View 2 RepliesI am using a windows CS6 Bridge => Camera Raw (8.2) => CS6 Photoshop (13.0.1 x64) to try to open various 16-bit raw files (.dng, .nef, .arw) which Bridge sees as 16-bit, but only an 8-bit version makes it into photoshop.
How do I convince Camera Raw to do its job?
Lightroom (4.4) is able to export a 16-bit .psd which sort-of-works but shouldn't be necessary.
I am wanting to change my tif files to jpegs in order to make a book in Shutterfly. When I highlight a tif file and to the editor I get a message that this file can not be openned. What is causing this problem? and how can I correct it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to edit some scans of some drawings in Photoshop CS3, but I can't edit much. I think it might be a 16 bit TIFF, but I can't change to 8 bit. The option is completely grayed out, along with many others.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy normal workflow consists of opening RAW files in ACR, making adjustments, then moving on to Photoshop where I apply retouching and build clipping paths. I then save the file as an 8bit TIFF. I rarely reopen these 8bit TIFFs again, but when I did so recently what I encountered was not what I expected.
My Photoshop (CS6) is opening 8bit TIFF files as Camera Raw when selected by "right click" followed by "Open with Photoshop CS6". I remember being able to open 8bit TIFF files directly in Photoshop, but I think this change has occurred since installing CS6.
Again, files in question began as 16bit Raw files, but were worked on in Photoshop CS6 (retouching) and saved with clipping paths. This would reduce them to 8bit files. When placed in page layout, clipping paths work properly, confirming that paths are intact.
When I want to open the files again - say from Bridge or a Finder window - by the method "right click - Open with Photoshop CS6", the file is opened first in Camera Raw, and then in Photoshop, and the path(s) is missing.I can open these TIFF files and access Paths but only if I locate and select the file from within Photoshop (File/ Open.../). The Open window gives "Format" as Camera Raw (which it isn't, having been saved as 8bit file). If I override format to "TIFF", the file opens with clipping path shown.
When I use the 8bit mode in PsCS3, I notice some banding when using tools such as gradient map. When using 16bit mode, the banding is not so noticeable but it seems to increase file size.So which bit mode should I use for creating images for the web?
View 4 Replies View Relatedinvolving the choice of creating a new image with 8bit or 16bit color depth.
If I'm about to create a new logo or image of some sort my first impulse is to use the highest of the 2 (8 or 16).
I know it has to do with the amount of color information in each pixel so I grab at the highest number... is that impulse reasonable? Striving for the highest quality? Or is there a point of diminishing "perceivable" results?
I have also noticed that some 3rd party filters do not work when in the 16bit mode so that "might" be a drawback I suppose.
Also - I can set my monitor to 32bit color - and do - yet PS stops at 16bit... what is the reason for this please?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that there is some loss of detail when a file is converted from a RAW format into a JPEG file due to compression of the file. What I didn't realize (based on what I've read and am being told) is that the quality of my original JPEG file can slowly degrade simply by opening..saving..and closing the file becaue each time you save a JPEG file, it recompresses the current data...which causes the file to loose additional detail.

My trouble is that all my images are stored in TIFF format which takes up enormous space no matter the storage. Since I output images in various sizes, mainly prints, to 30 x 40 inches, I need a master image archived in the best format for such. I got over 160 color corrected RAW files from my photographer when I thought I was getting TIf or PSD files. I need to put them into an in design doc to send out for printing. Is there a way to convert all of these in one fell swoop without messing up the work that has already been done?
I didn't allow in my timing to save each one individually since i didn't know I was going to need to do this. I am really unfamiliar with batch processing, so how to best go about this, or if I even can. I am working in Photoshop CS6. version 13.06 x 64.
I have 2 identical PSD files. Both have 10 different paths that are identical for each file. When I flatten and save one file as a jpeg the paths stay in the file just fine as is usually the case. When I open the jpeg the paths are still there as they should be.
When I save the other file as a jpeg all the paths are there after I've saved the file and BEFORE I've closed the file. After closing and reopening the file the paths are all gone. If I save the same file as a tiff the paths all stay as usual.
I am trying to use Elements 10 to convert Panasonic RAW files to JPEGs for web use. The batch runs, but prompts for a "save" location at every file. I have reinstalled Elements, reinstalled the Camera RAW update, and have ensured I have ownership of source and destination folders (in Windows 7).
I have tried several folders, set up test folders etc. and nothing seems to work.
I have many PSD files from photoshop – with layers, masks, adjustment layers, nested groups, smart filters, layer styles and editable text at 600dpi with embedded color profiles. The idea is to import them all into lightroom and make a book.
Should I flatten the files and make them into tiffs or jpegs?
Does it make sense to keep them at 600dpi or Blurb will downsample them to 300 anyway? (if so I would rather do it myself, if not is there an option to control the output resolution?) What happens to color? – How do I ensure the best match between what I see on the screen and what the book will look like?
When I export jpegs which I changed to "black & white" in LR 4.4, and import these exported photos into a different LR 4.4 catalog, the treatment of the imported photos changes to "color".
What can I do to keep the correct treetment?
I've just bought a new Llaptop (PC) and I'm trying to take the LR 4.4 catalog off the old one to put on the new one. Trouble is, when I do this I've lost all my editing from past and jpegs are mixed in with the CR files.
