I installed CS5 and it will not allow me to click or adjust any layers on the canvas with my mouse. For example, I can open an image or project file, drag and drop something into the window to add the image as a new layer floating over the main layer. I can click and drag all I want nothing happens. Right click on the image....nothing happens. If I hit the arrows keys on the kb...the image starts to move around. If I select the selection tool nothing will happen when I click and drag around.
Adobe is completely inoperable on this system forcing me to have to use a friends PC to do anything with.
I have tried resetting the preferences on launch of the application...no change. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling....no change. I tried uninstalling CS4, then re-installing CS5....no change.just re-install CS4 and stick with it until CS6 comes out (assuming I will be able to budget the expense).
If I have 2 layers at 50% opacity and a white layer underneath, those combined layers should equal 100% opacity and so I should not be able to see anything below the lower layer. Instead what I find is that you have to stack over 15 layers at 50% before they even start to appear opaque (and at 15 they still aren't).
What's the math going on behind here? I would have assumed that, with an 8-bit image, you have 256 levels of transparency so at 50% you've got both layers at 128; 128-128 = 0 or no transparency so why does photoshop still allow something to be visible underneath that? While we're at it, why does 100% look fully opaque but 99% looks dramatically different without a layer underneath? Maybe the math is adding up but 50% opacity is actually more like 5% opaque?
Is there a blending mode I can use that will similate the build up of opacity more accurately? I'm really annoyed with the fact I can't really predict how layers are going to interact based on their opacity; I wish I at least understood the science behind it so I could alter my process to produce the results I want.
I want to drag multiple adjustment layers, typically four with default masks but no masking has been applied, from one document to another. I have read several articles about this, but no method works reliably for me. I running CS6.
In CS4 when I had multiple files open and wanted to copy a layer to another file I would display the files on the desktop as tiled. That enabled me to drag and drop layers to other files, new files, whatever. How do I do this in CS6?
I loved an ability in Photoshop 5 to just drug and drop layer onto different doc tab to paste it. But seems like i cant do this anymore in Photoshop 6. Are the copy/paste and arrange docs the only ways to move layers in to a new location in cs6?
When I drag and drop psd file from Bridge on open document it ends up in the document as smart object. When I drag and drop psd file from Bridge on the toolbar it opens the file with all the layers.
I know that I can access the layer by double-clicking on smart object. I know that I can drag and drop multiple layers from one file into another. But I have limited use of any of the above functionality (except as intermediate step) - what I need is to drag and drop all the layers from one psd file into another right from Bridge, without opening the file first, is there a way to do it?
In previous versions of PS you used to be able to press CMD (i'm mac based) and drag the mouse to select all the layers that are within the area you drag to.
This is great for sorting out files, grouping layers etc as you can lock/hide layers as you go. Problem now is that in Photoshop CC it also selects locked and invisible layers - which didn't use to happen so actually its completely ruined this method.
Can I make layers default to the top when I drag and drop into a new layer folder instead of the bottom? It annoys me that they always go to the bottom and I inevitably always need them at the top.
Every once in a while I print that has two side-by-side images on one piece of paper. My usual routine is to create a new document that is larger than the two images--say, 10x8 (horizontal) with a transparent background and the same resolution as the two images that I'll be placing on the canvas (say, two 4x3's). Then I simply click on the image I want to move and drag it from its layers palette onto the blank background canvas, and move/edit/size as needed.
when I drag an image over to the blank canvas, it assumes the size of the entire canvas. so I just have the image... enlarged. With no background canvas. when I click on the new image (the one dragged to the canvas), all of the editing commands are grayed out. So I cannot resize or move it.I'm on CS5 (mac)
In my previous version of Elements, I was able to duplicate a layer (which was a picture) and then drag and drop a new picture into that layer. How can I do this with Elements 12, since the drag and drop option doesn't work?
I am using this for a "scrapbook" photo page, where there are multiple photos and text on the page.
I'm using Gimp 2.8.2 on Linux. I've configured the UI to single-windowmode and have opened multiple images, each with a tabbed display.
It is my understanding that I should be able to grab a layer from oneimage and drag-and-drop it onto the tab of another image in order toappend a copy of that layer in the new image. I have not been able to dothis. I'm grabbing a layer from the layers dialog and dragging it to the tab-thumbnail, but the layer is not copied to the new image.
A couple of comments for the UI designers:
* I find the [X] icons on the image tabs to be a real problem getting accidentally selected and dismissing the image when attempting to quickly select another tab. I would prefer another tab dismissal method such as right-click-menu close.
* Some user control over the tabs would be good. For example, I would like to see the the vertical height of of the tabs be smaller and have the option of displaying file names and/or icons.
Working with layers in Paintshop Pro X6 instruction # eight says: To resize (the layer that I just placed on my background image) click on one of the corner nodes and drag outward. But no corners or nodes are showing for me to drag the layer to where I want to position it. It seems like a step is missing from the instructions.
So as it stands, I can get my layer onto the background image but I can't resize or reposition it at all.
I am working on a sign which needs to be backlit. I cant seem to get the light to interact with the shape in front. I need the light to spread across the shape, basically between the wall and the oval shape.
