Illustrator :: Can't Get Custom Symbol To Map To 3D Shape

Nov 23, 2012

I'm trying to map a custom symbol to a 3D object in Illustrator. I've created the symbol and added it to the symbol library. Pre-installed symbols are mapping just fine when I follow the proper procedure, but for some reason my custom symbol doesn't map. I've followed the exact same process that works for the pre-made symbols, but the custom symbol doesn't map regardless of the type of 3D effect I'm using (Bevel & Extrude, Rotate, or Revolve).

I'm running Illustrator CS5 on Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Photoshop :: Import And Use Custom Illustrator Symbol Library

Sep 19, 2012

I would like to import and use my own (project-specific) Illustrator Symbol Libraries in Photoshop

Background info

- I create BIG amounts of assets (for UI design) in Adobe Illustrator which I save as Symbols.
- I store these symbols in a custom symbol library so I can re-use them in a different file
- Reason A: to be able to re-use these symbols within the Illustrator file to visualize different "interaction flows" to my clients
- Reason B: I use vector assets because they allow me to accommodate for different screen resolutions in the future

Wish
A:  I would like to be able to open the same symbol library I created in Illustrator in Photoshop and drag the symbols onto my Photoshop canvas.
B:  If I change a symbol in Illustrator it should be updated in my Photoshop file.

Illustrator Scripting :: How To Make Custom Shape Using JavaScript

I was thinking it might have to do with PathPoints, but Adobe's Scripting Reference Guide does not make it clear.

a really simplen example would be several instances of the same button graphic but with different labels.

I know these things are possible in Fireworks, but couldn't find a way to make it happen in Illustrator.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Using Blocks For Shape File Style / Symbol

Jan 11, 2012

GPS'd fire hydrant locations.  The GPS points were exported to shape files and using Data Connect, these points locate correctly in Map (using version 2009).  The points have default styling...color, shape...and I want to use a CAD block of a fire hydrant to symbolize the points instead of the default square.  Is this possible?

Clicking "Style" on the Display Manager to open the Style Point dialog box.

Next to the heading "Symbol:" clicking the ... button brings me to "Select a Symbol" pop up dialog box.

Next to the "Symbol Library:" drop down box, clicking the ... button brings me to the folder located at C://Program Files/AutoCAD Map 3D 2009/Sample/Symbols. There are 13 DWGs in this folder all called "Map - something.dwg" like "Map - electric.dwg" or "Map - water.dwg.

I can open any of these DWGs and they all provide multiple symbols to choose from in the "Select a Symbol" dialog box.  However, none of these DWGs contain a symbol for a fire hydrant.

What other folders can be navigated to, in order to find other blocks?  Can other CAD blocks be used as shape file symbolization or does the prefix "Map - xxx" in this folder mean that only these specific drawings will open for shape file symbolization?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Perpendicular Symbol And Align To New Shape

Nov 26, 2013

I just started using the Autocad 2014, and noticed that there are a lot of symbols appearing next to my lines to show that the lines are horizontal and also perpendicular. Is there a way to switch these off? I can cross it out in every corner, but would prefer if it didn't appear to start with.

The second problem I have is when I try to use the align command. The boxes don't align properly, and sometimes the shape is even distorted to a rectangle.

I have attached a couple of print screens to show what I mean. In the second image the boxes rotate rather than align to the new shape.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Model Parameter Text In Custom Symbol

Jun 27, 2012

Just installed 2013 Pro x64 and I'm doing a little testing. Using Tube and Pipe, I created a few mock pipe runs which are named according to a unique line number. When clicking on the Iproperties of any of these pipe runs, I can see that the value of model parameter "Part Number" now includes the name of the top level assembly and the line number, which is the name I assigned to the pipe run when I created it (see Fig 1 attached). Then in IDW I created a user defined symbol which contains text that I have directed to extract value of "part number" from the model properties, and fill in my symbol with that value (see Fig 2). The problem is, when I tag the pipe run with my custom symbol, the value in the symbol remains blank, instead of giving me the value of "part number".  WHAT am I missing??

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Custom Dialogue To Edit A Sketch Symbol Text?

Jul 18, 2013

What I would like to do is create a custom dialogue for each of 3 or 4 standard sketch symbols we use on a regular basis. I'd like to load 'suggsted' values out of an excel spreadsheet and allow the user to pick from them or enter in a custom text string if required.  The values would then become part of the sketch symbol.

I've spent some time looking into iLogic rules and I think I've determined that they're not flexible enough to do what I want.

If I'm correct, it is possible (or a good idea) to do this using a VBA macro? I'm a little hesitant to go down the full blown add-in route. While I'm pretty confident I could work it out.

Illustrator :: Front Shape Appears Thinner After Subtracting From Back Shape

Jan 13, 2014

I'm using CS3 on a Mac.

I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.

If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.

It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.

I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.

Photoshop :: Custom Shape With Gradient

Aug 15, 2006

My question is about gradients and anti-aliasing. I'm using PS 7.0 and what I want to do is use the custom shape tool, and fill the shape with a gradient. Not difficult, but here's where I get caught. After the shape is filled, I'd like the edges to remain anti-aliased.

For example, if I use the custom shape tool to create a hand print with anti-aliased edges, then use the magic want to select it. Next I grab my fore and back colors, choose a linear gradient and drag it in the appropriate direction. The selected shape is filled the way I want, but when I deselect, the edges have become pixelated. Is there a way to avoid this and keep them smooth? I tried using the blur tool and blur filter, but they don't quite have the same look.
