Photoshop :: TIFF Files Opening In ACR?
Oct 25, 2013Occasionally my TIFF files open in ACR instead of opening directly into Photoshop. It doesn't happen with every file. Why would this happen? How do I prevent it?

Mar 5, 2013Problems opening tif files in Adobe Photoshop CS6. Lately I've been getting an error message: 'Photoshop does not recognize this kind of file' whenever I try to open a tif file. I've tried everything -- doing a complete purge and reinstall of CS6 and running all the latest available updates but with no success. Photoshop will not open any tif files! Am using iMac (Intel), OSX 10.8.2!

Jun 15, 2012Every time I open a RAW file into Photoshop CS5 from LR3, it automatically creates and saves a PSD or TIFF file. Is there a way to stop lightroom from doing this? When I used LR2, I saved these files only if I choose to. I always convert my files to jpg after I'm done editing in PS and don't need these huge files hanging around.

Feb 24, 2013I have been following tutorials on creating HDR images in photoshop using the 32 bit function.
Once I have created the 32 bit image, and saved it as a Tiff file. I then go into bridge and made sure the preferences for camera raw are set to enable suppoprted TIFFs. However I cannot open this image through camera raw, it just opens up in photoshop...
In the turorials I have seen this does not seem to be a problem for others.

Oct 10, 2012I'm runing into some problems trying to open a TIF that is 600MB. I get the following error message:
Could not complete the Open command because there is not enough memory (RAM).
We are using Photoshop CS5 Extended 12.0.4 x64 on Mac OS X version 10.7.4. I've attached a screenshot of Activity Monitor displaying plenty of unused system RAM [1]. I've increased Photoshop's memory allowance (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Let Photoshop Use: 7277 MB (100%)), and I have an active Scratch Disk with more than 500 GB free.
Bridge reports the following re the TIF 14409 x 16209, 600 ppi, scanned on a KIP 3000. There's probably RLE compression involved, but I haven't confirmed that.

Photoshop :: CS 5.1 Launching Again Instead Of Opening TIFF Or JPEG
Nov 25, 2012I'm using Photoshop CS 5.1 on an iMac, running OS 10.8.2. I've encountered an odd behavior. Photoshop is open. I try to open a tif or jpeg in Photoshop by control-clicking the icon, or double-clicking in Bridge. Instead of simply opening the doc, Photoshop launches again - so now there are two Photoshop icons open in my dock. (And if I check behavior in Activity Monitor, indeed there are two Photoshop 5.1's running.) I get a message.
"The application has been moved, and its path has changed. To update the product configuration, click Update."
Click Update. Enter admin password. But then the problem simply recurs. The update isn't sticking.
The problem doesn't occur if I try to open a Photoshop doc by clicking it (just .tif and .jpg).
When I look in 'recent items - applications' in the finder I see two Photoshop 5.1's. But there is only one Photoshop 5.1 in my Application folder.
When I have two Photoshops open (as it were) neither one 'knows' about the windows open in the other. That is, if I have picture.psd open in one and picture2.psd open in the other, I don't see picture2.psd as an option in the bottom of the Window menu, if I'm viewing picture.psd.
But when I quit and just re-launch Photoshop from the dock, it remembers the docs from both launches via 'open recent'.
Most peculiar.
This really isn't inordinately impacting my workflow but it's odd, and I think it's slowing the system. (I'm thinking of updating to CS 6. Maybe it will just go away!)

Aug 26, 2013I am downloading Tiff images from a partners website. After extracting the file and opening from Photoshop CS5.1 it's only displaying one of the original image layers. For example and image with two guys shaking hands in an office is only opening the clipped two guys and not showing the backgroud. The vendor says the files open fine on their end which leads me to believe its a download or photoshop issue.

Apr 16, 2008I have have several scans that were saved as compressed TIFF that used to be roughly the shape of a letter-size piece of paper. Now when I open them, they're displaying squashed, tall and narrow. Other scans made in the same group, at the same time, saved the same way, don't show this. The ones that are not squashed say "(Gray/8)" in the title bar. The ones that are squashed say "(Gray/8) [scaled]" in the title bar. The preview in the Open dialog shows the correct shape.
I've never seen this before. Is this "scaling" something I can turn off?

Jul 5, 2004I am cleaning up the Hard Drive on my Mac G4. My scanned images are taking a great portion of the 80 Gig drive. I finished clearing my external drive by removing nearly 60 gigs of images by storing them on DVD. I will do the same for the Mac drive.
My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. However, I do not want to fill my drives, or DVD, with large files. Code:

Nov 11, 2013I got over 160 color corrected RAW files from my photographer when I thought I was getting TIf or PSD files. I need to put them into an in design doc to send out for printing. Is there a way to convert all of these in one fell swoop without messing up the work that has already been done?
I didn't allow in my timing to save each one individually since i didn't know I was going to need to do this. I am really unfamiliar with batch processing, so how to best go about this, or if I even can. I am working in Photoshop CS6. version 13.06 x 64.

