When creating a new layer using the icons in the adjustments palette and holding ALT in CS5 a dialog box would appear before creating the new layer. At this point you could rename the layer change the blending mode etc.
In CS6 I do not get the dialog box to appear the new layer is just created. I've tried to reset my preference twice and this has not work.
The Photoshop CS6 Info Palette is not showing before and after in Grouped Adjustment Layers. It only shows the after values on both sides of the Palette.
The two macs with this problem are:

I'm trying to customize the Layer Palette with icons that I mostly use but it does not work. It have been possible in all previous versions. Is it just me or is it a bug or something new that we have to live with?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I am using adjustment layers in PS 13.0.3 (mountain lion), I notice that the info palette is not giving me a before and after readout of the adjustment.e.g. I add a curves adjustment layer and remove some cyan from the highlight end, I can see on screen that cyan is removed but the info palette gives me 2 readings, both the same. This can make it difficult if I want to remove an exact amount of colour. I have the info palette is set up the same as every previous version of photoshop I have used, 1st reading actual colour, 2nd reading cmyk. I know this is a bit difficult to explain so I have included an image showing the palette, CS6 on the left and CS5 on the right, same image, same coordinates. CS5 is showing that 4% cyan has been removed, was 18% now 14%, CS6 is showing what it is now.

I work in prepress and do a lot of colour correction for books and magazines so I need to know the before & after readings. Is this a bug/feature??
I have created a tool palette with all the blocks that I use on a daily basis. The only thing is that now when I put my cursor on the palette I have no icons just words. When I adjust the size to the palette my icons appear.
My view option is set to text and icons.
I have CS6 and I can not see the names, eyeball icons, lock icons and arrow icons in the Layers Palette. I see that the layers are there and when I hover my mouse over the layers the names and icon show up but they disappear once I click off the layers palette.

I use a lot of adjustment layers and they're often applied to the previous layer. Is there a keyboard shortcut to automatically "Use pervious layer as clipping mask" without going through the dialogue box or manually applying in the layers palette(Option-click between layers)?

Just recently I have been sending the icons as BMP at their request but the icons now seem to have the halo effect creepin into them. They want BMP files and they use the upper left pixel of the icon to determine the transparency in the icon as they need a gradient background, and active state and the icons are desaturated when not used.
Anyway, here is the procedure I am trying to solve this but something is going wrong.
1. I use a 3D program to make 3D objects then render the image with a white background at 300x300 as a JPEG. No Antialiasing.
2. I open a new image in CS2, drag the rendered image into it then use the magic wand with antialiasing turned off and tolerance of 30-40 to remove the white background.
3. Then I use Layers>matting.Defringe to remove any artefacts. At this point the icon looks fine.
4. I resize the image to 26x26 and choose Bicubic interpolation. Finally I drag it into a PSD document as a layer.
5. To get the image into a usable format I have a background layer of pink (RGB: 255,0,255) so that it can define the transparency then I save it as a 24bit BMP.
Problem is, when the developer puts it into the program it has a noticable pink halo around it. I cannot do any more to remove antialiasing which he tells me is the problem.
Changing file format is not an option...has to be BMP.

this is how i usually duplicate a layer, by dragging and dropping to the new layer icon at the bottom of the palette. it is not letting me do that.
also, when i select a a single, or group of layers and move them around in the palette, i thought it used.
I used to be able to select a layer (getting the Marching ants of a layer on a image) via the Layers palette (I think I used to press ctrl + mouse-click) but now, in Photoshop CS2, I can't get it to work.

(Usually you have a choice of having it affect either JUST the layer beneath it (through a clipping mask), or ALL of the layers beneath it.

When you open an image with adjustment layers, what determines what is selected, the background or the adjustment layer? It seems sometimes it's one or the other, and I don't know the logic. Personally I would prefer that the image always opens with the background layer selected.

I have tried using various icon programs (IconBuilder, etc) but they never seem to work for me.
Since i am on a Mac, standerd icon programs just dont cut it, because im looking to create high-quality icons like those found on Pixel Girl (a great resource for both Mac + Windows Icons).
I am far from a beginner, but i can't seem to find any tutuorials that apply to this topic.
I have a bunch of icons made for PC's that I'd like to use on the Mac. When I download the icons and unzip the file most come with two icons. An ico and a png image. Originally I could not get either to open in Photoshop so I got this little freeware prgm. (Icon Grabber) that converts icons to tiff files. Now I can drag it into PS and work on it. When I open it it shows up as having a transparent background. All is well. I then save it as a png so it will work on the Mac. All is well again and I can use the icon BUT it's showing up on the Mac as having a white background even though in PS it showed up ?as a transparent background. I have tried saving it to SuperPNG which supports and saves transparencies.

How can I select a shape on a layer in PSD in the layers palette?
In my past version of PSD, I was able to simply click on the Layer and hold either select or control to have marching ants go around my image - but with CS2 I am not able to do that.
I'm new to Paint shop. Is it possible to clip an adjustment layer or image to just the layer below it like in Photoshop? Or maybe Paint shop calls it something else?

View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is a bug, or has been previously reported, but using large thumbnails in the layers panel with copied shape layers. You can see that Shape 2 shows content, but the thumbs on the copies appear empty. Not life and death, but those thumbs are useful - when they work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn CS3, my workhorse editor until recently, when I double clicked an adjustment layer it opened up the initial settings window. There I was able to tab browse through the variables, make whatever adjustments I wanted, hit enter, and live happily ever after. I haven't been able to figure out how do do this in CS6, which has the 'properties' panel for making changes to adjustment layer settings.
