I am trying to set a black layer mask and use the eraser tool to edit it. Unfortunately the eraser tool is not responsive. I recently did a round of software updates for CS6.

When I paint or use the gradient tool in "normal" mode with black it paints to transparent.Before the upgrade it was normal. I have this problem on both CS6 apps pc-and-laptop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI must have fat fingered something and I now when I click on the Eraser Tool or the Brush Mask Tool instead of getting a circle or square, I get and icon of the tool instead. They still work but they're harder to use without seeing the circle or square depending on what's selected. I've been using Corel for many years and never had this happen and I can't figure out how to switch back.

I can't use gradient overlay for fade either because I'm already using it and it won't fade the stroke anyway.

I want to put the black and white alpha jpg on the main image as a mask, but I can't figure out how to make a regular bitmap layer which is black and white into a mask. View 2 Replies View RelatedMy adjustment layers are set to come in with a white layer mask. But sometimes I want to fill that mask w. black after the adjustment and selectively brush-in the adjustment.
Is there a shortcut to quickly fill the mask w. black, w/o checking foreground/background colors; or choosing certain tools to be active; or Edit>Fill>Black, etc.? If not, how can I set my own keyboard shortcut? I don't see a Fill Black in the keyboard shortcut editing list.
I just installed PS CS6 and when I apply a layer mask to a layer I can paint black to hide the layer, but when painting white to restore the layer there is no effect. White paint will not restore the layer or modify the mask at all. The black paint works as usual to hide the layer, but how do I restore an area in a layer mask if not painting white?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes it appears that the white/black color combination that is automatically selected in layer mask editing may override the selected color combination outside of layer mask editing.
Example:
1) Open Photoshop.
2) Select two colors: white/white.
3) Create two blank documents, each with an empty Layer 1.
4) In one document, add a layer mask to Layer 1. The colors should have been automatically switched to black/white as the layer mask is selected.
5) In this document, use the gradient tool to fill the layer mask with black/white.
6) Switch to the other document, and notice that the color selection is again white/white.
7) In this other document, use the gradient tool to fill Layer 1. Notice that the layer is filled with black/white instead of white/white as selected.
I have 3 layers.
The first is at the top. It's a radial gradient which is set to the layer blending mode "Color".
The second is in the middle. It is a black and white difference cloud layer that is set to overlay.
At the bottom is my third layer. It is supposed to be a bunch of stars. By stars, I mean a noise filter applied to a black canvas.
The problem is that if I "blend visible" or "blend down", it looks nothing like what it showed me when i turned on the visibility on on all of the layers. It also looks completely different when i zoom in.
Even though the strength of the blur tool has been set to 100%, the image mode is set to RGD, and I'm applying the blur tool to the right layer, it has no effect whatsoever.

I have 2 layers and I want to mask one through the other. I've attached a png showing what I want. I tried to attach an .xcf file, but it won't do it, which seems strange for a gimp forum. Anyway, one layer is the text (black outline) and one layer is a colorful background. In the xcf, the background layer is entirely filled with the colorful stuff, but I want it to only show through the interior of the letters (as shown in the png).

I have been using Gimp for awhile (love it!) and have always used layer masks with no problems. But for some reason when I create a layer mask by filling in an area with black it isn't 100% opacity. Everything seems to show 100% opacity, but I can see the layers underneath (the mask is maybe at 90%??). If I "show layer mask" it is black where it should be and white where it should be, it doesn't look transparent. All my layers are set to "normal" mode. I'm at a lost as to what setting I must have changed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having trouble with the reselect tool for a while now. I often select something and then use new layer via copy ( J). The problem is that I cannot reselect after doing that (the option is grayed out), and it doesn't matter if I do the new layer copy with the shortcut or menu.
I am using CS5 with Mac 10.8.4, just recently switched from 10.6.8 (it hasn't worked in either). I do know that I have successfully used reselect after J before, but it was on a work computer -- I believe that computer was running 10.6.8 but it might have been CS4 if I recall correctly.
There are definitely workarounds like saving a selection or path, but they are still a little slower to use when it is something that I don't need to keep around for a while. I sometimes can use command-click on the layer icon but that selects the newly copied pixels, which can sometimes be different than what I had selected -- for example, if I copied a portion of a layer of linework, it will select the lines alone but not the area that I had.
When I use Patch Tool in Normal mode, photoshop leaves a transparent mark on the replacement area.

get my pen (Wacom Intuos 2) to work properly with dodge tool like the mouse?It is the dodge effect was made by mouse..It is by the pen (same brush size)
The brush becomes too small and has a hardness effect, not smooth at all. If I size up the brush real large it's still not right (like in lower corner) and it's hard to control because I hardly see the brush movement. Pressing the pen tip on the tablet pen/mouse mode didn't.
I have PS CS2 & CS3, at first, when I used the pen tool in CS2, it would't do the simulate pressure. When I got CS3, at first I was delighted to see that here the simulate pressure DID work! But after just one use, it my joy collapsed, again the simulate pressure does not work!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using photoshop CS6 and am trying to make a nice logo for my website. I used photoshop through high school so I know little basic things about the program. Anyways, I'm creating a logo from a tut on youtube, it says to hit "ctrl i" which makes the background black. After that I select a darkish grey as my foreground color, then I hit the gradient tool and set it to "radial gradient." Now I drag the mouse across the document and let go but nothing happens. I then tried it with a white background and it worked fine, but I want the background to be black. I made sure that it was on normal, the opacity is 100% and everything seems correct to what the tutorial was showing me. He uses a different photoshop than me so I don't know if that's what causes it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I am adding a leaf to the waterfall image. The leaf is on it's own layer with a layer mask, and was moved into position without a problem. A drop shadow was added with Layer Styles, but when trying to move the layer again, the mask moved, but the layer stayed behind.
I checked for Auto select, which was off. I unlinked the mask, tested, relinked the mask, and tested again. Same problem. Eventually it started working OK after I tried moving with first the layer active, and then the mask active, and swapping this state about three times. I could not get it to misbehave again after this.
Nothing was locked. Auto select was off. Other layers all moved OK. I can find no explanation, and think of no user error (touch wood).
I am having a strange problem in Photoshop CS 6 (Mac) - Dutch version.
When I paste a vector shape (made in Illustrator) into Photoshop, the Layer styles don't seem to work the way they should.
When I place (CMD+V) the shape into Photoshop I choose "Paste as Pixels".
What I want to do is to multiply an illustration (I made in Illustrator) with a photo structure.
I used to do it all the time in CS5 and never had a problem with it. In CS6 I can't get it work the way I want it to.
Strangely enough it does work the way it should when I use an illustration that I made in Photoshop (same settings).
So it seems that there is a problem when I want to apply layer styles on a vector shape (even when it is paste as pixels).
