Another problem, this one since installing Service Pack 1.
The histogram is missing from the histogram adjustment window. Everything is there and works but no histogram. How can you adjust it without histogram? What is up with this? It works in x2.
under Windows 7 pro and psp13.2.0.14 it don't work anymore. I even try to make it work in an old version of psp: V9.10. It still didn't work. Does any of you know something about kpt 5.1? I think it fail because of upgrades by Windows7 pro.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use Color Balance and the window doesn't work. The only part that shows is the "Enhance Color Balance" box, the words "purple" and "green" just above, and the preview arrow (which does nothing) and "preview on image". Preview on image is checked and it does show changes but I am unable to uncheck it. Nothing else shows. Nothing I have tried has worked, including restarting the computer.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running PaintShop Pro X5 15.1.0.10 on Windows 8 (64-bit). I just tried to create a drop shadow, possibly for the first time since I upgraded from X4, and it just doesn't work. I mean nothing happens.
I added a white border, as usual, and then tried to create my drop shadow. I tried it with the default settings, and I tried it with some random settings. As I said, nothing whatsoever happened.
Inner bevel and buttonize work just fine. (I haven't tried cutout.) Chisel also doesn't seem to work; in fact, it seems to come and go. It's the same with outer bevel: it isn't always available.
I'm not a novice when it comes to PaintShop Pro. I've been using it since it was shareware. I've certainly done drop shadows many times.
I'm completely baffled. Other than uninstalling and re-installing, I can't think what to do.
Screen capture doesnt work in psp x4. I tried searching for this but no info at all on it. I have to resort to using the print screen option in windows and then paste as new image.

I select some jpegs in the Organizer and click the "Share as E-mail" button... and what does it do? It puts up an alert saying There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.
After looking at reviews, I took the big step and bought the download version of Photo Pro X3, which got me a 2nd download file called Photo Essentials 4. Installed X3 first, then PE4. I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled 'till I'm blue in the face. X3 looks like a good product, at least with the little I've done so far. But . . .
When I start Photo Essentials, which opens as Photo Project Creator, I get nowhere. Step one: selecting what you want to create works fine. However, on the screen where photo selection should be made, I only get the Desktop and My Computer icons, and My computer won't expand.
After 2 days of frustration, I decided to install ONLY Photo Essentials 4 on my wife's PC to see what happened. It opened with a screen that said Photo Essentials 4 at the top, and something that would allow me to paint over the top of a picture. Doesn't even resemble what opens on my PC.
Both PC's are running Windows XP Media Ed. I've noticed apparently similar problem with Windows 7, but is this really just the norm? I tried the cure I found elsewhere in this forum, by shutting down certain processes, and deleting everything within Digital Studio, but it didn't change anything.
According to URL....I should be able to sample a color from the desktop. This doesn't work when I try to capture a color from a web page displayed in IE 10 (desktop mode).
It does work with Chrome, and I suspect other browsers as well (haven't the time to try them all).
I live in the American Southwest and during the summers here the light is very harsh, the skies are usually completely clear and there are few, if any, shadows at mid-day. A couple of days ago a large red-tailed hawk had landed on a tree near where I live and I had the chance to shoot a lot of (Canon 7D) RAW images of the hawk with the bright sky behind. After processing I found I was not happy with the way the photos came out with my usual photo software (Dxo and Elements , so I re-installed a copy of PSPP X3 on my computer and thought I would try to use layers to darken the sky without darkening the hawk (if I can figure out how to use layers...).
But I noticed that when I opened the histogram palette that there was no graph display other than what looked like a single stright line (with no width) in the center of the photo. I tried several other RAW photos and they were pretty much the same - sometimes empty, sometimes very, very small curves, but so low on the graph that it was easy to not even see them. I then tried some of the converted jpgs from Dxo and Elements 8 and they seemed OK. Visible histograms with normal height. The other software I have displays the RAW histograms normally. The distribution is not pleasant because there is such a bright background, but the curves are easily visible and of normal height. I began to wonder if there was some issue with PSPP X3 processing RAW Canon cr2 images that might be causing this problem for me.
My PSPP X3 is up to date with all service packs, but I can find nothing of this issue in the knowledgebase.
what is the purpose of the histogram display on the adjust pane. can it be modified from there? Also - what is the purpose of the four boxes below the histogram display?
Together they take up too much real estate to be there just for looks .
I just wanted to say that it appeared sometime in X5. I didn't install X5 until SP3 was available. I don't know if it first showed up in one of the SPs since I only ever installed SP3. In X4, I work with the Histogram Palette docked below the image at all times so I can monitor what is happening as I work within the various adjustments. If I check/uncheck the "Preview on Image" box, I can toggle the differences on the histogram as I work. This is invaluable functionality. I depend on it for my work. [I wish the Histogram window would give me readouts of Histogram values when I place my mouse over the Histogram window, but that is an enhancement request for another day.] Now with X5, I can ONLY dock the Histogram window over on the right side. This is about the most braindead place for it, as the width is extremely limited, which limits the scale at which change information is displayed to the point of being useless. Seemingly more braindead, while docked, the only dimension in which the Histogram can be expanded without sacrificing image preview size is vertically. Corel has taken what was a very useful tool and rendered it mostly useless. Knowing this is also a problem in X6, I will not be purchasing that version unless it has been fixed, which I gather has not happened yet. I tried to Save an X4 Workspace and Load it into X5, but X5 cannot even open an X4 Workspace. I guess Workspaces are another USELESS "feature" since Corel seems not to preserve basic function across Revs.

