Photoshop :: How To Drag And Drop Layers To Other Files In CS6
Jan 23, 2013
In CS4 when I had multiple files open and wanted to copy a layer to another file I would display the files on the desktop as tiled. That enabled me to drag and drop layers to other files, new files, whatever. How do I do this in CS6?
I loved an ability in Photoshop 5 to just drug and drop layer onto different doc tab to paste it. But seems like i cant do this anymore in Photoshop 6. Are the copy/paste and arrange docs the only ways to move layers in to a new location in cs6?
When I drag and drop psd file from Bridge on open document it ends up in the document as smart object. When I drag and drop psd file from Bridge on the toolbar it opens the file with all the layers.
I know that I can access the layer by double-clicking on smart object. I know that I can drag and drop multiple layers from one file into another. But I have limited use of any of the above functionality (except as intermediate step) - what I need is to drag and drop all the layers from one psd file into another right from Bridge, without opening the file first, is there a way to do it?
Can I make layers default to the top when I drag and drop into a new layer folder instead of the bottom? It annoys me that they always go to the bottom and I inevitably always need them at the top.
In my previous version of Elements, I was able to duplicate a layer (which was a picture) and then drag and drop a new picture into that layer. How can I do this with Elements 12, since the drag and drop option doesn't work? Â I am using this for a "scrapbook" photo page, where there are multiple photos and text on the page.
I use to be able to easily drag and drop files from the internet into photoshop. now i have to copy the image to my clipboard, and then do new image, paste it in.
I'm running Photoshop CC 64 on a Windows 7 64 machine and am only able to open files in Photoshop by going to File->Open. Double-clicking from Explorer doesn't work and i can not drag/drop files into the open application window or taskbar icon. Right clicking on files and selecting "Open with" also doesn't work. Â I checked file associations and made sure to choose CC 64. If I right click on the shortcut and choose "Run As Administrator" which I have to do in order to get files to open between Lightroom and Photoshop (both need to be Run As Administrator), I'm still unable to open from Windows Explorer. However, if I check the box to "Run this program as administrator" in the shortcut's Compatibility tab, I can double-click to open from Explorer but am prompted with a UAC warning every time. Dragging/dropping into the open app still doesn't work. Â Opening between Bridge and PS works as expected so long as both programs are "Run As Administrator"
You can drag and drop photos directly from LR to InDesign.  I have LR 4 and InDesign CS6. No matter what I try, I can't figure out how to drag and drop files from LR4 to InDesignCS6. I always get a "cannot" icon appear in LR.  I try to drag-n-drop PSD and JPG files from LR to inDesign.Â
I have just bought Elements 12. Great programme. I used to use Picasa 3, a good free programme. In Picasa it is easy to move images around in their folders by simply click, drag and drop. This does not work in elements. Is it possible to achieve this somehow?
I'm having this problem since the last time I formatted my computer. Basically, when I try to drag an image into photoshop, the cursors changes into a circle with a slash in it (unavailable).
I can open files by right clicking and choosing "Open with -> Adobe Photoshop CS6", and I can also open with "File > Open..." (ctrl+O)
I've searched for a soltion for this and nothing worked. This is what I've tried doing so far:
- Resetting the preferences (ctrl+alt+shift) - Running with administative rights - Running without administrative rights - Making sure I have premissions for the files - Making sure the files are not set as read-only - Changing the scratch disk option (Preference -> Performance) Â None of these worked. Â Here are my PC specs: OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1 CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.50GHz RAM: 4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 400MHz Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. G31M-ES2L Graphic Card: 1024MB GeForce GT 240 (nVidia)
My Adobe PhotoDeLuxe was unfortunately deleted and I had to buy Photoshop, which is far less convenient for my needs. How can I drag and drop, or copy and paste, an image I have modified in Photoshop directly into another programme, in my case usually MS Publisher ? Â Is there a way that, when I double click an image in My Pictures, I do not have to watch a long list of the people who designed Photoshop before I can actually use it?
I've been using photoshop cs6 Extended for almost a year now and never have had any problems with it. Recently however, I purchased a desktop with Windows 8, and when I reinstalled Photoshop on that, I have had problems since. When I move to drag something onto photoshop (Whenetheir it's from the internet or a folder on my Computer), A black Stop icon that represents my mouse refuses to let me. I can still open files normally with the "Open" tab in Photoshop I've already tried the following:
Running as both adminstrator and non-adminstartor Made sure "Clip thumbnails to document bounds" is checked" Resetting Photoshop Preferences Made sure none of files I wanted to drap and drop were "Read only" In addition, When I'm moving files, the background for some reasons flickers My OS is Windows 8 and my Version of photoshop is cs6 extended.  Â
I'm using CS4 and haven't had this problem before. After loading various actions, I am unable to drag and drop them into one of my sets. The actions either drop above or below the set. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
I could always drag an image from a browser window onto photoshop and work further with it. But now this trick doesn't work anymore. When I drag now onto PS, PS show a dialog box with sizes and stuff and when I click 'ok', I only get a white canvas with the wrong sizes and when I paste (maybe the image 'hangs' in the clipboard) it pastes nothing..
when you drag and drop from firefox into photoshop, more than half the time you get an error message.
firefox 3.0 is coming out (beta was released), and Firefox DISABLED draging an image into photoshop as a NEW image, you can only drag images into other already open images
we NEED the ability to drag in images as new photos,
when you drag and drop from firefox into photoshop, more than half the time you get an error message.
