Paint.NET :: Lighten And Darkening Specific Areas Correctly

Jun 6, 2008

I need to know the best way to lighten part of a picture without it being two-toned. An example of this is when I took a picture of someone inside a house.

The orange dress is vivid, and the white wall and door came out good also. The problem is that the lighting wasn't good enough to bring out the true skin tone of the person. So much so that the person's face could hardly be seen, and her neck and hands came out the same as her face also.

I tried to lighten her face by using the Ellipse in Tools>Adjustment>Brightness/Contrast making sure not to go outside the perimeter of the face. I then zoomed to 1600X and manually changed the rest of it a few pixels at a time by switching to the Rectangle in Tools . The result after more than an hour later was something that looked akin to pasting an egg in place of her face on the picture. It was grainy and looked ridiculous.

I don't want to lighten the whole picture because it ruins the true color of the dress, and not as important, the door and walls don't look as sharp and vivid either.

P.S. I would also like to know how to do the reverse; darken a specific area without the two-toned look.

Paint.NET :: Apply Darkening Tool To Certain Part Of Image

Mar 9, 2013

I'm looking to take a certain part of an image (a small shape of it) and then apply darkening, progressively, from that small area.  That is, the image gets darker and darker as it radiates out from that shape. Like a vignette, but progressively darkening from the point rather than a strait darkness.

Tried playing around with curves and didn't really do this effect.

Paint.NET :: Darkening Lines In Drawing And Keeping Relative Gradient

Sep 18, 2011

How do i darken and maybe thicken all lines in a line drawing?

I need to darken the grey lines in a two color (grey & green) line drawing since they are hard to see.

One way is a fill but there maybe some quick method that proportionately darkens just the grey pixels while preserving the relative grey gradient between grey pixels.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Change A Specific Attribute From Specific Block To Specific Value

Dec 7, 2011

I've had a simple lisp I've been using for years that suddenly disappeared.  It required that you identify a block name, tag name, and the value that you want the tag to be.  All of this is performed via command line, so it is scriptable.  Since I lost it, I've been experimenting with -attedit.  This command comes frustratingly close to what I'm looking for, except it only appends an existing tag, or replaces a specific string within the tag; I can't get it to replace the entire tag, regardless of its value.

1> Any lisp routine that does what I describe?
or
2> How to make -attedit replace a tag value without regard to what the value currently is (like a * wildcard)?

Paint Shop Pro :: Cutting Out Image Areas

Jul 24, 2013

Here are the instructions in the manual:

To cut out an image area

Edit workspace

1 On the Layers palette, click the layer that contains the image area that you want to cut out.

2 Choose Image * Object Extractor.

The Object Extractor dialog box appears, with the Brush tool activated by default.

3 Adjust the brush size by moving the Brush size slider.

4 In the preview area, draw a line along the edges of the image area that you want to cut out.

Ensure that the selection outline slightly overlaps the surrounding background and completely surrounds the area in a closed ring.

5 Choose the Fill tool , and click inside the area you want to cut out.

An overlay covers the image area that you clicked.

Note: If the selection outline is not closed, the fill covers the entire image. If this is the case, click the Eraser tool to clear the fill, and then complete the selection outline with the Brush tool.

6 Click Process to preview the result.

If you are not happy with the result, click Edit Mask to return to the previous view and touch up the cutout.

- - -

I get down to No. 6 but I'll be darned if I know where/how to "Click process to preview the result."

GIMP :: Paint / Fill Antialiased Areas Of PNG?

Oct 26, 2010

I've used GIMP to great effect for quite a while now but I know I'm taking the long way around on a lot of things because I'm not very savvy on CG stuff, so I thought I'd ask here. I actually was registered with Gimptalk but it appears to be gone? Anyway...

I am currently making my own 'original artwork' by using usually open source/public domain photos and such, and using transparent layers to "draw" lines over them, making my own lineart. My problem is that I can't seen to find a "turn antialising off" checkbox in GIMP.

Even if I did, I do some postprocessing in Inkscape to turn the lineart into something more smooth, and then it re-antialiases (is that even a word) the picture, and when I try to use the paintbucket to fill in the lineart to get simple color pictures, I get lots of white specks and dots from the antialiased edges of the smooth lines.

What do I need to do to a picture to make sure I can fill spaces with a color right up to the lines, AFTER it has been antialiased, in my example? I can't use duotone or index to 2bit color or whatever, because that bites chunks out of the black lines and also destroys the smoothness of the Inkscape processing, but even if I haven't used that, it still reduces the lines spottily.

I've tried turning the tolerance way up and filling the areas with white first, hoping the white and the near-white specks will be close enough to "bleed" together so I have one color, and then paint with the desired color, but it still has specks.

Also, how to do lineart to achieve the same results I'm trying to achieve. I'm hand-tracing over the lines by eye, which, though I'm good at it and it doesn't take long, is more time consuming than it probably should be, and tedious.

Paint.NET :: Mask Existing Areas In Image?

Feb 19, 2013

My primary graphics task is working with application screencaps... mainly masking out private customer information, and sometimes overlaying 'dummy' data in its place. With a drawing program, the process goes like this:Draw a box somewhere near the field I'm masking.Use the color-matching tool to ensure that the box matches the field.Resize and reposition the box to exactly cover the field.(Optional) Repeat this process with a text box to present the 'dummy' data on top. However, my workplace requires us to use Paint, which doesn't support drawing actions like this (moving and resizing objects). Is there some other way to accomplish this task with the tools Paint does have?

GIMP :: Aerial Photo Of Island - Make Water Areas Black And Land Areas White

Jan 29, 2013

In the image below I have an aerial photo of an Island. I need to make it so as water areas are black and land areas are white (not greyscale) almost like a silhouette. My first plan was to draw round the island with a black paint brush and then use the "bucket fill" with a suitable threshold to fill all of the areas up to the black outline with black, however this doesn't work as the bucket fill either breaks through the black line or when I reduce the threshold, doesn't color the water areas solidly.

But when I go to layer 3 to move that text into place, it will move part of 2, or the original picture layer. Do I need to disable something?

Lightroom :: Paint With Clone Tool Out-of-Canvas Areas Created By Perspective Correction

Oct 29, 2013

In Lightroom 5 I really like the Perspective Correction tool which always produces white Out-of-Canvas areas as a result of image deformation. As a "constain crop" very often would cut out a lot of interesting details, I love to Crop the image a bit wider. The problem are the white areas remaining that were not present in the original, undistorted image.I would love to fill them in with the Clone Tool, but it does not seem to work on those areas!

To make a complicated story simple just look at this image:My aim here is to fill in the bottom left white by simply cloning the missing part of the column. This is a super-easy job which I could do with Lightroom clone tool in seconds. Shall I report it as a BUG? (if so, how?)

So as it stands, I can get my layer onto the background image but I can't resize or reposition it at all.