I'm trying to create a surface under my 'existing ground' surface. There is shallow rock where one of our projects is located and using geotechnical data I want to create a 'rock surface' at the known rock elevations. I just want this surface for visual reasons and do not want it to interact with the existing ground or pipe network.
I have 4 places along the roadway where I know the rock elevations. I created new points around each known point with the same elevation so there would be more than just four points on the surface and so I could make it the width of the road allowance. But when I look back to my profile of the road, it shows the existing profile drop to the rock surface at each place that I created points for the rock elevation. Not sure how to make it so the existing ground surface doesn't pick up the new points I added for the rock elevations.
If you have two balloons falling down on each other, can mCloth interact with the balloons or can the balloons only react to a item like a rigid block?
Is there some sort of restriction in Paint.NET that restricts the folks creating plugins from permitting the plugins to interact or function directly on the canvas/layer?
For instance the smudge and liquify (and others) open another window where you make your adjustments. The reason why I ask is this results in doing some things blindly because you can't see the rest of the canvas. I think some of these plugins will be so much more effective (especially with the recent addition of grid warping) if you can do some of these things on the canvas so you can shape images/textures to follow contours, but this is nearly impossible without doing so with several blind attempts.
How can i interact with the source code of LOFT command.Especially, I'd like to inform me, about the method that Loft commad uses in order to draw a solid. I suppose that the two sketches I want to intersect, are close enough, thus the programm, can't generate the geometry...
In my Adobe Premire Pro CS6 project, When I select a clip that I want to drag down into the editing section it only allows me to drag the video and NOT the audio. I need both video and audio and it wont let me, I don't think I clicked anything wrong but
I'm using CS6 and noticed that whenever I delete a layer that was a dupe of another layer with links (although not linked specifically to the deleted layer), the undeleted original layers become invisible on the canvas even though they are still visible in the layers pallette. I've been able to recreate this several times. Nothing I do will make the layers visible -I've tried moving them all to the top of the layers palette, making sure their opacity is 100%, making sure there are no layer effects, etc.
I often will copy a layer in the layers palette via option drag. If the original layer is linked to another, the new layer is also linked to the orginal layer I copied as well as any other layers that original was linked to.
Is there anyway to option drag to copy a layer in the layers palette without the new layer being linked?
All of my image layers have randomly converted to smart object layers and I can no longer resize them in the ps document. Why would it do this and how can I undo it?
I needed to have a 7-foot retractable banner printed and discovered my San Diego print vendor had dragged my InDesign .pdf into Photoshop and rastered my vector text and vector logos at 125 ppi and was going to print out of Photoshop.
I talked with their sales and graphics people for two days and specifically asked them in five different ways if they printed through a RIP (yes), and if I would get vector sharpness on my printed text and logos (yes). And I specifically requested they print directly from my .pdf and that they not alter my file in any way.
the person printing my job and she told me she had dragged my .pdf into Photoshop and would be printing out of Photoshop. She connected me with her graphics supervisor and I am not sure he even understood the difference between vector and raster, or my point about vector sharpness on the print.
I had asked their graphics person what profile to use -- she said CMYK and she didn't know what a profile was -- I dodged that question by having her open her Photoshop Color Settings and reading her working CMYK profile.
I called two other San Diego banner printing shops after that and the conversations were about the same.
In Photoshop CS4, when you drag an image to open it, the program opened in a new tab automatically. Since version CS5, in doing so, the software simply inserts the image on the tab that is already open. There configuring Photoshop CS6 equal to CS4 (when dragging an image, open it in a new tab)?
I am running Windows XP/Photoshop CS3 and for some reason I can not drag photos around on the screen. This is random as sometimes it works. I have tried everything except reinstalling the software. Which I would rather not do since I have a lot of add-on and plug-in's.
Here's what I have tried:
1. Reset PS preferences on the startup
2. I have used all the various Windows Screen modes using Shift-F.
I have updated to 10.3.3, after updating I can no longer drag a file onto the dock icon to open it, any suggestions, is it a 10.3.3 problem or did I turn something off that I am unaware of. It will launch the program if it is not open but it will not actually open the file.
Is there anyway to setup photoshop CS3 so that you can drag documents around by selecting the top of the window, like you can in every other windows compatible application? You know like you could in every single other version of Photoshop?
I work on multiple documents at once and need to drag them around, CS3 does not allow you to do this. Being aloud to drag a window is no longer automatic. It requires way to much work I have to move the mouse over the leftmost small icon of the top of a window (which is usually obscured by the tool palette so I have to minimize that as well),
then I have click on the little icon, then scroll down to the move choice, now the window is able to be dragged - All these steps are talking way to long for working on multiple documents. Does anyone know of a way to just automatically allow a document to be dragged around in photoshop? The way it used to work in every other version up until CS3?
When I open a file, it will also normally appear as layer in layer-palette. When I open a second file next to the 1st and try to move item from that file to 1st file, it can not be done.
I can move the item in it´s own file but I can´t drag it to another file. Layers do not merge under one window but stay in their separate windows.
