Photoshop :: TrueType Or PostScript Fonts

Sep 3, 2004

What is people's preference in regards to TrueType or PostScript fonts? Is one that much better than the other? I have read a bit on both these formats to understand the techincal stuff behind them, and there doesn't seem to be much between them. I understand you have to have Adobe Type Manager installed to use PostScript fonts, but i read that it's better to use them when having work professionally printed. However, i am not sure exactly why this is, and if the advantages of PostScript fonts in this regard is worth the expense of purchasing Adobe Type Manager. I have always used TrueType fonts (as do most people), but as i'm getting more work printed professionally, i got to wondering about PostScript fonts.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Export To PDF Or DXF - Stroke Truetype Fonts

Jan 6, 2014

My customer is recently importing our drawings (.dxf preferably, but pdf is acceptable) and they need single stroke fonts / polylines to ensure that the file import will be successful (otherwise, with true type fonts, the contours and filling separate and shift, which makes the text unreadable).

All fonts in Inventor (.idw files) are true type fonts, and I can't find any option to stroke the fonts when exporting to .dxf or .pdf.

Raster images are not allowed, so I cannot simply export the file as an image and then back to a vector file. Any option I just don't see in the export settings...

Photoshop :: Postscript Fonts Not Appearing In CS3

Sep 10, 2008

I have quite a few postscript fonts installed on my Windows XP Professional 64-bit computer, but none of my adobe programs are showing them as available. I tried using my old Type manager deluxe, but it won't let me install it on a 64-bit system. I used the windows font installer to install the fonts. How do I get my creative suite to recognize the fonts?

CorelDRAW X3 :: Postscript Halftone Screen Using Paint Tool / Uniform Color / Options / Postscript

Oct 21, 2011

I require an equally spaced fine line shading in an extrusion.  I will take you through my process and then get to the problem.

I create an object (usually curved text), extrude it and  break the extrusion apart;  then I use the fill tool and open fill color dialog, change to palettes and select black, 20%;  next I click on options and select Postscript options, from there I select line and an angle and frequency.   This produces exactly the fine line shading I need, when I print it on my postscript printer.

The problem is that when I save the file as an .eps or .ai file to send to another prepress, the screen in their file always show up as dots not lines.  I have not been able to find a way around this, the other fill types use tiling and that does not produce the same consistent shading.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2014 TrueType Font

Jul 30, 2013

It is well documented that when text objects using a TrueType font (ie Arial) have a non zero elevation that they do not display correctly.  Before we upgraded (in May our office upgraded from C3D2009 to C3D2014) I was meticulous about making sure our text objects always had a zero elevation and we largely avoided any problems.

However in Civil 3D 2014 it seems that by default contour label objects and certain other label objects are given a non-zero elevation (they are assigned the elevation of the contour or in the case of a pipe network object, the manhole rim elevation).  Thus the text in these labels displays incorrectly.

This is a very frustrating problem as we are now faced with having to revert all of our styles back to .shx based fonts.  Is Autodesk aware of the bug?

Photoshop :: CS4 - Are EPS PostScript...

Dec 10, 2008

All previous Photoshop versions did come with a folder of EPS PostScript patterns that could be used for tiled backgrounds and such. Now in CS4 these EPS patterns seem completely gone? I did search the Photoshop CS4 directory and the Photoshop CS4 DVD with various search words and saw nothing. The Photoshop CS4 subfolder Presets/Patterns doesn't offer the EPS patterns (as it did before). They are also not in the free download to bring back some features that were omitted in CS4.

Are the PostScript patterns lost indeed?

Btw, to me it seems there are also other directories with provided patterns and such missing:
- Photoshop installation subdirectory Plug-Ins/bump maps? (sorry, i don't have English CS4)
- Photoshop DVD subdir "Textures for Lighting effects" (or so) and "RGB textures in hi-res" (or so)

Photoshop :: Print (save) Postscript Halftones Through RIP To Hi-rez TIFF Instead Of To Film?

