what is the purpose of the histogram display on the adjust pane. can it be modified from there? Also - what is the purpose of the four boxes below the histogram display?
Together they take up too much real estate to be there just for looks .
I live in the American Southwest and during the summers here the light is very harsh, the skies are usually completely clear and there are few, if any, shadows at mid-day. A couple of days ago a large red-tailed hawk had landed on a tree near where I live and I had the chance to shoot a lot of (Canon 7D) RAW images of the hawk with the bright sky behind. After processing I found I was not happy with the way the photos came out with my usual photo software (Dxo and Elements , so I re-installed a copy of PSPP X3 on my computer and thought I would try to use layers to darken the sky without darkening the hawk (if I can figure out how to use layers...).
But I noticed that when I opened the histogram palette that there was no graph display other than what looked like a single stright line (with no width) in the center of the photo. I tried several other RAW photos and they were pretty much the same - sometimes empty, sometimes very, very small curves, but so low on the graph that it was easy to not even see them. I then tried some of the converted jpgs from Dxo and Elements 8 and they seemed OK. Visible histograms with normal height. The other software I have displays the RAW histograms normally. The distribution is not pleasant because there is such a bright background, but the curves are easily visible and of normal height. I began to wonder if there was some issue with PSPP X3 processing RAW Canon cr2 images that might be causing this problem for me.
My PSPP X3 is up to date with all service packs, but I can find nothing of this issue in the knowledgebase.
Not sure why but, none of my presets on the right-hand side pane is showing up. How do I fix this without (i guess) re-installing PSP? I've included a screen capture below.

Corel's manual shows photos of before/after views in several examples, but there is no info on how to bring them up. Some of the answers here say things like "Use the window" don't know where that is "Simulate a before/after" - Are you kidding? "Click on filters" - doesn't work Use Adjust menu.
WHY does Corel show all those samples but not have a way to do it?On page 130 of the PaintShop Pro X4 manual, there is a discussion and a picture of a Before/After situation, but nowhere is there any info on how to bring it up.
I just wanted to say that it appeared sometime in X5. I didn't install X5 until SP3 was available. I don't know if it first showed up in one of the SPs since I only ever installed SP3. In X4, I work with the Histogram Palette docked below the image at all times so I can monitor what is happening as I work within the various adjustments. If I check/uncheck the "Preview on Image" box, I can toggle the differences on the histogram as I work. This is invaluable functionality. I depend on it for my work. [I wish the Histogram window would give me readouts of Histogram values when I place my mouse over the Histogram window, but that is an enhancement request for another day.] Now with X5, I can ONLY dock the Histogram window over on the right side. This is about the most braindead place for it, as the width is extremely limited, which limits the scale at which change information is displayed to the point of being useless. Seemingly more braindead, while docked, the only dimension in which the Histogram can be expanded without sacrificing image preview size is vertically. Corel has taken what was a very useful tool and rendered it mostly useless. Knowing this is also a problem in X6, I will not be purchasing that version unless it has been fixed, which I gather has not happened yet. I tried to Save an X4 Workspace and Load it into X5, but X5 cannot even open an X4 Workspace. I guess Workspaces are another USELESS "feature" since Corel seems not to preserve basic function across Revs.

The histogram is missing from the histogram adjustment window. Everything is there and works but no histogram. How can you adjust it without histogram? What is up with this? It works in x2.
Is this the only place now? I thought it was available in Edit mode. What about all the people (and there are a lot of us) who only use Edit mode? Surely it was available in before the last service pack? Who has not installed SP2 know? We have this in all previous versions of PSP that I have used.

By pressing "shift + a" will make "manage/adjust/edit" tabs disappear. To show the tabs, it is just necessary to press "shift + a" again. It will give more workspace. This feature just works when you are in "edit" tab. In the other tabs none happens.
Usually I only use Edit Mode in X4.Recently I have been exploring Manage Mode and now decided to try Adjust Mode.I have found that everytime I leave Adjust Mode to go to Edit Mode or Manage ModeI get an error "Encountered an improper argument".
View 14 Replies View RelatedI purchased PSP 5 and uninstalled PSP 4. After installation, I am unable to see any image previews in manage, adjust or edit mode. I have installed the service pack updates with no change in this absent function. Neither the main window nor the organizer palette will display any jpg image previews. I CAN go manually to a specific file and open the image and edit it at will, but I cannot see any previews of any images in the main or organizer palette. how to get the program to display image previews. I never had this problem before in any of the previous PSP versions. I have also uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled the program to no avail.

