My normal workflow consists of opening RAW files in ACR, making adjustments, then moving on to Photoshop where I apply retouching and build clipping paths. I then save the file as an 8bit TIFF. I rarely reopen these 8bit TIFFs again, but when I did so recently what I encountered was not what I expected.

My Photoshop (CS6) is opening 8bit TIFF files as Camera Raw when selected by "right click" followed by "Open with Photoshop CS6". I remember being able to open 8bit TIFF files directly in Photoshop, but I think this change has occurred since installing CS6.
Again, files in question began as 16bit Raw files, but were worked on in Photoshop CS6 (retouching) and saved with clipping paths. This would reduce them to 8bit files. When placed in page layout, clipping paths work properly, confirming that paths are intact.

When I want to open the files again - say from Bridge or a Finder window - by the method "right click - Open with Photoshop CS6", the file is opened first in Camera Raw, and then in Photoshop, and the path(s) is missing.I can open these TIFF files and access Paths but only if I locate and select the file from within Photoshop (File/ Open.../). The Open window gives "Format" as Camera Raw (which it isn't, having been saved as 8bit file). If I override format to "TIFF", the file opens with clipping path shown.
I am using a windows CS6 Bridge => Camera Raw (8.2) => CS6 Photoshop (13.0.1 x64) to try to open various 16-bit raw files (.dng, .nef, .arw) which Bridge sees as 16-bit, but only an 8-bit version makes it into photoshop. Â How do I convince Camera Raw to do its job? Â Lightroom (4.4) is able to export a 16-bit .psd which sort-of-works but shouldn't be necessary.
I am using Photoshop CS6. I am unable to save a 8bit tiff or psd file as a jpeg. When I choose JPEG format .iff is attached to the file. When I open the same file in CS5 it works correctly. Whichever format I attempt to save as it selects the suffix for the format above.  I have downloaded again but no change.Â
I made a picture in HRD Pro, and i want to work on it. I saved it as a .psd and also as a .tif, but I cannot open nor the .psd, nor the .tif in Camera Raw? If I save it as a .Jpg I already lose quality..?

