Photoshop :: Layer Mask Brush / Gradient Tool Not Working In Black
Feb 15, 2013I have cannot paint in black to conceal on a layer mask. I have "NORMAL" mode set and the foreground color is set to black. When I paint or use the gradient tool in "normal" mode with black it paints to transparent.Before the upgrade it was normal. I have this problem on both CS6 apps pc-and-laptop.

Jun 2, 2013I've been using adjustment layers (curves) and creating a dark / light layer, and then using a brush with opacity of say 30-50% to paint onto the mask to show dark / light in selected areas of an image.
Until yesterday this was working fine. Now however, my brush is appearing pixelated, and scattered about like an airbrush or spray paint. Rather than all the brush being smooth. Even at 100% opacity, not all of the pixels are altered, instead there are clearly visible (when zoomed in) pixels which are lightened / darkened, and some which have been totally unaffected, which leads to a horrible pixelated effect.

Nov 24, 2008I have Photoshop CS2 and I am trying to "fix" a photo. I'm using a tutorial,and it worked on a previous photo but seems to have quit on me. I made a new layer from the original layer, used filter> other> high pass (set to 3.5) then image> adjustments>desaturate. Inverted the layer added a vector mask and inverted that as well. I set the blending mode to overlay, and the foreground color to white.

Aug 30, 2007I have an action that I created in Photoshop CS2. I used layer masks to be able to edit each layer. All of the masks work fine except for one. On this one layer (we'll call it layer 1) the mask works fine at first, but if I click onto another layer and then come back to layer 1, the mask won't work!
Instead of painting to reveal the layer beneath it, the brush starts painting black.
Why would the layer mask work fine until I click on another layer?

Nov 13, 2012Basically, when I go to view the layer mask by holding alt and clicking on the layer mask it doesn't function. Along with this problem, when I go to toggle my adjustment layers on and off, by holding alt and clicking on the eye symbol next to the background layer... again this doesn't work.
Im not sure if I have accidently clicked on something that has disabled these functions or its just a bug.

May 29, 2012So I am adding a leaf to the waterfall image. The leaf is on it's own layer with a layer mask, and was moved into position without a problem. A drop shadow was added with Layer Styles, but when trying to move the layer again, the mask moved, but the layer stayed behind.
I checked for Auto select, which was off. I unlinked the mask, tested, relinked the mask, and tested again. Same problem. Eventually it started working OK after I tried moving with first the layer active, and then the mask active, and swapping this state about three times. I could not get it to misbehave again after this.
Nothing was locked. Auto select was off. Other layers all moved OK. I can find no explanation, and think of no user error (touch wood).

Nov 20, 2012I am having problems with the free style tools, brush tool, lasso tool, etc. when I open Photoshop everything works fine but as soon as I press any key, the brush tool makes just one dot instead of a line, I can't slide any adjustment bars, like to make opacity from 0% to 100% or change diameter of the brush, any movement in the mouse is like I just made a single click, I wait around 10 minutes and everything is ok again.

Jul 20, 2009photoshop has decided to immobilize the lock transparent pixels and more importantly the lock image pixels, therefore not allowing me to paint.
Im trying to use the brush tool with the curves layer to brush away bits i don't want to edit in the layer. the brush tool comes up in the history box but nothing is happening on the image.
Im pretty sure i need to unlock the lock image pixels button but have not idea how or why this has happened in the first place.

Jun 21, 2013Using Photoshop CC, if you have a vector mask on a layer and attempt to crop the image, the vector mask shifts incorrectly after the crop is completed. The image is garbled. If I rasterize the vector mask to a standard layer mask, the crop works successfully.
I've checked to make sure that there are no numbers in the crop tool options. Nothing appears to be set incorrectly.

Here's my problem: Once I have selected my Source, I go to the area of the picture I want to modify and Left-Click and start to drag to cover the area I want to modify. Once I reach my end point, I release my mouse button. In doing so, the area I just modified returns to its original look before I modified it.
I have tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to work

They still work but they're harder to use without seeing the circle or square depending on what's selected. I've been using Corel for many years and never had this happen and I can't figure out how to switch back.

Well, this is not the case since I did define it with command Alt + left mouse click.

May 4, 2008The brush tool is no longer working - when I select on any of the brush tools, spray, Art burhs, spray , line, marker etc, they will not work. Jun 15, 2013When you try to rescale a layer using the Rescale Tool with a layer mask active, it scales of the mask, likewise if you select the layer it will scale the layer. Can I select both the layer and layer mask and scale the layer, thus it keeps the layer mask showing the desired masked area only. As the only way I can see currently is by applying the layer mask on the layer and then you can see the layer/s below to get the scaling that is desired. But I would like to keep the layer mask active for editing after scaling.
