View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been asked to create a set of photos with a faded background. My boss gave me the attached image as an example. I initially thought it would be fairly easy. I could add a layer mask and a Gaussian Blur. I have successfully faded the edges, but I have only managed to do it with a color fill layer, I can't work out how to get the background transparent without it looking jagged and ugly. I need to effect to look like the attachment.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on old vacation photos from the '70s (back when I could afford to take vacations). I'm now working on the first of what will probably be several that are faded, but not over the entire image - just parts of it.
I'm doing free selecting and playing with Levels, Curves, and Color Balance, but nothing seems to be working well. I think this is because some colors have faded more than others so there are areas that look purple when they should be brown or a mixture of colors.
Here's an example (which I hope will actually show):
It's not a very interesting photo but it's from my very first trip to Europe so I'd kind of like to make it prettier.
I have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.
I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).
Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.
So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).
I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).
And then my problem:
I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).
Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.
Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.
I want to add a new layout to drawing with paper size "A3". this is want i am trying with. We had a VBA script before as shown bellow.
For Each tlAcadLayout In ThisDrawing.layouts If tlAcadLayout.Name = "A3" Then blnLayout = True tlCurMedia = tlAcadLayout.CanonicalMediaName tlConfig = tlAcadLayout.ConfigName oldOrg = tlAcadLayout.PlotOrigin Exit For End If Next With tlAcadLayout .RefreshPlotDeviceInfo .ConfigName = "None"

I am looking to find a way to detemine the origin point of the paper background in the layout tab. I have a drawing border that has a tic mark in the lower left hand corner and I want to place that point at the lower left corner of the paper backgound.
View 1 Replies View Related way to change the background color (color outside the "paper" in paperspace?
The light gray that I can't seem to change, is suboptimal for me.
in paper mode
the space outside space is white in color
and i can not find the way to change it into black and can not change it in option-->drafting
In Civil 3D 2010, the color of the paper background was a darker color and I was able to have yellow text on top of it and be able to edit the text. Now with Civil 3D 2013, the color of the paper background in paper space is white and I can't read the yellow text. I know that you can either turn the paper background on or off, but is ther a way to change its color so that it is darker?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to PSE and I want to create an oval vignette in Photoshop Elements 10 with transparent background for printing on white paper using MS Publisher. Using the white background on inverse selection makes a slight line impression and either it should have a defined "frame" or nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?
I What I'm trying to do is take an image off the net (mainly Marvel and DC characters) and open them up in GIMP and making the "reverse" image of that file. So I will have the character twice, but when printed I can paste the two back to back and they both show the same image, back and front....hope that made sense.
Also, how would I put, lets say, 5 images on one sheet of paper? I don't want to print just one image on 1 sheet and waste so much paper. I'd like to get 4 -6 on 1 sheet of paper, print them out and glue them back to back for my paper miniatures.
I usually process or edit my images for the internet using 72 dpi and using dimensions that fits my liking. I want to process some photos for printing(i.e the paper used for printing family and social photos; I believe you understand what I mean?). please, what dpi or ppi do I use on gimp? Btw,what do photographers call such a paper?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to add a custom paper size to Gimp? I have a new HP wide format printer and was looking for a capability to customize the paper size. Hewlett Packard and Microsoft have said that the customization of paper size is application specific even though Microsoft tells you can customize paper size through server properties , which on my XP machine will not save the custom settings.
Note: This page, even though it is not a Microsoft page, shows what Microsoft tells you to do. [URL]
I used scale image to make a 2.314" x 3" image to print so it'll fit in a frame that I have for that same size. When I print it out the size looks great but it's over on the edge of the 4x6 paper and most of the picture is cut off. I tried, I should use print size and not canvas size but when I change the print size to 4x6 it also changes my canvas size back to 4x6. I still have my original so I can do this again but what I want is a 2.314"x3" image to print out on my 4x6 glossy paper.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been printing out a lot of black and white photos on photopaper on a HP Photosmart 7510e.
The printouts are very dark so I've had to boost the brightness levelsin GIMP prior to printing. The problem is that this takes extra timeand I also don't want to save these levels in the XCF file. I would say that (going by the Gamma Display Filter) the printouts are around40% of the brightness they ought to be.
I'm looking to create my own version of wallpaper that resembles the aqua style default wallpapers for the Mac OS x. Does anyone have a tutorial or know how do do this? I've played around with making curves with the pen tool and applying effects, but I can't seem to make it look as convincing as the original (attached).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of icons made for PC's that I'd like to use on the Mac. When I download the icons and unzip the file most come with two icons. An ico and a png image. Originally I could not get either to open in Photoshop so I got this little freeware prgm. (Icon Grabber) that converts icons to tiff files. Now I can drag it into PS and work on it. When I open it it shows up as having a transparent background. All is well. I then save it as a png so it will work on the Mac. All is well again and I can use the icon BUT it's showing up on the Mac as having a white background even though in PS it showed up ?as a transparent background. I have tried saving it to SuperPNG which supports and saves transparencies.
