Photoshop Elements :: Upgrade Catalog Directly To Version 12.0 Without Loss Of Data
Jan 4, 2014
Can I upgrade my PSE 5.0 Catalog directly to version 12.0 without loss of data (i.e. using backup-move-restore method)? the transition to 6.0 and also to 9.0 resulted in a different data format in the catalog file.
I know there is a recommended way to use PSE catalog backup to transfer a catalog to a new pc [URL] This is fine for when I have planned to move to a new pc.
But what about if the move to the new pc is unexpected (such as after a loss of the pc or the pc stops working)? In this case, I would have an up-to-date backup of the old pc (because this is done automatically on a schedule), but would not have an up-to-date backup of the built in PSE catalog backup (because it is not automated).
How do I use my regular drive backup to restore the PSE catalog to the new PC, whilst preserving my albums?
I have upgraded from Win XP to 8.1 by buying a new machine. I have a valid copy of elements 11 on DVD. This was upgraded from elements 8 which was downloaded and those files have been lost. Windows 8.1 will not read the DVD.
I have trial versions of both Photoshop Elements 12 and Lightroom 5.2 (trial licenses are both still active (i.e. not expired)). I'm looking to import my PSE12 catalog into Lightroom before I plunk down the money to buy it.
I cannot, however, locate the "File->Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog" option in LR5.
I may have originally installed LR 5 before installing PSE 12. So I uninstalled LR5 and reinstalled it. Still no luck - the option isn't there. Any other ways to force LR5 to look for the PSE 12 catalog? Will LR5 even recognize a PSE12 catalog?
I had a problem with some folders in my original catalog in PSE 11 so I created a new catalog that seems to be fine. However, I have quite a few edited raw files that I had saved in the version set with the original raw file using the old catalog. In the new catalog, the edited jpgs are not in with the original raw version. Is there something I could do to fix this? Also, I have not deleted the original catalog that I used.
Just installed version 11 of PhotoShop Elements. In trying to convert the Version 10 Catalog to Version 11, the conversion fails. I have repaired and optimized the Catalog with Version 10, but still no luck with the conversion. A
I am attempting to convert an Elements Organizer version 11 catalog to version 12 running on OS-X Lion. It has been running for two days stuck at 37% and appears to be cycling through files with the name breeze-xxx.XML files in the BreezeData folder. It appears to be running since the breeze file names change about every 30-60 seconds. Is this normal or should I cancel and try a different approach? I checked the BreezeData folder and there are approximately 57K breeze-xxx.XML files and my catalog has approximately 56K images.
I am upgrading to PSE 12 from V9. Version 12 does not locate/recognize my catalog from version 9. In version 9, it states that it is using catalog 3 (current). How to I get V12 to locate and import my version 9 catalog.
I have a problem to restore a catalog from a previous version of photoshop. But I have a catalog only under a .buc extension instead of a .tly extension I should have.
i have lightroom 4 and would like to upgrade to lightroom five. will i loss any of my files when i upgrade or will the be loaded in automaticly after the upgrade.
I downloaded and paid for the upgrade version of CorelDraw X6 because I have X3,X4 and X5. I have installed it already but I went to reinstall on my desktop PC as I wiped my hard drive back to factory state, CorelDRAW no longer gives the upgrade option.
On start up it gives the following message ( see below ) as a 30 day trial.
I purchased a new computer today and also purchased PSE 12 (I had PSE 10 running on a different machine/laptop). On the laptop/PSE 10, I had about 20,000 digital on an external drive (all were tagged according to color, theme, etc via the PSE organizer). All of the elements were stored on the external drive under a folder called "digital kits". I used the PSE 10 backup utility to backup my catalog to ease the move to my new machine. After I performed the backup, I renamed the "digital kits" folder to "digital kits-glw" because I intended to just move the external hard drive to the new computer and restore the catalog to the same path, “E:digital kits”, as I have other software that is dependent upon that path.
The restore went pretty quickly, and I can see the correct folder structure within PSE 12 Organizer, but all I have is a bunch of blank thumbnails. Upon closer inspection, the restore did NOT recreate the E:digital kits folder on the hard drive as I expected. Worse, the E:digital kits-glw folder is virtually empty (just a handful of thumb.db files). So, it appears the backup process deleted/hijacked all of my files. (Note: I did NOT verify the contents of the digital kits folder before I renamed it.) Tech support is closed until Monday, and I’m just sick over the possibility of losing all that data, so I’m turning to you all.(I have a backup of the data, but without the catalog piece I would have to re-catalog all 20,000 elements!)
