May 16, 2011how to achieve this sort of look with a Canon DSLR and photoshop..There seems to be a lack of complete black and white in either of the photos. i see the discoloration and everything, i just need to know what i can do to achieve this sort of effect.

I'm aware this can be achieved with the pen tool. Path stroked with a brush with some settings altered. Most likely Fade.
This is where I am so far:
Problems:
I cant get BOTH ends to fade.
A long path wont get fully stroked since the fade happens too soon.
Photoshop :: Faded Photo Edges To Transparent Background
Jan 12, 2013I've been asked to create a set of photos with a faded background. My boss gave me the attached image as an example. I initially thought it would be fairly easy. I could add a layer mask and a Gaussian Blur. I have successfully faded the edges, but I have only managed to do it with a color fill layer, I can't work out how to get the background transparent without it looking jagged and ugly. I need to effect to look like the attachment.

Apr 4, 2013The issue I run into is when I make a photo black and white and bring out a single color by selecting the areas of color with the magic selector. Once I have the colored area selected I either invert and turn the rest of the image black and white, or I will create a new duplicate layer and delete out the content in one layer and eventually merge the color and black and white layers to make my final image.
My problem is I always get a white gap between the colors and black and white images, or layers. I have tried to use the refine edge menu option, but this never solves the problem as the feather option, and move edge option do not cover the gap, they just move it.
I have resorted to using the healing brush to hide the line or merge the colored and black and white layers together. The issue with this is some times it is in a highly visible spot and the healing brush does not always make a great look. In other words you can tell that I merged two colors or images together.
I have also have this issue when I use the selection tool on images I blur certain portions of. It seems to happen any time I am using the selection toold and I assume there is a standard way of avoiding this.
I am using elements 11.

Feb 21, 2009Basically, I want to be able to create a glass effect on a square icon tile. I want the glass to be translucent so that the image behind the square icon tile is blurry (hence the translucency). I know how to create effect if I want it over some user-defined background layer, but what I am trying to do is a bit different. I need to import a PNG file into a theme program, and it uses this glass tile. I want the glass tile to have the translucent effect, but the problem is, I can only get the effect to work if I create a layer over a user-defined background layer. What I want is to have the translucent effect over whichever background is used in my theme program. I am not sure if this is possible to do with a PNG file, or even possible at all. If anyone could shed some knowledge on this I would greatly appreciate it.
