View 3 Replies I have trial versions of both Photoshop Elements 12 and Lightroom 5.2 (trial licenses are both still active (i.e. not expired)). I'm looking to import my PSE12 catalog into Lightroom before I plunk down the money to buy it.
I cannot, however, locate the "File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog" option in LR5.
I may have originally installed LR 5 before installing PSE 12. So I uninstalled LR5 and reinstalled it. Still no luck - the option isn't there. Any other ways to force LR5 to look for the PSE 12 catalog? Will LR5 even recognize a PSE12 catalog?
Can I upgrade my PSE 5.0 Catalog directly to version 12.0 without loss of data (i.e. using backup-move-restore method)? the transition to 6.0 and also to 9.0 resulted in a different data format in the catalog file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a Windows user moving to a Mac. I did a backup of my (Windows) Photoshop Elements 11 catalog on an external drive in preparation for restoring in on my MacBook pro.
I've read a number of different posts on here regarding the restore process and gathered the following information:
1) Open up Elements 11 on the Mac and select File > Restore Catalog
2) Navigate to external drive and select the .tly file. (choose as source of restore)
Backup folder contents on external drive (former Windows Catalog to be used on Mac)
1) My backup folder contains about 9,500 items. The majority of the files all beging with a "B" and are jpg files. However, a small number also end with the following: .cache, .dat, and .xml. Should these be in the backup file?
2) I also have "Catalog.buc" and "Backup.tly" files within my backup folder on my external drive
Question(s)
1. Based on the information I've read online, it would appear that the only thing I want to be concerned with in the backup folder is the "Backup.tly" and the other files contained within my backup folder on my external drive aren't relevant to the restore. Is that correct?
2. Do I need to select anything else as part of the restore process after selecting the "Backup.tly" on my external drive? For example, do I have to point to a folder on my Mac for the restore to occur or will this happen automatically since I will already have Photoshop Elements 11 open on my MacBook pro when I am performing the restore process?
3) Currently, I have hundreds of "folders" under "My Pictures" on my Windows machine that separate out each event (Xmas 2010, Xmas 2011, etc.). Up until now I haven't been using the tagging feature within Photoshop. My initial intent was to copy the "My Pictures" folder from my C drive on my Windows machine to the "Pictures" folder on my Mac. (not planning to import them into iPhoto).
Will PSE 11 on my Mac be able to "find" this new path for the photos that were moved from my Windows machine to the "Pictures" folder on my Mac? Do I need to do something to make sure this happens during the restore process on my Mac?
As an example, the patch for a random photo in PSE 11 on my Windows machine looks like the following:
C:Documents and SettingsTomMyDocumentsMyPicturesXmas 2010 (as an example for one of the pictures contained in my Windows catalog)
Clearly, this path won't exist on my MacBook Pro and I just want to make sure I know whether or not I have to do something to redirect the pictures in my (restored) catalog.
Windows Explorer set to open image files with PSE11, but when I double click on image in WE it launches PSE11, but I then need to click on Open tab in PSE11 to get it into work window. PSE10 did not have this problem

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to import an Elements 8 catalog onto a different machine running Windows 8 and Lightroom 4. The existing work around seems to be for importing a catalog when one machine has both programs, but I don't think Elements 8 will run on Windows 8. The 'import catalog from Elements 8' option isn't showing in LR4 - presumably because it didn't see the catalog on install. The catalog is on a shared drive accessible to both machines...
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis has been an intermittent problem. I can't open Elements 5.0. It hangs up when trying to load an old catalog. Is there a way to work around the issue. I only use PSE 5.0 for slide shows, all other work is done in the full version of Photoshop.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PSE 12 download and the Catalog worked fine for two days but something changed and it now only opens videos, not photos. I've tried "reconnecting" with no change. View 7 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to LR4, I've not figured how to upgrade my catalog to LR4 also - currently it's labelled as 'Lightroom 2 catalog-2.lrcat". I'm slowly working through updating changes to 'render to LR4' but I'm uncertain if this will then automatically turn the catalog to LR4, or if I need to do this separately - and when?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had CS3 installed and registered on a Mac since 2008. I want to upgrade to CS5 but change to Windows as that's my preference with photo editing software (I already use Elements 7-8-9 on a PC).
Looking around, I just cannot find a definitive answer as to whether I can upgrade my Mac CS3 licence to a CS5 Windows licence - I see the question has been asked the other way round a few years back but the answers conflicted: Yes, no problem; No, no way; yes but very complicated, have to write to Adobe.
There is no way I can afford to buy the complete new product (I'm now a pensioner but have programmed since 1978 and been a photographer since 1961) so an upgrade is my only route. I don't want to buy the upgrade then find it's not working....
I recently upgraded to a new PC with Windows 8. I installed PS CS5 and some annoying glitches have popped up. Have others had problems and is there a fix available?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI saved a photo book and while I was working on it it got closed by accident. Now I cannot open it back up into the photobook program I was working on it in. I can find the "photobook" in my saved files and when I open it, it separates each page as a file so I have to open each page separately and work on them instead of having the whole book to look at and then I can flip through the pages of the photobook and decide which page to put my photo on. I have typed this into all the help systems but nothing comes up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed my upgrade to LR5 last night but it keeps giving me an error when I try to upgrade my LR4 catalog. It goes through the initial steps, stays at "preparing new searchable data" for a long time, then eventually stops and pops up the error message: "Unable to upgrade catalog. Lightroom encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom". I tried upgrading a smaller catalog that I don't use anymore and it worked fine. how I can get this catalog converted? Its my main catalog with all of my current years' images. For the time being LR 4 is working fine but I'd love to get 5 up and running.
