Photoshop :: Layer Position Resets When Creating Animations
Dec 11, 2012
I'm creating an animated gif from a video clip (cinemagraph). In order to acheive the effect I need, I need to move each layer with the move tool to get an object to stay in the same position. I have gone through layer by layer and used the move tool to move the contents of each layer. When I play the animation I see the layers in the position I put them in. I stop playing the animation the contents of each layer snap back to their original positions. I have tried using the lock tools (both lock position and lock all) but they don't make a difference. why layer positions would reset when creating animations and how to get it to stop?

I'm about as far from "artistic" as a person can be, I'll be the first to admit. But I think I can do OK with simple stuff if I just knew what I was doing! Any basic tutorial for creating simple animations? For example, I downloaded an animated "fire" font for use on our website but it's not animated when I use the font. It'd be nice if I could just make my own.

Shift-dragging centers it, but I have multiple documents (pngs with transparency) of the same dimensions and layers in a variety of positions that need to be preserved (I'm composting some 3d renders). Is this possible?

I'm trying to line up two images one on top of the other with opacity set so I can see both.in Liquefy (CS4). One is background, the other is Layer 1. How do I move either one roughly in place over the other so I can start adjusting edges so the two profiles match? Hand doesn't move anything.

is it possible to change position of a layer group in new timeline? I only see opacity keyframes. Seems like I can convert to smart object to do it, but rather not do that.

When creating a new layer and positioning it in the active frame, the position is sometimes wrong when returning to that frame.
1. create multiple frames in the timeline
2. create a layer and position it somewhere in the image
3. view another frame
4. return to the original frame and the position has changed
Positioning the layer again seems to work, it doesn't move by itself when moving between frames, but remains in position.

i'm looking to select a block reference, take it's wcs position, translate the coordinates to the current ucs and then create an xline using those translated coordinates. simple, right?
i simplified some code to test that i could properly build an xline in a current ucs. i just threw in static point3d values instead of grabbing them from another object. it worked as expected:
<CommandMethod("test")> _ Public Sub test() 'get the active document, editor and database Dim acDoc As Document = Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument Dim acDocEd As Editor = acDoc.Editor Dim acCurDb As Database = acDoc.Database 'start a transaction Using acTrans As Transaction = acCurDb.TransactionManager.StartTransaction() 'open the table for read Dim acBlkTbl As BlockTable acBlkTbl = acTrans.GetObject(acCurDb.BlockTableId, OpenMode.ForRead) 'open the record for write Dim acBlkTblRec As BlockTableRecord acBlkTblRec =
[code]...
here, i revised the code so that a block reference's objectid is passed from another procedure, the origin is determined, translated to the current ucs and the points are tailored for the xline's basepoint and secondpoint. i threw in a few writemessages to ensure that the coordinates were indeed what i was looking for and they match up, but for some reason, the xline now fails to create itself.
'define the current ucs Dim ucsDesign As Matrix3d = acDocEd.CurrentUserCoordinateSystem 'start a transaction Using acTrans As Transaction = acCurDb.TransactionManager.StartTransaction() 'open the connector block for read Dim acBlock As BlockReference = acTrans.GetObject(idConnector, OpenMode.ForRead) 'save connector origin Dim ptOrigin As Point3d = acBlock.Position 'translate the point to the current ucs Dim ptUcsOrigin As Point3d = ptOrigin.TransformBy(ucsDesign.Inverse) 'show me the block position acDocEd.WriteMessage(vbLf & ptOrigin.ToString()) acDocEd.WriteMessage(vbLf & ptUcsOrigin.ToString()) 'open the table for read Dim acBlkTbl As BlockTable acBlkTbl = acTrans.GetObject(acCurDb.BlockTableId, OpenMode.ForRead) 'open
[code]...
i've rearranged this code multiple times, tried a couple different approaches, scoured the forums and even resorted to the less-than-elegant:
'create the xline Dim cmdString As String = "._xline " & ptUcsOrigin.X & "," & ptUcsOrigin.Y & "," & ptUcsOrigin.Z & " " & ptUcsOrigin.X & "," & ptUcsOrigin.Y + 1.0 & "," & ptUcsOrigin.Z & " " acDoc.SendStringToExecute(cmdString, True, False, False)
but i need to use the xline object after i've created it, so this sendstringtoexecute crap won't work.

