Photoshop :: Increasing Ppi From 72 To 300

Apr 9, 2008

I'm by no means a graphic designer, but my job is having me create a 3' x 2' poster (300 ppi) using Photoshop CS3. I am trying to place a few logos on the poster but am having difficulties. My logos are currently about 20 inches wide, and I would like to keep them this width. However, the resolution is 72 ppi. Obviously when I change it to 300 ppi, Photoshop automatically decreases the image size. Is it possible to make the logos 300 ppi and keep the original document sizes?

Or, alternatively, I would like to print this poster on canvas with a local printing company. Is it possible for me to create a smaller version of the 3' x 2' poster (perhaps with a smaller ppi?) without losing too much of the clarity, which the printing company could then blow up to 3'x2'?

They claim to need 12 MP minimum to avoid pixlelation.

Photoshop :: Increasing Width And Color Of Slider

Dec 7, 2008

I want to center images at higher magnifications. Just because you can put your cursor on the IMAGE and use the scroll wheel to make it go up and down doesn't mean you can make the image go right and left at the same time. Personally, I'd like to continue to use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out (done in preferences, yes) and put the cursor on either the vertical and horizontal slider bars and use the wheel to move the image up or down or right or left. But if you've ever tried to place your cursor on these narrow-*** slider bars you know it's hell to hit those things very
easily because they are barely 1/4" wide--if that.

So the question remains: How can a user increase the width
of these narrow little bars? Is there a way to do this?

Also the color of the bars is very near the same color and value as the
area surrounding it, making it difficult to see. Is it possible to alter the
color of the bars to something more visible, like say, a brighter color and/or different value

Photoshop :: File Size In Camera Raw - Increasing Or Not

Jul 27, 2009

in the "Workflow Options" of Camera Raw there is the option to increase the file size by setting the Crop Size to a greater value then the native of the file itself.
I would like to understand if upsampling with this option can bring advantages (and/or cons) to the image quality, and in that case which ones, in particular for the printing of such files in A3+ and A2.

Photoshop :: Increasing Size Of Image Without Getting It Blurred Or Pixelated

Jun 21, 2004

I'd like to write an article for my blog about increasing the size of the images without getting it blurred or pixelated.

I usually use a combination of facet and despeckle to improve the resolution of the oversized image.

I've also tried a plugin that supposedly resizes the images and worked on a fractal based concept, but to be honest the results were not very convincing.

Photoshop :: Image File Size Increasing When Changed To CMYK?

Aug 21, 2013

When converting the colour of a Jpeg to CMYK in Photoshop CS5 the file size is increasing.

The original image is 352KB and after saving as CMYK it is 2.1MB

Why is this happening and how can I stop it?

I'm using a lot of images for a print project so need to keep file sizes small with resolution of 300dpi. The image dimensions are really small, only about 30mm high so they shouldn't be this large a file size

I am using a clipping path but this doesn't seem to be effecting file size (I checked by saving it as RGB with a clipping path which stayed small, and by saving one without a clipping path in CMYK which was huge)

VideoStudio :: X2 Pro Memory Usage Kept Increasing?

Jul 20, 2011

I am still using VS X2. With my old Canon digital camera (avi files) I have been successful in editing and burning many avi projects of 2 hr duration. Since this camera broke down, I bought a Canon Vixia HF M31 HD video camera and recorded in XP+ resolution (1,440 x 1,080). The footage was then saved to the hard drive using the Canon provided Pixella Imagemixer 3 SE as mts files.

No problems were encountered in editing the footage with added captions and added background music (VSP file). Even when I rendered the VSP project of 30 min duration, it did not show any problems.

However, when during editing I played the project with or without added background music, after about 1 min VS X2 stopped working. sometimes an error message warned me "Out of Memory".

So, I added my system memory to the maximum 8 GB and VS X2 still stopped working. I monitored the memory usage with Windows Task Manager and saw that during the play back the memory usage kept going up and when it reached about 900 MB used, VS X2 stopped. So, when playing back the VSP file, I had to stop the playback when the memory used was around 850 MB in which case it dropped back to around 110 MB. Then I could continue playing and repeated the "stop" and "continue".

I edited the mts files as MPEG-2 files. Here is the properties of the edited file:

- File Format: NTSC HDMV
- Video Type: H.264 Video, Upper Field First
- Attributes: 24 bits, 1440x1080, 16:9
- Data rate: Variable (max 12000 kbps)
- audio Dolby digital 48,000 Hz, bit rate 256 kbps, layer: none

My questions:

1. Is the Upper field first correct?

2. Should I have edited the mts files as avi files in VS Project Properties?

3. If 2) above would not be possible, is there a way to convert all the mts files first to avi files using what software before editing with VS?

VideoStudio :: Audio Files Length Increasing

Jan 6, 2012

I use audacity to record audio from my microphone. Everything was working fine, until I changed some settings for my sound card. Nothing was changed for audacity or X3.

However, the length of my file in audacity (and in iTunes) is 33:08... but in X3 it imported as 33:34. I was so confused the first time that I re-did everything... and I have the exact same issue the 2nd time around. Since the length is fine in audacity and iTunes, it has to be an issue with X3 importing it.

The file is an mp3, 128kbps, 44100 Hz, stereo.

GIMP :: Set Two New Shortcuts (increasing And Decreasing) Value 1 By 25 Points

Mar 31, 2013

In my case value 1 is opacity which has range about (0;100>

I find [decrease value 1 more] shortcut not significant enough for it changes value by 10 points, while [decrease value 1 relative] when its value is (50;100> also changes it by about 10 points and even less when its value is below about 50.

My question is: Is it possible to set two new shortcuts (increasing and decreasing) value 1 by 25 points? Is there maybe a recording option in gimp like in photoshop.

3ds Max :: Enhancing Grain Pattern Without Increasing The Texture?

Jul 19, 2012

I'm fairly new to using bump maps and have a question about a wood grain bump map.

I am using a bmp file in the material editor for the wood grain, along with a UVW modifier to make the grain run differently on the different pieces of the furniture. I was hoping to "enhance" the appearance of the grain on the wood, so I thought I would try a bump map by using the same bmp file and set it to 30%. While there is much more texture to the grain than wanted, I'm wondering why the vertical instances of the wood do not seem to have the map applied?

Aside from that question, is there a better way of enhancing the grain pattern without necessarily increasing the texture?