Well firefox 3.0 is coming out (beta was released), and Firefox DISABLED draging an image into photoshop as a NEW image, you can only drag images into other already open images.
I don't know what made it stop but at this point it's beginning to bug me to no end. I can no longer simply drag a file into Photoshop. I now have to go to "file --> open" in order to get anything into. Is there anything I can do to restore the ability to drag and drop? Just to let you know I reset the preferences already and that did nothing. The other thing is I'm running Windows 7, however I've never had an issue with PS on it. I'm using CS4.
I'm using Photoshop CS6 and when I drag and drop a color image from one screen to another, all the color disappears and the color image becomes B&W. Additionally, when I tried to use my brush tool to color the B&W image, the only color that works is gray - even though I used the color picker to select an exact match brush color.
I'm using Photoshop CS3 and when I'm trying to drag and drop an smart filter to arrange it inside a set of smart filters apply to the same smart object, I find a bug with a warning message that says "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
an error received when attempting to drag a photo from the internet into CS3? Only happens when dragging from Firefox (havent tried explorer) into CS3. Can drag photos from photo manager into CS#....
"Drag and Drop operation could not be completed because file c/documents and settings/XXXX/local settings/temp/4709916056bd.jpg is not ready"
I've had this problem for some time. I'm on Vista-64-SP2 running Photoshop-CS2 When first installed PS-CS2 worked fine. I got no errors when starting the program and I could drag & drop icons from the desktop or windows onto the Adobe taskbar icon and the photo would load normally. Then I let Adobe automatically upgrade my CS2 and other Adobe products (Dreamweaver CS4, Illustrator CS2, GoLive6, Reader, Flash browser plug-in, etc.) and then I started getting a windows error message R6034 saying that "An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly." Microsoft says the fix is to recompile the application. Yeah right! OK, so I delete Photoshop and other applications and reinstall them all and the problem goes away ... until I let Adobe automatically update the products and the problem comes back. Yes, I can probably live with an unupdated virgin version of Photoshop CS2 but there should be an answer from Adobe or at least someone else to validate that my complaint is not unique. Another problem that may be related is that I've seemed to have lost the ability for Adobe GoLive6 to open Photoshop images for editing Also I've lost the ability to drag & drop from the desktop or a window onto an open Photoshop application or onto its icon on the taskbar. I've searched the web and find nothing similar. The solutions I have found were unrelated to my situation or were for a Macintosh. I've searched the forums here and find nothing that gives an answer. I know pretty much what I'm doing around computers and I keep a clean system.Â
I had to do a clean install (Archive and Install) recently on my Macintosh (450 MHz PowerPC G4, 1.25 GB SDRAM, OSX 10.4.11) and found afterwards that the drag-and-drop capabilities of Photoshop (CS2, version 9.0.2) were no longer available. In addition to this,
I'm now not able to edit original graphics in Photoshop through the links palette in InDesign (CS2, version 4.0.5). I've searched through the Previous System folder that Archive and Install left, but don't know enough to recognize the software component(s) necessary to solve this problem.
I am running elements 10 on I-Mac with montain lion With a new blank page when I drag and drop from the Project Binto Panel bin the pic is black & white why
PS Elements 10, v.10.0 (20110831.m.17215)  27" Mid-2011 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 12 GB RAM, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4  I have a very simple question, for which I can find NO answer: since I upgraded my Mac OS to Lion, I can no longer grab an image -- or, most importantly, several images from several locations on my several drives -- then drag and drop them on the PS Elements 10 icon in my Dock, or on the PS Elements 10 icon in my Applications folder, and have PS Elements 10 automatically boot open, and load these images into the Editor workspace. I try it, and PS Elements 10 just sits there and refuses to open. I could do this in Snow Leopard, and I can do this in Lion with EVERY other app I have (providing I'm dragging and dropping files that the apps recognize). As I have many images in many files, this is, obvious
I am running elemens 11 on windows 8 with a touch screen conputer. when I try to use the Move tool, I get the boxes around the image but I can't get it to drag and drop. What can I do?
Trying to drag an edited picture from photobin in Elements 12 onto a blank documents. Elements is resizing my photo to fit the blank document. I don't want it to resize. I want to drag and drop multiple photos onto a new blank doument as I have in other versions.
