I have CS6 and I can not see the names, eyeball icons, lock icons and arrow icons in the Layers Palette. I see that the layers are there and when I hover my mouse over the layers the names and icon show up but they disappear once I click off the layers palette.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a rather complex piece of artwork in Illustrator CC with the latest Mac OS, with several objects on each layer.
Whenever I click an object, its layer in the Layers palette auto-expands, pushing all of the main layers off of the edge of the palette. I then have to click the little arrow to collapse the layer so I can see all of the other layers and (quickly?) get to the one I need.
I am using a Magic Trackpad (don't ask) so this task is particularly arduous, as the cursor is often somewhat difficult to maneuver when attempting to target small UI elements. My display height is only 1050 px, so naturally I would rather not make the layer thumbnails any smaller (25 px.)
Is it possible to disable or defeat the auto-expanding behavior? Placed in bold
The 'Template' checkbox gets activated in Layer Options dialog box, and the box gets closed, then, the Layer name and several icons at the bottom of the Layer Panel disappear.The Layer is still there without a name, and rolling over the icons on the Layers Panel I can see the Tool Icons.Illustrator Prefs were trashed/restored using the Opt-Shift-Command restart shortcut.

And what happened next...
I dunno if it is me, kde, gimp, or what.. but I can be editing along..yada yada.. do this, do that, and then look over and the toolbox on the left is missing most of the icons.. kinda like the scaling is wrong and the icons are pushed off the bottom under the tool options underneath it. sometimes it takes the usual layout with like 5-6 icons wide and replaces it with only 2 wide, sometimes only 1 wide. I tried stretching it and bringing it back, floating and redocking.. all with no fixy.
The only way I have figured out how to "undo" this is to close and restart gimp. Which is a pain when you have a mess of open files in various states of not done yet..
I just installed the 2011 update (recomended). Now, on restart, all my butto icons are gone! The buttons are still active but I can't see them. They highlight when I roll over but the icon doesn't show up.
What can I do???

Seen this bug before on Mac OSX 10.6.8..CS6 Illustrator 16.0.3 Missing thumbnails and labels in the layers palette.Also note missing selections at the bottom of the palette.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIf I click on an eye symbol the symbol disappears, but not the elements on the screen like you should expect. There's also a weird behavior with the lock symbols. If I lock a layer, I can click the paths anyway. The lock symbols doesn't work anymore. The whole layers palette is useless now. I tried to remove the whole "Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings" folder, but that had no positive effect.

On my large screen at home this is fine but I work in a college with small monitirs and its very frustrating indeed. Work around or am I just being dim? this only happens in PS6 not 5.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to follow along with a video at Lynda.com on AI CS6.However, in the video, Deke McClelland is showing the TEXT "Align" on the top Control Panel.On my screen, it's not a text, but a small icon. When I click it, I don't get the same options he does.
I've searched and searched and can't find how to get MY screen to look like his. I have even tried to "Reset Essentials" (the workspace he's using) and still no luck.
I have a section cut that I use from my tool palette that disappears from paperspace. It shows up in model space and everything else I use from my tool palette shows in both model and paperspace. I have all layers on, unfrozen, etc. They are not on my defpoints layer either. It just seems to be that particular block that is disappearing. Its the strangest thing. One day it worked just fine and the next it started doing this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem in Autocad2011model space when I drag blocks from the tool palette they disappear. The block initially appears when I grab it and drag it across the model space. Then when I go to insert it in position on the drawing as per normal it then vanishes. If I insert the same blocks using the 'insert block' method the blocks insert normally.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have created a tool palette with all the blocks that I use on a daily basis. The only thing is that now when I put my cursor on the palette I have no icons just words. When I adjust the size to the palette my icons appear.
My view option is set to text and icons.
When creating a new layer using the icons in the adjustments palette and holding ALT in CS5 a dialog box would appear before creating the new layer. At this point you could rename the layer change the blending mode etc.
In CS6 I do not get the dialog box to appear the new layer is just created. I've tried to reset my preference twice and this has not work.
I'm trying to customize the Layer Palette with icons that I mostly use but it does not work. It have been possible in all previous versions. Is it just me or is it a bug or something new that we have to live with?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI often will copy a layer in the layers palette via option drag. If the original layer is linked to another, the new layer is also linked to the orginal layer I copied as well as any other layers that original was linked to.
Is there anyway to option drag to copy a layer in the layers palette without the new layer being linked?
I am experiencing two problems. One is the tool icons in Photoshop are disappearing on the screen. I move the cursor and see nothing on my screen.
The second problem is at other times the proper tool icon and function is not showing up and working. I select for example the pen tool and the hand tool icon show up and the function works as the hand tool not the pen tool?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing an odd problem with Xref's lately in AutoCAD 2006LT. I noticed that some of the layers in my viewports are missing. I have unloaded the xref, purged the drawing and reloaded the xref and each time it comes back up missing the majority of the layers in the external reference. I've checked to make sure that there are no xref's associated with the xref file to ensure that it's not an issue with a sub xref as well. I have downloaded a trial copy of 2013 and it mentions unreconciled layers and shows all layers in the view ports. In my troubleshooting I've checked for frozen layers, layers turned off, the location of Xref'ed files, ensured that no xref’s are on frozen or turned off layers and several other possible problems.
What seems strange to me is that I can see a few layers but not all layers associated with the xref in AutoCAD 2006LT. I've also checked to make sure that the layers are not frozen in the viewport as well. I use that feature often and depend on it for the drawing that I do.
If I start a drawing from scratch or go back several generations I can see all the layers just fine. It only seems to affect the latest generation of this current projects files.
I am missing the icons for the "ON/OFF", "FREEZE", and "LOCK" in the Layer Properties Manager in AutoCAD 2010. Recently upgraded computer to 64-bit and had to re-install 2010. Since then, it takes forever to reload the Properties Manager. Adding new layers, trying to turn layers on/off, freeze layers, etc. causes the Manager to reload. The file I am working with is only 75 kb, tiny in comparison to files I usually work with. My co-worker has a 64-bit and 2010 as well, and her Properties Manager is working just fine. Do I have to reload 2010?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am just learning Illustrator. I use a PC at work, and a laptop at home. I have several layers of text in my document. The text is larger on my laptop than it is on my PC. The "character information" doesn't change (if it's 100 on my PC, it's 100 on my laptop), and the placement doesn't change, just the size of text. All other items such as placed objects and drawn graphics stay the same. I have been saving the file into a server folder, then copying it over to my laptop desktop at home. Have not had this happen in Photoshop or In Design. Is this a document issue, a preferences issue or a font issue?

I am trying to get a white layer with see through writing which reveals the background image underneath. (Almost like I have put a stencil over a photograph). I have discovered this is called a clipping mask.
However, I am having difficulty using a clipping mask over multiple text layers. It seems to only do it to one layer directly beneath. I do not want to merge the text layers as I want to mess about with the design a fair bit.