Oct 30, 2013I am trying to attach a number of tiff files to individual dwg files. There are about 300 so I am writting a script that will open a new dwg, insert the tiff and save the dwg at a given name, so i have filedia set to 0 and everything is user input.
The problem I am having is that when I use the iinsert command and enter the path for the tiff I get this error: (filename)was not found or is not valid. This is pathed to a network drive. When I copy the same folder to my c: drive and run the command everything works as should. is there any reason for this?
When pathed to the c: drive and working correctly it looks like this:

I noticed in the error message it cuts the end of the file name off. Is there a character limit?
I have done this before with a path to the network and everything worked as should. We have recently upgrade to 2013 but i would'nt think that would be an issue.
So basically, file on local drive everything inserts fine. File on network, get error.
Photoshop :: CS6 - TIFF Files Save As SGI
Aug 2, 2012In Photoshop CS6 when I save a TIFF file it saves with the .sgi extension. When I save a png it saves it with the .raw extension. I haven't had this problem with previous versions of PS. I'm on a Mac with OSX 10.6.8. I also noticed that I have a plugin in the Plugins folder that's called SGIRGB.plugin. What's going on with saving in these file types or what this plugin is?

Due to unknown reason, when i tried to save the file in photoshop, and I was informed the file is non-accessible. It ends up the file is disappeared from hardisk and I used some recovery software to retrieve the tif files. However, it seems a corrupted tif files which can't open in Photoshop or Irfanview.
the error message I got from photoshop is 'could not complete your request, because it is not the right kind of file'.. it is a tif file with layers.
I had tried to google and search, it seems there is no way to repair a corrupted tif files.
Photoshop :: Saving TIFF Files
Jun 24, 2008Photoshop 7 has suddenly started saving TIFF files without a preview or thumbnail. That is, I can't see the preview or thumbnail in Windows Explorer (Windows XP) or Windows Picture & Fax Viewer--which says "no preview available."
This just happened--I've just saved dozens of pics in TIFF with previews.
I tried resetting my Photoshop preferences--no change. In the File Handling Preferences, for Image Previews, "Always Save" is selected. When I save an image, in the "Save" dialog, "Thumbnail" is checked (and grayed out).
However, if I try to open a file from within Photoshop, in the Open dialog box, when I click on the file, I do see a preview.

Jul 3, 2012I have a question about the size of tiff files. I start with RAW (NEF) photos from my Nikon D800. These files generally import at around 40MB each and I am using Lightroom 4 to keep track of them.
I'll use Lightroom's "Edit in PS" functionality, make a bunch of edits to the file in CS6, flatten all the layers, and then save the file (as a tiff). The original NEF file was ~40MB but the new tiff file (in this specific example) is over 200MB!
How can I get the file back to a reasonable size for storage? I don't want to have to save it as a jpg - I want to keep as much information as I can.

Feb 22, 2013In general, I save my documents as uncompressed TIF files. On a recent project I have noticed that the files being created appear particularly large and are significantly bigger than the size indicated in the status bar.
An example:
Document is 16-bit RGB with Background layer, copy of background layer, a new layer that contains a small amount of retouching work and 3 curve adjustment layers.
Status bar shows Doc 223.3M/502.1M.
Saved file size as uncompressed TIF is 1.22 GB. This would seem rather large to me, considering how many layers are in use. Perhaps I have just overlooked the size of files generated before. I do note that deleting unused layer masks reduces the size of the saved file to about 989MB.
I saved the file as a PSD for comparison and the resulting file is 611.7 MB (with Maximize Compatibility turned on).
So, I am wondering if the above is considered normal and, if so, what the second figure in the status bar shows? Does the size displayed in the status bar refer to the document size when saved as a PSD file (rather than uncompressed TIF), is it merely an approximation of the saved file size, or do have an issue with my installation of Photoshop?
For information, I am using Photoshop CS 6 Extended (13.1.2) on OS X 10.8.2. Forgot to add that I am not using any smart objects.

Aug 20, 2012My camera out put is in JPEG I have no choice. While I can process jpeg with no problems in CS5 is there a better way to do this? would I be better off converting the JPEG to either tiff or psd and then process the file and then reconvert back to jpeg as the final product. I have heard so much about "lossy"(jpeg) vs "non Lossy" (tiff and psd) which are the ones I want to use?