I didn't find a way to know the position (x, y) of a layer. I found the dimensions of a layer but not the position. Gimp knows that bacause when I open a file the layers are positioned but I can't find a way to know the layer's position, also with a script.

Is there a way to find out the position of a layer after you move it from the starting point of 0,0 and 0 rotation?
I'm trying to line-up two images and the bottom layer is the reference image so I move the top layer in the x,y direction and rotate the layer until it looks good. But instead of saving I want the new x,y location along with the rotation number to enter into an Imagemagik bash script.
I'm using GIMP 2.6.11, but will update to 2.8 if necessary.

I've found "randomize layer order" scripts, but how would you randomize the layer positions within the grid to easily create unique cards?

Is it possible to setup a block so that an attribute position remaines fixed (absolute to drawing) when moving the block?
I've been playing around with creating a Coordinate Block by following these instructions: [URL] ........
What I would like is to be able to set the position of the Coordinate Label and Coordinate Object independently, so that if I move one in the drawing, it doesn't move the other. I've looked into Dynamic Blocks, and the "Lock Position" parameter. I can move the attribute independently, but still everytime I move the block, the attribute moves too.
Our company uses a custom Sheet/Coordinate system to follow flyoffs across a drawing, and I'm trying to learn how to automate the process. It's completely manually right now, so any changes to a drawing creates a lot of work renumbering these flyoffs.

I'm wondering how you can get the same orange effect that is on this photo. I tried putting an orange layer on top of my image and then doing multiply. It makes the sky the same thick orange (which I like), but the building I have in my image doesn't get as saturated.

I am trying to create a 3d object with depth and lighting that I can export to After Effects for a 3D logo with movement. I assume that this is pretty easy with text or an object created in photoshop but the image I am trying to extrude and make a 3d object is a layer I cut out from a jpeg. I am aware that I can wrap that layer around an object, but I am looking for the cut out object to be 3D. Do I need to convert the cutout layer to a vector? Is there a simple way to do that? Is this possible through illustarator or photoshop?

Since I started with the 2014 version of 3dsmax Design I have serious troubles with the Viewport Clipping settings. The yellow arrows 'resets' about 90 percent of the times when I change viewport and sometimes also when I attach objects together. Ideally the top arrow should be below the top yellow line in the viewport setting and the lower one above. What I mean by that they 'resets' is that the top one for no reason goes all the way to the top and the lower goes all the way to the bottom. The result is a very weird looking viewport. Sometimes both goes to the top or bottom and the whole scene is invisible.
If I had been new with 3dsmax I had given up a long time ago not understanding why my hole scene either disappears completely or looks weird. I consider going back to 2012 now since its frustrating adjusting the clipping arrows every minute. Slows down my work.

When creating a new layer using the icons in the adjustments palette and holding ALT in CS5 a dialog box would appear before creating the new layer. At this point you could rename the layer change the blending mode etc.
In CS6 I do not get the dialog box to appear the new layer is just created. I've tried to reset my preference twice and this has not work.

I am struggling with clipping masks and after a few hours of scouring the internet and trying different techniques, I am left no closer to my end result than from when I started.
I am creating a banner. The banner contains 1 background image and some text. I'd also like to include 9 photos on top of the background image, all bound by a textured border. I have created the borders for all 9 images and have placed them on the background. Now, my questions is how I make these base layers of a clipping mask. I want the the mask to show the image, even through some of the textured border.
I know how to create the actual clipping mask of the image to be placed in the border. My question lies entirely within the base layer/border layer.

In Elements 9 I want to select and copy a layer which is partly empty. This is to make a layer mask. The non-empty part is too complicated to select using any of the Select tools. If I use Select All, then copy and paste to a new layer, the pasted image is not in the right place - it has been displaced significantly. I am then not able to use it to create a layer mask, because it will not be properly placed above the original image. Why does this displacement happen ? Is there something I can do to avoid it ?

For some odd reason Autocad will not maintain my workspace customizations. For example I typically can customize my workspace by toggling which toolbars are shown and where they are placed. Then I can close autocad and when I start it again all the customizations are present. Now when I start autocad it loads the default workspace. I should have to customize my workspace every time I start autocad. I also shouldn't have to create any custom workspace profile or anything like that. AutoCad used to simply save any GUI customizations made automatically. I need it to get back to that.