Before I was able to do in and touch up shadowy areas using (K) adjustment brush, but now it doesn;t seem to work. The radial brush does a good job for a defined area but for SPOT touching I have always used the the adjustment brush?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI'm using 3-5 adjustment layers on some of my work. Even though I have larger files, without Adjustment layers, once I add an Adjustment Layer to ANY piece of work things slowdown big time. For example a 'normal' curves application is almost instant. But if I add a curves Adjustment Layer then what took 1-2 second takes 10-15 seconds using an Adjustment Layer.
So is there something that Adjustment Layers are doing that is a computer hog? Or am I overlooking something? Or are they just configured in such away that they are naturally slower? [URL]....
PSP is and has always been THE best graphics app with a truly intuitive interface and useful set of features & tools.
I have been using it for many, many years... sniffed around other products, but always returned, fully satisfied with what I can achieve. I've also written a suite of scripts to further enhance my use of it alongside my photography hobby.
HOWEVER... since Corel took it over and the start of the X series, there has been a serious and very annoying omission concerning the Crop tool. Previous versions up to v9 allowed the user to grab hold of the edges of the crop box ANYWHERE along ANY side, and drag/extend/reduce the size of the box. This allowed us photographers to zoom in to pixel level and grab any part of the visible box to adjust the crop dimensions very accurately. This is a very important feature for photographers.
The new X interface has changed the crop box to 'vector node handles' only for adjustment, which are not always visible when zoomed in. This means that instead of being able to align the box accurately to an image feature or row of pixels, you have to zoom out until you can find the nearest handle to use, or scroll up/down left/right, which either takes you away from the area you want to work on, or zoom too far out to see the detail you want for alignment.
option/preference to ditch the vector handles and grab the sides as before. I know you may think it a backward step, but you've taken away the very function that photographers need for cropping a composition, which is available in other products.
I bought PSP about a year or so ago, but grew frustrated with it and reverted back to Gimp. Now, however, I think I am ready to jump back.. and I encountered originally back then.
Basically, in some of the adjustment layers (Local Tone Mapping, Fill Light & Clarity) the mask doesn't work. When I click on the mask control the mask color in the dialog switches from white to black, but the screen doesn't revert back to underlying layer.This is very repeatable. It only happens in some AL, others like Layers and Curves work reliably.
I am on W7 x 64, PSP X4 v 14.2.01
Comparing X3 and X4 ...
Is there no way to use the eraser (or delete selections) on adjustment layers? I do/did this routinely in X3. I have missed some sort of configuration setting in X4!?
In PSPx2 I used to select an area in an adjustment layer and then use the Flood Fill tool to create a mask. Did it quite often.
In PSPx4 the Flood Fill tool doesn't seem to work on adjustment layers. I can get the desired effect using the Airbrush, but it's a tedious and imprecise technique. Is this a known bug (I searched the forum but couldn't find it) or an intentional change?
Not sure why but, none of my presets on the right-hand side pane is showing up. How do I fix this without (i guess) re-installing PSP? I've included a screen capture below.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery time I use adjustments like brightness/contrast, PSP seems to remember those settings, because the next time I use them, they start with the same values as I used before. But I do not want that. This way I always have to move all sliders to their zero position before adjusting. Every image needs different values and I always like to start from scratch (zero values).
So, how can I tell PSP not to remember those settings every time?
When I pull up the levels windows both are black. If I reduce the image in the windows, I get a small black square. I have used this feature on various versions for years.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFrom X3 to X4, Corel added a "Block Size" control to the Local Tone Mapping adjustment. Is it the number of pixels over which the contrast adjustment is being applied? It seems that the smaller block sizes reduce the effect's harshness (when it could be harsh, e.g., with faces).
Checked the manual and they forgot to mention it.
I found out that there is a way to show clipping areas in Photoshop when adjusting levels via an adjustment layer. While moving the slider, you hold down the ALT key.
I tried this in PSP X3 and it does not work. Any feature for seeing the clipping preview is available in Paint Shop Pro? It's a nice feature.
Now that I've upgraded to X6 64 bit, my windows 8 explorer does not show .pspimage thumbnails.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have X4 Ultimate installed with KPT Effects & Nik Color Effex Pro 3. I now also have X5 Ultimate installed. Now X5 came with the same Nik Color Effex but I haven't installed it yet.Does KPT Effects from X4 will work in X5? Can I copy the folder from X4 into X5? (Same question pertains to the NIk Color Effex. Useful to install it again when it's already intalled to get it working in X5.)
I thought about just trying to point X5 to the X4 plugin folder but after just trying that with something else, I'm a little leary. I tried to point X5 to the Photoshop CS6 folder where AlienSkin Eye Candy 6 installed. But right after doing that and re-starting PSP, the startup box hung. I used task manager to stop it but the program still opened anyway. I knew that wasn't right, so I removed the link to that folder and X5 opened normally again. The newest installer for Eye Candy 6 won't let me do a custom install. So, how to get the filter working in X5.
Anyway, my main question is if I can get the KPT effects from X4 working in X5 and if so what I need to do.
I'm just getting started with PSP. In a book I bought it saves that, after I enable the Auto-preserve function, the dialog box should come up after I click on file, then save.
The Box isn't coming up. Why is this.
Also, what's the best way to save a RAW file before I stare working on it?
i have a black written logo with some letters in blue and i want to change the color into green.
the problem is that at the edge of each letter the color is slightly different (light blue) to make it look smoother.
if i now take the color bucket and fill the letter up, the color changes but it gets filled with the same color until the edges and it doesn't look smooth again.
changing the antialias effekt doesn't effect anything -

is this possible with Paint.NET or should i consider to buy photoshop because of this lack of functionality?