photoshop opens some jpg files 3 (i have a folder with 60 pics raw and jpg ) and it opens always via camera raw. I mean i want to open these 3 files like other jpg files , directly in photoshop.
Due to size concerns, I began to convert my orijinal raw files taken by 7D as 5184*3456 pixels to 3000*2000 pixel by Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.12.52.0 to TIFF files . ( gaining almost %50 of the original size)   Then I'll use bridge to open them as raw files in Camera raw for editing ...   Do you think that, there will be some quality issues after then ?
I have checked the Camera Raw preferences to open jpgs and tiffs in Camera Raw. I have the Bride CC preferences set to Bridge CC for jpgs and tiffs.  I c n open jpgs in Camera Raw, but I can't open tiffs in Camera Raw. I must be doing something wrong.  The settings for jpgs and tiffs in Windows file association are identical.  The settings for jpgs and tiffs in Bridge preferences are identical.  Yet, I can open jpgs in Camera Raw, and I can't open tiffs in Camera Raw.
I have been following tutorials on creating HDR images in photoshop using the 32 bit function. Â Once I have created the 32 bit image, and saved it as a Tiff file. I then go into bridge and made sure the preferences for camera raw are set to enable suppoprted TIFFs. However I cannot open this image through camera raw, it just opens up in photoshop... Â In the turorials I have seen this does not seem to be a problem for others.
I have difficulties opening tif and jpg files in camera raw. I can not access Camera Raw. With CR2 files i have no problem. So far I know all is correct in the preference dialogue box. I bought lightroom 5 also. Can this be the cause?2
I have a Canon S100 which is one of the 6 new cameras added to LR. My existing LR would not open the CR2 file. This 3.6 RC opens it but does not list it as one of the canon cameras it profiles. How about the other 5 cameras? I don't have any of them so I can't comment. Only on the S100.
I recently did a photoshoot with a car. It was the first time that I planned to professionally use 32 bit HDR merging. I shot 4 exposures of the front of the car from the side, and shot another 4 at the same brackets of the back of the car while mounted on the tripod. Â Here's exactly what I'm trying to do;
Take 2 different 32 bit TIFFsAlign them to be a panoramaExport to a single, true 32 bit TIFFAdjust & tone that 32 bit panorama TIFF in Camera Raw  I've worked with panoramas plenty of times, but when I take the 32 bit TIFF files into photoshop, I pass through CR without doing anything. Once the TIFFs are in PS, they are converted to an 8 bit mode automatically. I also tried to take those 8 bit TIFFs, auto-align, switch back to 32 bit mode, and then export as a 32 bit TIFF. I then took the panorama 32 bit TIFF into Camera Raw, but obviously, the damage had already been done and it was not true 32 bit.
Camera Raw takes almost 2 seconds to save 103MB tiff file. (I use Photoshop CS6)When i save a bunch of tiff files, camera raw uses only half of my CPU and half of my RAM. In addition, I use SSD that writes 530MB/s outside Photoshop. According to these specifications it should save 5 images within one second. But it doesnt.
I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.
My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:
I got over 160 color corrected RAW files from my photographer when I thought I was getting TIf or PSD files. I need to put them into an in design doc to send out for printing. Is there a way to convert all of these in one fell swoop without messing up the work that has already been done?
I didn't allow in my timing to save each one individually since i didn't know I was going to need to do this. I am really unfamiliar with batch processing, so how to best go about this, or if I even can. I am working in Photoshop CS6. version 13.06 x 64.
I believe it is opening the jpeg preview stored with the DNG. Is this true or does Preview support DNG an RAW natively somehow? The particular image I opened, just to try it, looked brighter and more saturated than opening the same image in a converter.
When I open up a psd files they open at 0.13%. Really small. Today they all opened at this size. I'm using CS4 on a Mac Pro running OS 10.7.5. How do I get files to open at 100%.
I installed the CS4 Suite. When Photoshop comes up the background layer is transparent. This happens even if I open a file with Photoshop. In that case, the Layer icon shows the image but what I see on screen is only the checkerboard pattern. The proper way for the New file to show up is with the background a solid (specified) color and for an opened file the actual image being opened.Â
Since I updated to CC I've had a bug that drives me a little nuts. Because I have a Retina MacBook Pro connected to an Apple Thunderbolt display, Photoshop seems to get confused about the size of the window to open. It thinks it should be sized to fit on the Retina screen (which I use as secondary), but at 100% on the non-retina screen (the primary display).
The end result is that every time I open a document the window is only showing the top quarter of the document I'm opening. I always have to hit command plus, command minus to get it displaying right.
im using vista x64 and PS CS4 (updated). the problem occurs on both 32bit and 64bit versions. when i open an image with PS (does not matter which type or which way to open it), PS seems to open the file correctly, but does not display it at all.everything looks like the image is opened (f.e. small thumb of it in the layers window and the name of it in the title bar), but where the image should be displayed in fullsize you only see the grey PS background.it seems that besides this PS works completely fine. f.e. when i use the paint bucket tool on the grey area in the middle, the layer thumb changes to the color used..another strange thing: when i switch to another program and switch back to PS the grey background is gone and instead you see whatever program is beneath PS at that moment.. you can move the PS window and see right trough it, only the PS control windows are still displayed. thats what you see in the attached image: there is no screenshot of my explorer loaded in PS,
My understanding of Auto Recover is that when a working file is saved and closed, the corresponding Auto Recover psb should be trashed automatically.  Every evening I save and close all my work, quit Photoshop and shut down the Mac. Every morning when I start Photoshop, at least one Auto Recovery file opens. It's the last file(s) I was working on the previous evening.   I've toggled Auto Recover on/off, trashed the folder and had CS6 recreate it. Nothing works. Every morning, I am presented with a psb of the previous evening's work.  My scratch disk is a dedicated 100gb SSD. I have triple verified that CS6 is not writing recovery files to a different location.
I have Photoshop Elements 11 running in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Â When I double click a jpg file to open it in the editor the editor opens but the image does not open. However if I open the editor and open any jpg file then double click on another file it will open.
I am trying to attach a number of tiff files to individual dwg files. There are about 300 so I am writting a script that will open a new dwg, insert the tiff and save the dwg at a given name, so i have filedia set to 0 and everything is user input.
The problem I am having is that when I use the iinsert command and enter the path for the tiff I get this error: (filename)was not found or is not valid. This is pathed to a network drive. When I copy the same folder to my c: drive and run the command everything works as should. is there any reason for this?

I noticed in the error message it cuts the end of the file name off. Is there a character limit?
I have done this before with a path to the network and everything worked as should. We have recently upgrade to 2013 but i would'nt think that would be an issue.
So basically, file on local drive everything inserts fine. File on network, get error.
This is for .MXF files shot on a Canon XF300. Things were working fine, but suddenly I am unable to open those mxf files in AE CS6. Even projects previously created with AE CS6 now won't open, and give me the 'file damaged or unsupported' error message in AE. The file locations are identical.  I've found workarounds, but they fall a very long way short of the convenience of using Dynamic Link from the Premiere Pro CS6 timeline. There are lots of hits if you Google, but most go back a version or two, or suggest converting the MXF clips to an AE friendly format.Â
In Photoshop CS6 when I save a TIFF file it saves with the .sgi extension. When I save a png it saves it with the .raw extension. I haven't had this problem with previous versions of PS. I'm on a Mac with OSX 10.6.8. I also noticed that I have a plugin in the Plugins folder that's called SGIRGB.plugin. What's going on with saving in these file types or what this plugin is?
Occasionally my TIFF files open in ACR instead of opening directly into Photoshop. It doesn't happen with every file. Why would this happen? How do I prevent it?
