This has been an intermittent problem. I can't open Elements 5.0. It hangs up when trying to load an old catalog. Is there a way to work around the issue. I only use PSE 5.0 for slide shows, all other work is done in the full version of Photoshop.
My PSE 12 download and the Catalog worked fine for two days but something changed and it now only opens videos, not photos. I've tried "reconnecting" with no change. I suspect I need to replace the catalog. I have full backups with TLY and BUC files on external hard drives but I'm past my skill level to proceed.
We have 11000+ plus photos all carefully cataloged in Photoshop Album 1.0 on my old Windows XP PC. Our new PC is Windows 7 Home Premium with Photoshop Elements 9. How do I import our existing catalog and continue sorting our new photos into our old catalog?
My latest battle with PSE11 is trying to access my catalog in PSE11 via the Catalog Manager but it doesn't show up in the list.
The catalog is named My Catalog 2 is located at C:ProgramDataAdobeElements OrganizerCatalogsMy Catalog 2. It is the only catalog I use and is the one that opens up when I launch Organizer. But, for the life of me, I can't get it to show up in the Catalog Manager. The only catalog that shows up is the original catalog which is at a different location and was created when I installed PSE11 on my new computer (Thinkpad W530, Windows 8). I've tried the Custom Location option and browsing to the location, but still no dice. This catalog has thousands of pictures and was converted from my previous PSE6 catalog. How do I get the Catalog Manager to find my current active catalog?
I was importing into LR3 for the first time and while I was filling out info (renaming files), my MAC started to pinwheel. Finally I was forced to "force quit". Now when I try to relaunch LR from my alias or the HD it gives me this message; "LIghtroom cannot use the catalog because it is not writeable and cannot be opened".
i just installed LR version 3.6 trial yesterday and it end up failling to upload the previous LR catalog that i install in past and crash,
attach here is the error picture.
i have try to uninstall + reinstall it but same problem occured. The worst part it i have deleted the lightroom catalog permanently in my pictures folder and the img catalog that attach in the pictures.
i cannot open a catalog it says its already open by an instance of lightroom all other catalogs open but they do not containe all my photos any info would be great i have shut down and restarted the computer but the problem is still there
I can't open a certain LR catalog. It actually opens briefly, but then LR crashes within 5 seconds. No warning or dialog box shows up, the program just disappears.
I can open other catalogs, but these are old and are of no use to me. I have also deleted my preferences, but to no avail.
Is there any way to repair a corrupted catalog if you can't even keep it open?
I was working on an LR5 catalog yesterday (which I unfortantely didn't back up) and today it won't open. I don't even get an error message or a repair option, all LR does, is open a small grey window. LR is leaving the lock file after I close it down, but even after deleting it and restarting the computer LR won't open the catalog (which is on an external harddrive).
I've used LR since 2.0 and upgraded easily each time. I've purchased and loaded 5.3. Clicking on LR5 icon from desktop brings up message that my catalog named "xxx".
Lightroom will create a new catalog file in the destination indicated below. The previews will also be moved to this location and converted for use in LR 5.
I click "UPGRADE" and after a few hours of watching the little green line progress across the monitor nothing works" I've done this twice and rebooted the PC.
For the past 2 months, I have been working on images in LR 4.2. As of this morning, I am unable to open my LRCAT file. The error screen tells me the requested catalog is being used by another LR program. HUH? I have opened my Task Manager (windows 7) and nothing is running. I don't want to loose all the work on the images I have done up to this point.
I cannot open Lightroom catalog bc there is 'not enough room on the hard drive named.' I keep erasing more and more on this hard drive and still it does not work and keeps saying the same thing.
I just upgraded my processor and OS to Windows 7. I reinstalled Lightroom 3. When I try to open a catalog, I get an error message that it cannot be opened because it is not writable.
I have been trying to open lightroom but I keep getting a catalog error. I have uninstalled and installed almost three times and it still hasnt fixed it. I was learning how to use lightroom then I was just seeing what a catalog was I guess I did something wrong and i got the error. it says cant open dadsfamilypictures 101.jpg.ircat it was a whole file of pictures. I dont know how to get it to work.