I have experienced that when restoring a catalogbackup, all data connected to each picture is gone, and i have to use many hours to organize once more.
Wondering if there is a loss of original full RGB information if changing color mode from RGB to CMYK and back to RGB. I understand that RGB has a wider color gamut and that if changing to CMYK that I will have a narrower color gamut. BUT, I want to know how if Adobe retains full RGB data after changing color mode to CMYK?
In other words, If I change from RGB to CMYK and back to RGB will I have all the original color data that I did with the original image? Does Photoshop "throw out" the full gamut information for RGB when switching to CYMK, so that when I do convert back to RGB, it is jsut looking for the comparable RGB color within the CMYK gamut now?
OR
Does Photoshop "know" the full color information regardless of in RGB or CMYK, but only changes that color information to fit within the CYMK color gamut while "remembering" what it's full color gamut WAS outside of CMYK?
If I do lose full RGB info, what's the best workflow option when using for print in indesign? Keep two seperate Photoshop files, one original RGB and one CMYK? OR just place into InDesign as RGB and change to CMYK when exporting as PDF?
Trying to apply the oil paint filter to a 45" x 30", 300dpi, 16-bit image I an error dialog that says: "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."
The menus all become gray and the software freezes so I can't quit, but Force Quit does not show "not responding".
I've taken a color picture and made it black and white by doing the following: Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Hue/Saturation. I brought the saturation down to -100. The pencil is selected and my foreground color is black.
When I try to select the flowers in my picture to bring out their color (within the black and white image), I get a circle with a black line thru it and the error message "could not rasterize because the pixel data for this layer is not directly editable". The steps I followed are working for most of my team but some of us are getting this error message.
I just got a shrinkwrap version of PS CS3 upgrade. I have a full version of PS 7 installed on my machine. Can I upgrade to this version. Adobe supports upgrades from 3 versions back, but I read somewhere that after Oct 2008, I won't be able to upgrade to CS3 - It doesn't make sense.
I received files from a freelance designer in Illustrator CS5 format, but my company only has CS4. Although she saved the files for CS4, I still have problems with data loss, for example all the text is broken up into separate text blocks, the layers are lost, the items are all in a clipping masks, objects are randomly grouped together, etc. is there any way to convert the file without data loss?
In the last three days, I lost hundreds of treatments. The photos from my folder disappeared with no reason.I have to import them again (they are on the hard drive) and work again on treatments.
I am using LR for years and it is the first time that it happens.
Installed all recent updates . . Files from cloud version from client . . .
Opened in CS6 with the Error Message "The file "------" was generated by a newer version of Ilustrator. Would you like to import this file? Some data loss may occur"
SOME DATA LOSS DID OCCUR!
Rebuilt all pertinent files connected to the program, cleaned out Mac running OS X 10.7.5 Baselined everything . . . still file opens with data missing (colored box defining white type in two areas on product)
I use Xara for design work and am also a professional SW developer who has been developing in WPF for 5 years. It would be so good if Xara could export data directly to XAML, rather than having to go via an intermediate format. Searching in the forum reveals that this has come up several times and there have been a few hints that it might be about to be supported, but then nothing.
I have another problem now, I have purchased from Adobe the upgrade for CS6 but when I try to download it says I do not have the correct version of Internet Explorer and yet IE is telling me I have version 10 - I also have windows 8 and since Adobe doesnt like IE I have downloaded Mozilla but I am still unable to download.
When installing an upgraded version of Designer or Web Designer, Xara never overwrites or uninstalls the old program like many software companies do. Is there any problems encountered with data files or anything else if you just uninstall the old program through the Control Panel (Windows)?
Since upgrading to LR4, I've not figured how to upgrade my catalog to LR4 also - currently it's labelled as 'Lightroom 2 catalog-2.lrcat". I'm slowly working through updating changes to 'render to LR4' but I'm uncertain if this will then automatically turn the catalog to LR4, or if I need to do this separately - and when?
