I have just signed up to Adobe CC and got a lot to learn. Using Illustrator, when I drag a custom shape across an art board, I would like to see dimensions as I draw. Can I set a preference for thisand where do I find it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to save a custom artboard setup with a custom document profile in illustrator cs5? I do technical illustrations and our page size is odd (7.19 x 8.96. It the size that our Framemaker layout is set to.). I have a custom document profile that I use, but I use the grids all the time so that my callouts are spaced out evenly around the art. I would like to have a way to set the artboard up so that the grid will align to the center of the artboard everytime I turn them on. Right now they always start from the top left and when I center art in the center of the page, the grid spacing isn't the same on each side of the art. I just want to be able to open my document profile, turn on my grids, have them start from the center, and I can get down to business. As it is now I have to go into my artboard settings and manually adjust the grid to the center. Small annoyance, but it still annoys me. I have tried to save it a few different ways, but nothing has worked. Maybe there just isn't a way.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen dragging and dropping an image from FF 20/21 into AI CS6, it forces elements on the art board to be displaced.The image dragged into the app will plop into the middle of the art board, and anything in the file just gets moved.
Where it gets moved to is inconsistent- but it appears to always move on a diagonal.
is it possible to make a new document and instead of having it shaped like a rectangle/square, to have it shaped like a octagon? I'm making a square shaped business card, but I want the right side of the card to have a zig-zag pattern cut out on it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI could have sworn a while back that I had stumbled across an option within Illustrator (I'm currently using CC) to specify a certain amount of "padding" to leave around an object when cropping it. I can't recall if I saw this in the Artboard settings, in the Save For Web settings or somewhere else - if at all. Is this possible within Illustrator. In other words, if I draw a shape and want to crop the artboard to fit the dimensions of the shape, plus leave an extra 25px of padding around the shape.

Sometimes when I drag a new symbol instance to my artboard and resize it, the instance looses it alignement with the pixel grid.
This happens despite the fact that...
I checked the box for pixel grid alignement when I created the documentthe symbol option is set for align to pixel gridthe original shape in the symbol is aligned to pixel grindthe original shape has the align to pixel grid check box in the transform panel checked
So why when I resize the symbol instance does it break the pixel grid alignmnet and result in a blurred 1px stroke?
When I drag a previous custom command into an existing custom tool bar and edit the custom command (then rename the command in the Name and Command Name) it also changes the previous custom command that I originally drug into the toolbar. What am I doing wrong?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to map a custom symbol to a 3D object in Illustrator. I've created the symbol and added it to the symbol library. Pre-installed symbols are mapping just fine when I follow the proper procedure, but for some reason my custom symbol doesn't map. I've followed the exact same process that works for the pre-made symbols, but the custom symbol doesn't map regardless of the type of 3D effect I'm using (Bevel & Extrude, Rotate, or Revolve).
I'm running Illustrator CS5 on Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2
1.) I dragged out vertical and horizontal guides from the rulers and then created a new art board. The new art board now has the horizontal guides carried over from the first art board. How can I have separate guides on each of my art boards? I am using art board rulers.
2.) Is there a way to layout vertical and horizontal guides on an art board and copy them over to a new blank art board?
i have around 500 eps formats images with different artboard size.
i need to resize the artboard to A4 size and the images to be placed in the centre of the artboard.
I would like to create a trapezoid shape and be able to color it in, just like I'm able to do with the PathItems (e.g. rectangle, ellipse). I would like to be able to do this in Javascript.
I was thinking it might have to do with PathPoints, but Adobe's Scripting Reference Guide does not make it clear.
I want to make a vector shape from a path. Is there a way to bypass having to define a new custom shape? I just want to quickly add the vector shape to a new layer, but I don't need it defined as it'll just be used once.

The folder for Lightroom print templates is empty. Also, when trying to set up a custom layout, I cannot click-and-drag photos from the filmstrip to the layout. I have the think bubble custom shape on it's own layer, when I click on my photo layer the custom shape dissappears. How do I keep the custom shape on the photo layer. The custom shape layer, has a layer thumbnail and a vector mask thumbnail next to it. I am new to using layers please explain in baby steps.

I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.
If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.
It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.
I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
What does it mean when Illustrator v.15.1.0 ceases to contract a shape using offset paths and will only expand a shape? Seems like only yesterday I could render both ways. Wait a minute, it was only yesterday! Why would it suddenly stop funtioning?

It seems if I want to have maybe 20 paw prints on graphic they will all be facing the same way. Is there a way to move them individually so they don't look all the same? I hope that makes sense.

I have not ventured much into the pen tool and I am totally illiterate when it comes to this tool.
My question is about gradients and anti-aliasing. I'm using PS 7.0 and what I want to do is use the custom shape tool, and fill the shape with a gradient. Not difficult, but here's where I get caught. After the shape is filled, I'd like the edges to remain anti-aliased.
For example, if I use the custom shape tool to create a hand print with anti-aliased edges, then use the magic want to select it. Next I grab my fore and back colors, choose a linear gradient and drag it in the appropriate direction. The selected shape is filled the way I want, but when I deselect, the edges have become pixelated. Is there a way to avoid this and keep them smooth? I tried using the blur tool and blur filter, but they don't quite have the same look.
I was using the custom shape tool (say I want to make a star) and in my other version of PS (7), it would automatically create a new shape layer, linked where you could click and change the color, etc.
When I try it in CS2 it draws the shape on the background directly. Now I am able to create a new layer, draw the shape and then fill it with a color to get the same result - but it was much easier the other way. I'm assuming it's just a setting (much like the changed linked layers setting)
Is it possible in Revit to do custom shape graffiti? In shape of rhomb, for example.
