Paint Shop Pro :: Cutting Out Image Areas

Jul 24, 2013

Here are the instructions in the manual:

To cut out an image area

Edit workspace

1 On the Layers palette, click the layer that contains the image area that you want to cut out.

2 Choose Image * Object Extractor.

The Object Extractor dialog box appears, with the Brush tool activated by default.

3 Adjust the brush size by moving the Brush size slider.

4 In the preview area, draw a line along the edges of the image area that you want to cut out.

Ensure that the selection outline slightly overlaps the surrounding background and completely surrounds the area in a closed ring.

5 Choose the Fill tool , and click inside the area you want to cut out.

An overlay covers the image area that you clicked.

Note: If the selection outline is not closed, the fill covers the entire image. If this is the case, click the Eraser tool to clear the fill, and then complete the selection outline with the Brush tool.

6 Click Process to preview the result.

If you are not happy with the result, click Edit Mask to return to the previous view and touch up the cutout.

- - -

I get down to No. 6 but I'll be darned if I know where/how to "Click process to preview the result."

Paint Shop Pro :: Cutting Sections Out Of Image Using Vector Selection

Jul 8, 2012

I want to cut out a section of an image and drop it onto a white background in another image.

I drew a vector point to point line around the area I wanted to copy and chose "selection from vector object" thinking that this would select the region inside the vector object. I then tried "copy merged" from the menu and pasted the clipboard into the new image. Now this didn't work and the copy only seems to copy the what is under the selection line rather than what is enclosed.

Paint Shop Pro :: Show Clipping Areas When Adjusting Levels Via Adjustment Layer?

I found out that there is a way to show clipping areas in Photoshop when adjusting levels via an adjustment layer. While moving the slider, you hold down the ALT key.

I tried this in PSP X3 and it does not work. Any feature for seeing the clipping preview is available in Paint Shop Pro? It's a nice feature.

Paint.NET :: Mask Existing Areas In Image?

Feb 19, 2013

My primary graphics task is working with application screencaps... mainly masking out private customer information, and sometimes overlaying 'dummy' data in its place. With a drawing program, the process goes like this:Draw a box somewhere near the field I'm masking.Use the color-matching tool to ensure that the box matches the field.Resize and reposition the box to exactly cover the field.(Optional) Repeat this process with a text box to present the 'dummy' data on top. However, my workplace requires us to use Paint, which doesn't support drawing actions like this (moving and resizing objects). Is there some other way to accomplish this task with the tools Paint does have?

Paint.NET :: Cutting Large Image Into Smaller Pieces For Printing

Jun 3, 2011

In a nutshell - I am a seamstress attempting to make a pattern. Well, I have made the pattern - drawn it out on a large sheet of paper. I have manually "cut" it into letter-sized parts and scanned those parts onto my computer (with hash marks so that the parts can be matched back up to make the larger whole pattern).

I have spent a lot of time redrawing the lines in paint.net so they are neat and clean and more even. But then I went to print them and sizing is totally messed up and I am just not able to get my brain around this sizing thing. I need to be able to send these files to customers so they can print them out, put them together and have a pattern.

So, in effect, I have a large image that I want to print in puzzle pieces but they must maintain their *real* *life-sized* size. I'm attaching one of the individual files. What I need to do to it to make it be 8.5" x 11".

The image is not a photograph, but since I have Paint Shop Pro X3 and like how it works, I thought I would try it . I have spent some time trying to do this with Paint Shop Pro X3 with no luck. None of the pre-defined frames seemed to do what I need. I would also like to create a drop-shadow behind the image. how to do this or a video that I can watch. A list of steps would also be OK.

Paint Shop Pro :: How To Create Image Of DOT To Add To Another Image

Dec 19, 2011

I have an image of a map and want to create a number of individual images of that map each with a large white dot with a black edge (to highlight different cities).

I have created a separate image of the dot using both transparent background and normal background and then attempted to use EDIT>COPY the image of the dot and then EDIT>PASTE to the image of the map but no matter which PASTE option I use I cannot achieve what I want to.

Also (different problem) I lost my MATERIAL PALETTE. I noted that to restore it I could use VIEW>PALETTES and select MATERIALS but it was already selected. I also used the F6 key without success. I had to start PSP by pressing the SHIFT key when I started it to restore PSP to its defaults and then I could select and display it. So what stopped me from displaying it in the first place?

