have in fact got 2, one with crop marks enabled and because crop marks are 100 % CMYK unless greyscale is chosen I have one with no cropmarks so Xerox doesn't charge me color clicks on mixed black and color prints. Of course one has only to forget to use one of these 2 preferences to have all the problems associated with not having those items checked such as dropped out complex items.
While I am at it another default should be NOT to treat all objects as filled - the first thing needed to be changed during a install. I can however live with it as is as it is not a item that needs to be changed with every job.
As I see it the most common reason for Adobe users to complain about Coreldraw is the problems that come by not having Auto Increase Flatness as a default postscript behavior and their not knowing to turn it on.
And while I am at it an addition for creating PDF's would be the option of creating as a Bitmap, this being the preferred proofing method so providing a proof doesn't provide the artwork to the client, it could also be a useful method of supplying Web artwork.
Can I change the default bitrate from 8000 kbps to 6000 kbps permanently? I brought a number of individual .mp4 song files into the timeline, about 1 hour twenty minutes total in length, can I normalize them without using "create video file". I want to play this video and be able to skip songs if I want to. The original file .mp4. I am using a trial of Corel VideoStudio Pro x4.
I often create points manually. You get that dialogue box where you choose the layer and the default local coordinates, etc etc.
The local coordinates setting always defaults to Northing/Easting. (ditto the grid coordinates).
I set it to Easting/Northing as is standard around these parts and do my points, but if I close the box, when I reopen it to add more points later, it is back to Northing/Easting.
I cannot find a variable to control this behaviour.
I never need points to have north first and would like it to default to Easting/Northing at all times. Yes I'm using the Metric template.
Every new document seems to open with a default text size of 12 pt. (or 0.167 inches). I am a sign maker and my typical artboard size is often 120" x 120" or larger.
Is there a way to change the default text size so that new documents open with a text size of, say, 1 inch (or 3 inches, etc)?
How to change the spell check in Illustrator CC to check spelling using UK English spelling permanently.
So everytime I start a new document or even open an existing document and go Edit- Check Spelling it will check the spelling as UK English not USA English?
Can I import (or create) default Lightroom settings from an existing document and save them? Make them a personal default set opening with all future LR catalogs?
I've looked and looked, and even Googled. how to change the default color profile when you start a New image file? In CS5 mine defaults to sRGB (Under the Advanced drop down) but my CS6 is ProPhoto RGB which means I have to change it manually nearly every time I paste an image copied via right click in a web browser.
Im trying to delete unsued document profiles, but after deleting they are recreated every time i start Illustrator. How can i delete them permanently ?
I am using Lightroom 4. I changed my import settings to a preset location. Is there a way to make that my default setting so I do not have to select it each time that I import?
The problem is, under Mountain Lion that path doesn't exist. When I go to my user name, there is no "Library" folder at all. Under "Shared" there is an AI Library folder, but it has nothing of any value in it.
My AI startup document (that I've been using for ages) is found here:
However, if I navigate there and make changes, then quit Illustrator and re-launch it, nothing happens. I'm using the same old defaults as before. I know I need to upgrade to a later version of CS, but the prices have become so outrageous there's no way I can justify it as long as AI and PS are working. You need a mortgage to buy new Adobe products these days.
Is it possible to change the default import directory from "My Pictures" to a different directory? It gets tedious to have to specify the directory I want to use every single time I import and I have not found a way to make this change sticky.
That seems like it should be a preference but I can find no way to make this change.
How can I tell LR to import to a new destination drive? I found a similar question for LR 3 a couple of years ago, which says in the import dialog box, choose destination. That doesn't seem to be there now. In any case, I want LR to import to the new destination all the time, not just as a one-off. My HD is full and I can't keep moving files manually.
How to change my import presets back to default or none. I changed it on a photo and now my pics are all yellow. How to change. I reset and it still does it.
I know how to go in to my settings and change the default page settings on a new design, but I want my settings to ALWAYS come up with the settings I change them to. How do I set these so that every time I start Xara I don't have to go change the settings AGAIN?
can i write a plug in c#(or any other language) for import/export a screen of the adobe illustrator cs6 in html (or any other format) if document of web type.