As part of my new year plans I'm busy sorting through shots I took last year on my Canon EOS 550D.
I took many shots in both JPEG and RAW format (same shot in each).
The JPEG images display and can be edited perfectly well in X3 but not the RAW files.
In the Organiser all shots (JPEG and RAW) look fine along the bottom strip.
But when I select a RAW file it displays momentarily in the main view as a slightly fuzzy image and then jumps to an elongated, vivid red & black image. Looking more closely X3 is cropping and NOT displaying three quarters of the right hand side of the shot. I just get a thin strip from the left hand side of the original shot.
A double click in Organiser takes me to the Camera RAW Lab where I get the same thin strip, red & black image.
I cannot seem to get the Help menu item to work at all. Every time I select Help -> Help Topics... I get a dialog box with the following error message: Web Works Help display fail! I've reinstalled PSP twice. And I downloaded the latest update.
View 13 Replies View RelatedHave been running the trial version of Lightroom 3.6 for the past three weeks. I see that it cannot handle or display PNG format, of which I have over 11,000 images. PNG is my primary WORKING format for single layer images due to its lossless compression, support for EXIF data, and transparency later. Lightroom creates tens of thousands of tiny folders and catalog files that are difficult to defragment and greatly complicate my routine backups. I must comment that Adobe filters, especially Noise Reduction are really great but the lack of PNG support is a show stopper.
Also ran Lightroom Synchronize to add recent photos to the Canon folder and for some reason it changed the date stamp on over 3 GB of photos to the present day. When I went about a routine backup of the photos, the backup software wanted to completely overwright all the files with TODAYS date on the MyBook drive!! What? no way. So now I must RESTORE all these files BACK to the original date stamps. This is way over the top. Plus Lightroom is very slow to complete the Sync task, and might even take two passes.
In pre X4 releases, I could glance in the lower right of the program, hover my mouse over an image and it will tell me it's properites (color depth, size, etc...).
How can I turn this feature back on in X4?
I use PSP X3 for web image editing and am sometimes sent jpeg files which are in CMYK format. Unfortunately PSP does not display the colours in these files correctly. Yellow will display as brown, pale blue as turquoise and pink as purple for example.
If I open the same file in almost any other programme, including the humble "Paint", the colours display fine and my workaround up until now has been to open in another programme, copy the picture to the clip board and then paste it into PSP as a new image. The colours are then fine but it greatly increases my work time, especially when I have many images to process.
Surely there must be a way to get these images to display correctly. It has nothing to do with monitor or gamma adjustment otherwise they would display incorrectly in all other programmes also.
Maybe it is a bug or just something that Corel have overlooked. RGB jpegs display fine, the problem only occurs with CMYK images.
Is there a way to have the thumbnail display on the bottom of the Organizer screen use a vertical scroll bar on the far right instead of the horizontal scroll bar below? Or, can I enlarge the size of the thumbnail display area without enlarging the size of the thumbnails? (Which means, I suppose, being able to specify what size I want the thumbnails displayed.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wish to report a bug that has been present in x4 and x5 regardless of SP or updates installed. Due to this bug I use X3 as it was the last version that worked for me.
The bug is that several menu buttons on the Edit screen will not display correctly, it is as if the icon is corrupted. This happens with the free trial version as well as with a registered version with updates installed.

I am trying to model a window pane with old, crackled paint. First I tried to build something myself, using smoke maps and cellular maps, but couldn't get it to look realistic. So now I found a great texture on CG Textures.
But it is a 2D texture and I can't get it to look right on my 3D window pane. I tried using the map on UV, VW and WU projections, I even made three materials, one for each projection, but I keep getting lines in stead of paint cracks. Maybe it's the tiling, but there I also tried low numbers and high numbers.
Do I need to unwrap the UVs (I did see some that use the standard primitives, but my window is an editable poly).

Though PSP no longer supports Animation Shop, up until PSP X4, the user has been able to export frames back to PSP from Animation Shop. Now, this no longer works! If I copy and paste the Harley "S" on the right side of "Cycles".. it's a no brainer. If I copy and paste the "s" in Cycles and try to move it to the left for the first letter in their last name.. I can't seem to bend it the right way so the bottom of the S follows the curvature of the shield like the other one..
I'm working now on a project with canvas size A4 (5600x4200).i'm working with large objects and small objects each in its own layer.i wanted to align few object in a certain way and i wanted to use the grid for this.however the grid is so small and can only be seen using 66% and more zoom in. which makes it impossible to align the object since i can't see all of them together.
is there any way to adjust the grid to be in proportion to the correct zoom or not window ? as a workaround i found is the grid plugin , but with it i must recreate the grid for each zoom size and its hard to work like this. having the grid adjusted automatically or at least allow max/min setting for it so it can be seen in an A4 size canvas.
If there is a tool where I can take a selection & adjust it all different directions? I'm looking along the lines of taking a text selection & doing what I did with "flounder" & "Harmonic prophecy" in the attached pic. Nothing fancy. Just something I can't figure out. I used a different program to do that flier.

I would like to be able to adjust the aggressive of smoothing quality. This would allow me to draw very smooth curve with minimal effort using a mouse.
Gimp 2 has this option Smooth stroke I really like it but too bad, gimp 2 is slow to load and is not as lean as Paint.net. I suppose it should be something like a setting, not an effect that applies after the curves have been drawn.

The first thing I do with any new drawing tool is
1. Draw a square.
2. Select the square.
3. Begin tweaking the square's properties--stroke width and color, fill, pattern, etc.
So how do you select the object you just drew? All I'm seeing is 'select an area' tools, which of course won't work for adjusting a specific drawing object.