Nov 25, 2012

I set up films for screenprinting for remote clents, so work at 35, 45 and 55 lpi a lot.  The best way, of course, is to save a pdf with postcript halftones and angles set correctly and have the client print to film through their RIP.  Most of my clients don't have RIPs and never will.  So I end up working with the bitmap/halftone settings in Phtoshop a lot.  It takes a long time.  If I could print photoshop or Illustrator seps to hi rez .tiffs (I know they have to be 1200 ppi, but we can work with that) through a RIP via a virtual printer or some other thing, it would save me a lot of time.

Apr 5, 2013

Illustrator :: Colours Of Imported Postscript Not Displayed Properly

Jun 12, 2013

I produced a colour map and colour gradient legend as a postscript file (.ps) using generic mapping tools software running under linux. When I import this file into illustrator (in windows 8) the colour map is fine, but the colour gradient does not display properly. It appears as a bunch of white spaces and vertical colour bands of random colour. When I then try to export the file as a .pdf the colour gradient appears as solid blue. I've also tried producing a .pdf instead of .ps but it makes no difference.

It's worth noting that I have done this in the past with no problems. This particular problem first occurred a few months ago and is now persistent.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 :: Colour Management And Postscript Printing

Nov 21, 2013

I run a little print shop as part of our Charity and we produce T-shirts, sublimation mugs and coasters as well as some paper based goods.

I've read a lot about color management but what is the best way to to set up to print to our postscript printers (one OKI 821 & a Ricoh 820DN)

Currently I have the default workspace set to CMYK, sRGB & coated Fogra39 profiles,  color engine as WCS, preserve black off and the rest as defaults.

My question is how to set up for printing to postscript? I've read that this is best for color accuracy and allows for different colour spaces with in the same document. We print a lot of cards for local artists whose images are edited in Photoshop and output as srgb jpegs. We then import these into corel and add writing using the standard CMYK palette.

At the moment when we print we have corel set to manage colours, output colours as native as there is a combination of of RGB & CMYK elements. Within the printer driver we set either CM off or ICM managed by host, depending on the driver.

Is this correct? I did have a thought that this combination may mean that effectively there is no color management happening at all!?! It is useful for us to keep the jpegs as RGB because some customers will require their artwork on sublimation items as well  which require transfers being produced on a non-postscript device. For these we use a sublimation ICC profile and a PCL driver and it works well.

With postscript I have found that outputting the file as cmyk rather than native dulls the image considerably. However, using native output gives different results from both of our printers.

Illustrator :: CS5 - Cannot Make Custom Size When Printing A PostScript File

Jun 28, 2010

I've recently picked up Illustrator CS5, when I save a file (or print) as a PostScript file. My aim is to convert the file to a PDF using Distiller and in the Print dialogue box, the PPD field in past versions says something along the lines of Adobe PDF 8.0. In CS5, I do not have the option to select that from the PPD drop down menu (Nor can I find the file to add to the list). Additionally, I can't make a 'custom sized pdf,' only preset paper sizes. I've had to resort to opening my files in CS3 to convert them to PostScript files. I forsee this becoming a problem once I start diving into some of Illustrator CS5's new features.

I get the feeling the program didn't install with an Adobe PDF plug-in and I can't seem to find a substitute online that isn't from 1999 (!). Is there a way to get that plug-in file that my copy of CS3 is using into my CS5?

Photoshop :: Make All Fonts From Windows / Fonts Available To CS5?

May 6, 2013

It used to be that I very rarely used fonts within CS5 but recently I have.  I realized that all of the fonts supposedly included with CS5 are not available via my drop down menu.

I then found these fonts in Windows/fonts so I copied all of those fonts into Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts.  These unavailble fonts are now listed in that folder but are still not available via the dropdown menu in PS CS5.

I've recently read that the fonts don't really even NEED to be in the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts folder and that PS should actually make all of the fonts in Windows/Fonts available via the dropdown menu.  Yes, I have restarted PS after copying the files and also tried rebooting my PC after copying the files.  The fonts are still not available via the drop down text menu within PS even though all of them are now in both locations.