When I add a logo to my artwork in illustrator, import the illustrator file to a word template and print, it changes the printed colours dramatically..(black to blue, green to black and yellow to pink). Do I need to change a setting for that imported logo to make it compatible to print? Without that particular logo, the document prints fine.
How do you change the default text style (when creating a text object) in 3dsmax ?
Here is the scoop, I have successfully created attributed 3d objects in Autocad, exploded & convereted the attributes to text objects instantly via coding, then wblocking the text objects, importing them into 3dsmax via the Autocad Legacy importer with the group according to object selected, then in one shot coverted that group to an editable mesh (thus giving me filled in text).
It all works perfectly including text with thickness's, it retains itself as text objects in 3d studio and does not seem to overbloat the 3dsmax file (I typically have about 200 to 250 lines of text per job), this if for commercial interior design where I have many signs and walls with textual information that are the same sign but with different sayings, and also a few incremantal numbered stuff, so much easier to fill in in Autocad, some automatically via coding most as already mad blocks, then it is to do it TWICE, one for the cad drawings, then again for the the renderings.
Anyways, what happens is, the text comes in always ARIAL style, this is what I want to change, things I have tried so far:
1. Drew a text object in 3dsmax before importing, changing the text style to what I want, I said, this has to work, becasue when you go back to the create text dialogue in 3dsmax, the last style used remains as the new default. Imported the cad file, NOPE, Arial again.
2. Then I thought, maybe the actual style name in Autocad was teh problem, so I then renamed the style in autocad the to EXACT name of the Windows font file. Thats it, had to work, NOPE, Arial again.
3. Fruitlessly look in the 3dsmax options dialogue box, no default text style.
4. Tried to figure out how in the world I can select TWO text objects in 3dsmax and get the modify text modify panel so I can change more then one at a time, I dont know how to do that or if it even can be done.
What I need to know is if there is some sort of configuration file that I can edit that will allow me to change the default text style, I find it hard to believe that the word 'Arial' is hard-coded into the 3dsmax software or the Legacy Autocad importer, what if you didn't have that font on your computer ??
I will not have a problem changing that file for each font style I want to import, I will simply in Autocad split apart the different font styles to different layers, then change whatever I need to in 3dsmax then import each group of styles one at a time, no problem. I have already done 3 projects with my system, changing 200 or so text styles in 3dsmax one at a time, this has to end !
It does almost what I need it to do. except that it also copies the ".ai" in to the layer name. Is there some way to modify this script to have it exclude or delete the file extension?
Apparently, in the CS3 is impossible to do any scripting and using any actions. Can it be done using plugins sdk, without creating a new document? I tried using the functions SetPageSetup and SetCropBox but no effect
I love the new versions of Illustrator, but get left in the dust with new innovations that I can't figure out.
I am trying to go to File > Document Setup and all I get is a new dialog box that completely leaves out page orientation and page size as well. I just want to have an artboard that is 11" x 8 1/2" but there is nothing I see in menus or in palettes that give the old comfortable page orientation change that you used to be able to do in older versions of Illustrator. How do I set page or artboard size and orientation?
PC, Windows 7, AI CC..I have a document that displays units in points, and when I change the unit type to inches in the preferences panel and the Document Setup panel, the change won't apply.
I've tried saving as a new document, restarting, etc. I even tried setting the units to other units... doesn't matter what I have the units set to in preferences, it's always displaying points.
When I open the .AI I noticed that the reference to the visuals is under a %DocumentFiles section: %%DocumentFiles:/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/retouc hed.psd %%+/Volumes/Storage/Projects/Client/AAA001/visuals/flattened.jpg
I need to replace "/Volumes/Storage/Projects" with "/Volumes/Projects". (There are some more complex replacements I need, but let's start here.)
I've looked through all the FAQs I can find, and I can see how to change the settings each time I print, but I'd like to make it so that it always prints the pictures several shades lighter. I also need to recalibrate the printer, but this has always been a problem. Is there a way to permanently set up a printing profile that will always automatically apply?