Paint Shop Pro :: How To Save RAW (CR2) Image

I can't get them to open and then save them as a .jpg or a .pspimage format in either PSP9 or in X3. In X3, when I click on the pic, it brings up the "Canon RAW Lab" dialogue box, showing a black and white image but with a deep pinkish cast to it. And there is no options to save it. I have an image which was originally made up of two other images side by side. They are both of similar colours and content but the dividing line between them is quite obvious. I don't have the original PSP files in order to use the selection and layer method of feathering them, so what would be the best way to get the pixels to blend across the join? I thought there was a tool in PSP to do this but can't find anything.

Paint Shop Pro :: V12 / How To Do A Transparent Image

Dec 30, 2011

I have 2 gif images. On image2 I have erased the background so as all you see is the checkerboerd.I want to place image2 (the visible part) on to image1.

I'm sure I have done all the correct procedures but the #2 image will show either a black or white background when pasted on to image 1.

These are the rules I followed. To make one image color transparent

1. Choose Image Palette Set Palette Transparency. If you are prompted to reduce the color depth and number of layers, click Yes to continue and then choose the options for decreasing color depth.

2. On the Set Palette Transparency dialog box, choose one of the following options:

• Set the transparency value to the current background color — makes the background color transparent

• Set the transparency value to a palette entry — specifies a color to be transparent. Click the color in the image, or click the color box to select from the current color picker. If you want to view the transparency, click Proof.

3. Click OK. The color is now transparent; however, it may still be displayed until you hide it.

Paint Shop Pro :: Best Image Treatment

Jan 2, 2012

I have 3 images which I am looking for the best treatment.

a) Dark hair: the woman has an dark hair which is almost blended with the background. What to do to bring more definition to hair and to “separate” it from background?
b) Face light: one side of the man face (and body) is with much brightness, blending with his white shirt yet. Is there any way do correct it?
c) Spot of light: in a slice of a landscape there is a spot with much clarity/brightness. I would prefer to bring more blue from the sky then light. On the other hand, maybe there is any way to take benefit of the light.

I'm having an issue with loading a photo into PSPx5. When I go to 'Open' and click on a thumbnail in a folder. Some/most times the thumbnail preview loads in a second or two. Then I can open the file. However every now and again I get a very long wait, 20-40 seconds, before the thumbnail loads. All files are approx 90 meg so it's not a file size issue. Just some thumbnails taking forever to load in the small preview window.

Paint Shop Pro :: X3 Copy Into New Image

Mar 21, 2011

New version of PSPPX3U. There are 2 problems which I find most upsetting.

1. I open an image, 256 x 128 in size and create a new image 768 x 128 in size.

I click on the 256 x 128 image to bring it into focus and Ctrl+A to select the whole image, and Ctrl+C to copy the whole image.

Then I bring the new image into focus, then Ctrl+E to place the copied image at the left side, the image covers the 128 area perfectly.

Once the image is placed I Ctrl+G to deselect the image, the image shrinks to leave a 3 pixel uncovered area on the bottom.

2. Let's say there are several images open and I want to close one of them, so I right click on the image name to open the tool menu.

Rather than giving the option to close that particular image, it gives the option to close all images.

But going up to File, I am now given the option to close that particular image.

Which is ars-backwards.

My system specs:
My PSPP3XU version : 13. 2. 1. 20

Paint Shop Pro :: Image DPI - New Pixel Dimensions

Sep 20, 2012

Most of the images I work with need to be saved at screen resolution (in my case that's 72 or 96 dpi).

In past versions, I'd load an image, usually 300 dpi, and when I resize the image (Image -> Resize), the default resolution was always 72 dpi. All I needed to do was set the new pixel dimensions that I wanted, and I was done.

In X5, the resize box is showing the actual current dpi of the picture I'm trying to resize.

Is there a way to set X5 so that the Resize function always defaults to a specific resolution (i.e. 96 dpi)?

Paint Shop Pro :: Recover Corrupted RAW (DNG) Image - Pro X4

Aug 20, 2012

I was working with a RAW photo and attempting output to JPEG when it seems that the original RAW image was corrupted somehow. It seems that the original image data is still there as I can open the original RAW file in Windows Picture viewer etc. but if I try to open it in PSP X4 it shows up as a grey box with an X and I get a dialogue saying "The specified file cannot be identified as a supported file type". If I try to open in my camera's software; Pentax Camera Utility (Silkypix) again it shows up as a broken image. how to recover this file? It seems that somehow the metadata attached to that file is broken, if I could strip that away it would probably be fine.
