Aug 9, 2013I am not entirely sure why but all of a sudden my abienlity to drag anything with my mouse has been disabbled. When I try, it makes the ding noise that goes with being unable. Jun 2, 2012Yes, I have CS2 for Illustrator, I got it through college.Anyways, I was working on vectors and was drawing strokes and being able to see the guide line (I suppose that's what you call it) in the middle of the stroke path.BUT, I must've selected something wrong, because I can't see the line.I restarted PC even, rebooted AI, and still can't see it.I used the Pen to draw some lines, but I don't see the blue line that is shown when you drag and change the curve of the path.I opened up a new window/file and when I drew the path of the Pen tool, I was able to see it again? Was it just a problem w/the file itself?

Drag proportionally (by holding down SHIFT) the size of the box... and it won't snap to the Guides.
How can proportional scaling be down by dragging, and have Guides and other nodes, vertices, anchors, "smart Guides" etc actually functional as Snap positions?
Or Adobe figure there's no need for accuracy when proportionaly scaling?

Nov 1, 2012I just upgrade to Windows8 x64 and I'm using Illustrator 64 CS6. I am trying to drag and drop a TIF file off my desktop in to a document like I have so many times before in Illustrator but my cursor is showing the 'No' symbol (circle with line thru it).
It is working in Photoshop tho.

Mar 28, 2010I'm wondering how it's possible to drag only one handle out of an anchor point. Sometimes I have a path and some anchor points have only one handle dragged out. Now I want to adjust the other handle _without_ changing the already positioned handle. Is this even possible?
The "convert anchor point tool" does allow me to drag out handles, but only both at a time. This always results in changing the already positioned handle's position.

Aug 27, 2013I'm working on a memory experiment and I want to create a file with a drag and drop feature. I set an image as layer 1, and several images as layer 2. I would like to create a file where people can drag and drop on of the images from layer two onto a slot in layer one. Ideally I would like it to remain stable if the place an image in the slot (meaning if they try to place one of the images from layer 2 into layer 1, I want it to align perfectly).

Jul 12, 2013In CS5, I was fairly easily able to do this by dragging a vector directly from illustrator to fireworks, but vectors drug back to illustrator would be rasterized. I recall photoshop did some of this stuff, but I don't remember so much as this use case is rarely necessary for photoshop for me. Nonetheless, Illustrator CC and Fireworks CS6 don't seem to support this feature at all.
I've always dreamt that adobe bridge would have this sort of functionality (since it's the only useful feature I could picture bridge having), but I haven't seen any evidence to support this wish.
Is there a good way to drag & drop or copy & paste vectors between the new versions of illustrator, fireworks, and photoshop? Maybe there are clipboard settings that allow this to happen or a program that accepts clipboard vectors, quickly converts them to something common like svg, then allows you to drag a temp .svg file into another program?
[by the way, I know I could just export .svg files from illustrator, then place them into a fireworks file, but this feels like an unnecessarily clunky workflow]
Illustrator :: Paths Keep Breaking When Drag Tool With The Mouse?
Sep 12, 2013I try to drag something - either a whole shape, a point or when I'm using a tool like the pencil or the knife and need to have a continuous path, Illustrator is glitching on me. It keep breaking my path and jumping a little even though I never let go of the mouse. Or when I'm trying to copy and paste something by dragging, it will suddenly unselect it, paste it where it was and then copy another shape. Crazy thing is, my mouse works fine on everything else non-Illustrator. It's happening in two different versions on two different computers, one of which has CS6 and is a brand new iMac.
I'm using the following:
5 year old iMac running OS X
Illustrator CS 3
The other computer is at work:
brand new iMac, can't remember the OS
Illustrator CS 6

Oct 20, 2012Thought I'd force myself to use CS6 on a new project. I want to select multiple objects using "Option-drag", in the Layer Panel, but it doesn't work as it does in CS5.
Is there a different shortcut for selecting multiple contiguous objects using the Layer Panel, in CS6? Of course, I mean "Select" not "highlight".

May 24, 2013When dragging and dropping an image from FF 20/21 into AI CS6, it forces elements on the art board to be displaced.The image dragged into the app will plop into the middle of the art board, and anything in the file just gets moved.
Where it gets moved to is inconsistent- but it appears to always move on a diagonal.

Jan 23, 2013I routinely add paths to existing Live Paint Groups, by dragging a path that is outside the group, into the LP group. But AI won't let me drag the "selection icon" from a nested layer, into an existing LP Group. Why?
It seems I'm requesting the same action, but AI won't allow the icon to be dragged into the group. I have to either open the layer and drag the objects directly, or drag the objects into the main layer, then into the Live Paint Group. I think this is an interface flaw.
FYI… I realize I could jump into the Live Paint Group using Isolation mode, but that takes extra steps and makes the template less useful.

Mar 18, 2013My Type Tool does not select type by double clicking or click and drag. (Windows CS 5 V15.1). This is what I have tried so far and the problem still exists.
Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.

I checked the box for pixel grid alignement when I created the documentthe symbol option is set for align to pixel gridthe original shape in the symbol is aligned to pixel grindthe original shape has the align to pixel grid check box in the transform panel checked
So why when I resize the symbol instance does it break the pixel grid alignmnet and result in a blurred 1px stroke?

Aug 22, 2012This morning, my Selection Tool (the filled-in arrow) is acting like a Direct Selection Tool (the hollow arrow), but only when I click and drag on a group. It ends up select the anchors within the group rather than the whole group itself.
I've checked my preferences, quit and relaunched Illustrator a few times, and nothing seems to fix it. The problem briefly went away a few minutes ago, but came back when I quit and relaunched for good measure.
It's happening in Illustrator CS 5.1. I have CS6, and that version works fine, but I'm waiting on some plugins to be updated for it, so I'd like to use CS 5.1. I'm also running the latest Suitcase Fusion 4.

Jan 15, 2013I needed to have a 7-foot retractable banner printed and discovered my San Diego print vendor had dragged my InDesign .pdf into Photoshop and rastered my vector text and vector logos at 125 ppi and was going to print out of Photoshop.
I talked with their sales and graphics people for two days and specifically asked them in five different ways if they printed through a RIP (yes), and if I would get vector sharpness on my printed text and logos (yes). And I specifically requested they print directly from my .pdf and that they not alter my file in any way.
the person printing my job and she told me she had dragged my .pdf into Photoshop and would be printing out of Photoshop. She connected me with her graphics supervisor and I am not sure he even understood the difference between vector and raster, or my point about vector sharpness on the print.
I had asked their graphics person what profile to use -- she said CMYK and she didn't know what a profile was -- I dodged that question by having her open her Photoshop Color Settings and reading her working CMYK profile.
I called two other San Diego banner printing shops after that and the conversations were about the same.

May 15, 2008I am running Windows XP/Photoshop CS3 and for some reason I can not drag photos around on the screen. This is random as sometimes it works. I have tried everything except reinstalling the software. Which I would rather not do since I have a lot of add-on and plug-in's.

1. Reset PS preferences on the startup
2. I have used all the various Windows Screen modes using Shift-F.
3. Check for updates online.