Just upgraded to 3.6 and using Windows Vista 64bit. When I go to open a recent catalog I keep getting prompted to back-up the catalog eventhough the selected time between back-ups has not elapsed. It just always prompts me to create a backup whenever I exit the catalog or LR. When viewing catalog A and swithing to catalog B and exiting, when I start LR again it opens with catalog A instead of B. I re-checked the settings and LR is set to open to the previous catalog but it is not doing so.
My daughter turned off my MAC mid-session edit and now I can't load any pictures from any session let alone that session I was working on. I even tried to close out and back up and it won't back up the catalog..way to get my images back.
I tried to import a photo from a file on my computer. The Lightroom 3.6 program shut down. When I try and open the program, a message appears that says "Lightroom - Opening Catalog: DSC_2155.lrcat
Immediately after that appears on my screen a box appears that says "Adobe Photoshop has stopped working" underneath it reads "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Of course I never get notified and a solution is never available. I've tried deleting Lightroom and reloading the program but the same problem occurs.
I'm running LR 4.1 with ACR 7.1 on a Windows 7 64 bit OS.
I set my preferences to open most recent catalog.
I then open another catalog and do some stuff in the catalog but when I start LR next time it keeps going back to a different catalog. How can I change the settings so it either opens the most recent catalog or I get prompted for which catalog I'd like to open (I've tried both settings) and LR still keeps opening the same catalog.
I am having problems running Lightroom. I re-installed and I get a windows error.
I used the trial for only one day. I received my serial number and re-installed and
I still get a windows error saying the application has stopped working. Lightroom begins by trying to open a Catalog with a .JPG.lrcat extention. I don't have that file and not sure why it continues to try to open that file when I uninstalled Adobe Lightroom and removed it's file directory. I also cleaned out my recycle bin recommended by the readme file.
I have an old computer running LR 3.6. I have downloaded, installed and entered my serial number for LR 4.4 on my new computer. Can I simply copy my 3.6 catalog to the new computer and open it with LR 4.4?
I'm running LR2 (I know, first step, UPGRADE!), but in the meantime, I had to move my catalog because my drive got full. Under the Backup dialog box I chose the new location. But when I just click on the LR icon to open the program it opens with the default C: drive catalog location that it first installed with. Then I open the specific catalog from in the program and relaunch it. I have LR set to bring the dialog box everytime I start LR since I don't use it everyday. So I back it up when the dialog comes up and when it's done it goes right back to the default catalog with none of my library in there. Why do I have to keep opening the catalog manually?
I cannot open LR4. I get an, "Unexpected error opening catalog. The catalog could not be opened due to an unexpected error." This occurred after a WIN7 update failed. It restored the system to an earlier version. In doing so, it also reverted LR4.2 to LR4.1. I have seen other threads to open a different catalog and/or create a new. The problem is that once I go to "Choose a different catalog", I get the Windows screen where I can select my backup. I select the backup catalog and click "Open". The window goes away, but the underlying LR "Select a Catalog" window still only shows 1 catalog to open.....my original catalog. The backup doesn't show up in the list. (The backup is not a network drive and it is not read-protected.)
I then try the "Create a new catalog", get the Windows screen, enter a new name and click "Save". The same thing happens. The Windows screen goes away and the LR "Select a Catalog" window still shows the orignal catalog in the list. Thus, I cannot create nor choose a different catalog.
We are attempting to run Lightroom in our photo journalism classes and we are unable to setup the application because it will not create the Catalog file.
All of the users in Open Directory have their OSX 10.8 home folder stored on our Apple Server. This enabled them to log into any of the computers in the lab and have access to their data/documents.
Lightroom refuses to create the Catalog file because it treats the home folder as a network folder.
My predecessor found some way around this in the past but he didn't document it and I can't find any evidence of it either.
Surely there are other people out there trying to use Adobe Products who also utilize Apple's "Open Directory" (its like apple's version of Active Directory).
Windows Explorer set to open image files with PSE11, but when I double click on image in WE it launches PSE11, but I then need to click on Open tab in PSE11 to get it into work window. PSE10 did not have this problem
I recently bought a new computer and with I ordered photoshop cs2. This would be an upgrade from elements for me. My question is can you move the catalog from elements with all the tags etc. and put it into photoshop cs2 with adobe bridge. I need to know because I plan to reformat my old computer before photoshop arrives and if I should back it up.
