Revit :: Rotated Elevation Marker With Orthogonal Symbol?
Mar 6, 2012With the new(ish) Revit elevation markers, the help files show how to set up an elevation marker that has a horizontal line through it, with detail number above the line, sheet number below it. That works well for orthogonal elevations, but when the elevation is at an angle the central line rotates. How do we stop this - I want the central line to stay horizontal like it does in East, North, South & West elevations (likewise the label locations)?

Oct 3, 2011I have an elevation symbol that works OK as a regular block with attributes. Except it takes four of them to look right depending on orientation. But when I try to make just one dynamic block I run into the text/attribute thing.

Illustrator :: Can't Get Custom Symbol To Map To 3D Shape
Nov 23, 2012I'm trying to map a custom symbol to a 3D object in Illustrator. I've created the symbol and added it to the symbol library. Pre-installed symbols are mapping just fine when I follow the proper procedure, but for some reason my custom symbol doesn't map. I've followed the exact same process that works for the pre-made symbols, but the custom symbol doesn't map regardless of the type of 3D effect I'm using (Bevel & Extrude, Rotate, or Revolve).
I'm running Illustrator CS5 on Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Background info
- I create BIG amounts of assets (for UI design) in Adobe Illustrator which I save as Symbols.
- I store these symbols in a custom symbol library so I can re-use them in a different file
- Reason A: to be able to re-use these symbols within the Illustrator file to visualize different "interaction flows" to my clients
- Reason B: I use vector assets because they allow me to accommodate for different screen resolutions in the future
Wish
A: I would like to be able to open the same symbol library I created in Illustrator in Photoshop and drag the symbols onto my Photoshop canvas.
B: If I change a symbol in Illustrator it should be updated in my Photoshop file.

Sep 19, 2012I want to color cut/fill using red/greens schemes.
I want to use "interval with datum" method, and 2' intervals.
That gives like 20 rows for cut and fill, and so c3d applies one red to 5 rows, then next red to another 5, and so on.
I could pick colors by hand, but that dumb dialog is so slow, and its not easy to visually pick a nice gradation.
Is there no way to say "step from this color to that"?
Even when I do get all set up, I am finding performance of displaying the 2d solids takes forever.
I obviously have a large surface, but that is why we pay for good software right?
I am on c3d 2012 on a fast 64 bit win 7 machine. [URL]
AutoCAD Inventor :: Model Parameter Text In Custom Symbol
Jun 27, 2012Just installed 2013 Pro x64 and I'm doing a little testing. Using Tube and Pipe, I created a few mock pipe runs which are named according to a unique line number. When clicking on the Iproperties of any of these pipe runs, I can see that the value of model parameter "Part Number" now includes the name of the top level assembly and the line number, which is the name I assigned to the pipe run when I created it (see Fig 1 attached). Then in IDW I created a user defined symbol which contains text that I have directed to extract value of "part number" from the model properties, and fill in my symbol with that value (see Fig 2). The problem is, when I tag the pipe run with my custom symbol, the value in the symbol remains blank, instead of giving me the value of "part number". WHAT am I missing??

Feb 26, 2014I am in the process of drawing up an existing building and firstly am setting up with the building mass. I have managed to get the main bodys of the building done and the main roof.The problem now is that when i switch too the east or west elevations to add mass for the roofs on the adjoining wings of the building it wont let me see the model lines when i draw them in the screen i just get an error message " None of the created elements are visible in Elevation: East View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings. "I have my reference line set not far from the building and it seemed fine when i done the roof from the north and south views for the main building. I can see the model lines when i switch too 3D views but i cant create the mass from there.

The only answer I've found is to use linework, but that can't be the way to go in a program such as revit. That's the whole point of it, right? To not have to sit and do things manually and then have to change the lines every time something in the building changes. I know that Archicad can show line thickness depending on distance from elevation line. And god do i dislike Archicad, but that's exactly what I'm looking for.
Another answer I've found is to use shadows, but then you get the problem of only being able to print as raster = no sharp lines.
Revit :: Levels Not Showing In Elevation
May 9, 2010I have inherited some Revit files, all of which have a ground floor and ceiling plan (hence an associated level).
The levels do not show the in elevations (or sections for that matter). It is not a view setting, I have checked this, nor are they hidden by category or element. I have added new levels and these are visible. The levels exist, I just cannot view them or select them.

May 30, 2012The level lines appear in the east elevation but not the building. The elevation marker tab is blank, unlike the N,W,and S tab.

Revit :: Zero Z-elevation In Topo Surface
Oct 7, 2013I received from our client a dwg file. i follow the steps in creating a topo surface file from a dwg within revit. However, revt include also the zero Z-elevation points within the file. And so it igave me a very weird result of the toposurface.
Know any good procedure in preparing a dwg file before importing/linking to revit or rather excluding all zero Z-elevation points.

Dec 30, 2013A coworker believes an elevation tag can be placed in plan view A, but can be moved in plan view B without relocating it in plan view A. My experience...move an elevation tag in one view and it will be relocated in all views. Is there a way to have two different locations but reference the same elevation?

Jul 18, 2013What I would like to do is create a custom dialogue for each of 3 or 4 standard sketch symbols we use on a regular basis. I'd like to load 'suggsted' values out of an excel spreadsheet and allow the user to pick from them or enter in a custom text string if required. The values would then become part of the sketch symbol.
I've spent some time looking into iLogic rules and I think I've determined that they're not flexible enough to do what I want.
If I'm correct, it is possible (or a good idea) to do this using a VBA macro? I'm a little hesitant to go down the full blown add-in route. While I'm pretty confident I could work it out.
Revit :: Default Elevation When Inserting Families
Jan 6, 2012What determines the default elevation when inserting familes? I have a wall hosted family that always defaults to 4'-0". I have tried setting the default elevation in the family but it always defaults back to 4'. I have this issue with other familes as well.
I know I can set the elevation when I insert it but having to so that every time seems pointless when the elevation will never change for a family.

Revit :: Moving Model To New Vertical Elevation?
Jul 28, 2011My problem is trying to move the project model to a new elevation some 1000+ feet higher than the 0'0" schematic design elevation. When using the "shared" solution, it will work for the model but not for the Topo as the topo is also tied to the Project base point, so when one uses shared it also moves the topo map 1000+ feet higher. I'm trying to find a way where the project elevation can be adjusted to the base point elevation so both topo and model elevations coordinate with each other. It's a 4 level project with many exterior retaining wall levels. I'm almost to the point of doing a full copy of the project to the clipboard and then importing it at the level 1000+ feet higher.

I have been told that we need to fake in level markers because to change the level heights will cause all the information (for example dimensions) to disappear because they are 'tied' to the original level height. Is there a way to raise the building without loosing all the work that has been done?

Revit :: Elevation Default View Height?
Apr 3, 2013Ive got a problem with creating elevations. When I create an elevation on my floor plan - in this instance level 5 of my 30 storey building I open up the elevation and see the attached view. Its crop region is only 3mm high and therefore only shows me the floor of level 5 instead of the whole elevation of level 5 to the underside of the level 6 slab.
